[attr="class","spiral"]How likely is he to come out on top. The bulk of his party has been incapacitated and those that remain are battered at best. He has one or two Pokemon that are healthy but neither of them will prove a match for Moltres. His only chance is to use them as a distraction to heal his Tapu Fini up with some items in his bag. It's a small margin but maybe it'll be enough.

The referee is just as confounded as Silph, gasping in awe as he takes several steps back.

"Bronwen, I don't think I can handle this alone." He's not sure as to the status of Stormy's team but having her pair up might give them a fighting chance. They can't let this opportunity pass them by. Not when Fernando already let one bird slip from his grasp.

His Tapu Fini lacks the same reservation its trainer has. It doesn't attack, but water begins to pool around it. The BURN from earlier still stings, evident by the places on Tapu's body that remains submerged with small pockets of water.

Moltres tilts its head, curious, aggravating, eager to assume Fernando's hesitance as instigation to fight. Especially now that he glances to Bronwen.[break][break]

Stormy glances to him, then, and his request for her aid. She moves to the Tapu who seems intent to pursue the fight, much to Moltres' enjoyment. The bird spreads its wings, beak agape, preparing -- and Stormy stands between them then, panicked.[break][break]

"Wait--"[break][break]

But Moltres is here to battle, not to wait, not to accept any of them as allies. It tears the top of the tower asunder with ANCIENT POWER and Stormy latches onto Fernando's hand, pulling him out of harms way.[break][break]

"Moltres, stop! This isn't your fight. This was mine, and it's okay, please, relax!"[break][break]

Perhaps it is acting as her guardian, as she had. It had watched her face an impossible threat and came to step in, to protect her as she had protected it on the mountain. It had dived into the vortex of water as Stormy had the volcano.

[attr="class","spiral"]Being able to prepare an attack ahead of time is the only measure left to protect them from the Moltres' might. The foundation of their battlefield may quake as its torn apart but the Tapu Fini does not falter. Geysers of water expel the ANCIENT POWER astray, displacing most of them with an impact that causes boulders to rain from the sky. Not all of them are beaten off path, several of them beating against shell that protects the Tapu's main body.

"Bronwen, what are you doing?"

It's not that Stormy had called out to it. It's what she said.

She holds onto Fernando's hand, protective. But her anxiety brings her body temperature up, her stress surrounding the situation. It doesn't occur to her that she might be hurting him, her desperation being her undoing.[break][break]

"Moltres!"[break][break]

This time, her words seem to resonate with the beast, and it hovers in front of her, expression neutral, unreadable. Stormy is shaking her head barring the bird from Fernando.[break][break]

"He is important to me, it's okay, I'm safe." [break][break]

The bird hesitates a moment longer, studying it's avatar's face. And then it leaves as quickly as it had come, and with it, Stormy's magnified power seems to relent just a little bit.

[attr="class","spiral"]The sudden heat from his hand burns at first. Well, it burns the whole time, but the most discomfort comes from the sudden spike. He never mentions it, much too preoccupied with the more pressing situation.

Watching her bate the beast back with mere words means more to him than any battle ever could. Her actions tell a story and the way the Legendary reactions reveals all that he needs to know. It doesn't take a genius to put one and one together. The moment it leaves their sight he pulls her in close, mere inches away.

"How long?" For the first time since they've landed, Fernando's regarded her with a harshness reminiscent of when she first came to Hoenn.

She manages to relax somewhat as the Moltres leaves. It is short-lived, however, because Fernando is pulling her closer. His intensity is overwhelming, as if the mans breath out through his nose is enough to bury her.[break][break]

"I-- a few months ago. Fernando--"[break][break]

Words are hard to find especially under his scrutiny. Her attention moves to his hand still clasped in hers and she moves to remove it suddenly, mortified.[break][break]

"Your hand, I'm sorry."

Fernando shakes his hand in place. There's minor burns across the length of his skin. Undoubtedly, some of them will blister as second-degree pains but that's nothing he can't handle or treat. That's not even a concern now. Not when the greatest heat of all is the Moltres that's just barely out of his grasp.

"It's my loss. I never accounted for 'that'."

He breaks away from her, turning his back, reaching for a Pokeball to recall his Tapu Fini.

Unceremoniously, Stormy is crowned the winner of the Mount Battle tournament. The referee approaches her, still shocked by the sudden turn of events, presenting her the prize: a polished MEGA STONE.

While Fernando always entertained the possibility of losing, expected it even considering the disadvantage he put himself, never could he have imagined this MIDSUMMER MADNESS.
