WHEN YOU ENTER THE FIRST FLOOR, a dojo student greets you. the tower is grand, smelling of incense and wood. sunlight seeps in through the paper paneling and windows high above. before you can leave the genkan, they politely remind you to take off your shoes and to place them in the cubbies to the right side.[break][break]

ahead, a gabite awaits the party, clawed feet stomping on the ground. the dojo student beats his chest, "WELCOME TO YOUR FIRST CHALLENGE! THIS DARMANITAN STATUE HAS BEEN EMPOWERED WITH THE ABILITY TO 'MEAN LOOK' YOUR POKEMON." he huffs, "CAN YOU OVERCOME THIS STATUE'S INTIMIDATING GLARE?"[break][break]

he guides you all onto the floor and waits for you all to pick your pokemon. a rotomi is stationed to the left, should you require it. as soon as you all summon your pokemon, the darmanitan's eyes activate. they are both painted with black swirls, and glow for a MEAN LOOK.[break][break][break]

Overwhelmed by the failure of their first attempt, Valerio—disguised as Jonathan Aquil—was already at the rotomi when the dojo student appeared again before the group. He was curiously silent among his group, acknowledging the discipline needed to imbibe when dealing with martial arts. After all, Valerio was a disciple himself in the ancient art of dragon slaying.

As the toddler finished himself from speaking, the man finally summoned Phantom, his galarian yamask, who was immune to this particular type of locking ability as a ghost-type.

Valerio was quiet but not so much. “Shall we get to the actual challenge now?”

Gavin re-enters the tower scowling, thoroughly unimpressed by their earlier failure. Blame and judgement are silently directed at the one deemed by him to be the guilty party, but he does not protest the idea of a second run.[break][break]

Upon hearing the prompt, the scientist pulls out his phone — and from the device, a Rotom emerges. It appears utterly unaffected by the mean look from Darmanitan; the GHOST-TYPE merely hovers in place.

Maladi's attempt to break through the Surf with Hyper Voice had failed miserably and Sebastian's team had been awarded failure, forced to endure an extra test it seemed. Arriving at the new room they would once again remove their shoes appropriately before facing their next challenge, seemingly avoiding the effects of the host Pokemon's Mean Look.

Usually his feline partners were his go to route, but this time he had opted to retrieve one of his newer caught Pokemon, a Golett.

Summoning the Ground-Ghost-Dual Type Pokemon Sebastian would then await for the Mean Look's failure due to Golett's secondary nature, leaving it to be immune to the chill instilling stare of the host's Pokemon.

Sighing aloud with relief Sebastian would then await the fourth of their party's reaction.

Where Gavin re-enters scowling, Emma is expressionless. Her disappointment or disgust, or both, with the failure from last time is evident - but she doesn't voice it in any way.[break][break]

Instead, she remains somewhat close to the blonde man as he reveals a Rotom from his phone. The creature sends a shiver down her spine but she follows his lead, releasing a Mimikyu. The Pokemon's unsettling appearance is enough to encourage Emma to look elsewhere. But it seems that everyone and their mother has decided to use a ghost-type this ground.[break][break]

It's unsettling and unnatural, ghost-types. She is eager to move onto the next round and forget all of this.

They are instructed to look at the Spoink, and Gavin does. He surveys it as a puzzle to be solved, retrieving his phone and tapping the screen as he holds it up to his Rotom.[break][break]

The ghost-type eagerly retreats to its technological paradise, and Gavin retrieves a pokeball from his belt. His Cradily sways as if under the influence of a breeze in the windless room. The eerie fossil Pokemon may have seemed a poor choice in dealing with an airborne foe, but Gavin is confident as he clears his throat.[break][break]

"SMACK DOWN."[break][break]

Cradily continues to sway as it tilts his head to fix its sinister golden gaze upon the Spoink. From somewhere within the darkness, a stone projectile is launched.

Returning his new Golett to the storage system once they moved onto the next room Sebastian would be quick then to call out Dooku his Litten as the group took on the appearance of their next challenge, a springy-pig and it's trainer.

A Spoink?

It didn't appear threatening, that was until it bounced up high into the air, a momentary invulnerable move no doubt. Or that was until his challenge partner Gavin used a Cradily to Smack Down the opposition, sending it crashing down to the ground once more.

Sebastian's shock however would not halt his own contribution.

Dooku use Double Kick! Hit em' while they're down!

In the next few moments Dooku would sprint forward before hurling his body at the Spoink, turning his body around to throw the first blow of it's Double Kick, landing back upon the ground only to spin in place to repeat the kick a second time. From there Dooku would jump back toward it's trainer, it's job already done. Or seemingly so.

The spoink was a poor choice for a ghost-type opponent—considering his yamask has evolved minutes upon entering the second floor, to Jonathan’s delight. It was unexpected, but he was glad he saw it in person. But now, he finally understood why the dojo trainer chose it as the piglet BOUNCED into the air with no attacks that could reach it.

Luckily, teamwork is the food that nourishes team rocket, and Gavin’s cradily easily pulled back the spoink with a SMACK DOWN.

“Thanks for that, honey.” Valerio winked at Cillian Quinn. ”Phantom, finish it.” A surge of dark energy appeared in-front it as the SHADOW BALL reached towards its enemy.

RUNERIGUS uses SHADOW BALL.

The Spoink bounces into the air and is effectively out of reach except for brief intervals. But it didn't touch the ground long enough to be attacked effectively - until Gavin's Pokemon slams it to the ground with a SMACK DOWN.[break][break]

With the Spoink now within reach, the other two advance on the pig Pokemon with aggression. A DOUBLE KICK and SHADOW BALL tear it asunder, and the woman's Mimikyu is quick to MIMIC the SHADOW BALL if only because it doesn't want to get closer to the Spoink. Ranged attacks, man.[break][break]

Emma, meanwhile, can't help but arch a brow as she glances at Gavin following Valerio's 'honey' comment. Was there something between these two she should know about?

Phantom proved to be the starplayer in Valerio’s team today, having been survived the first three floors on its own accord. As the dojo trainer on the third floor launched a GUILLOTINE from all its four pinsirs, the runerigus just yawned as one of the bug-type’s attempt passed through its ghostly body, being resistant to normal-type moves as a ghost-type pokémon. “Heh, Phantom says you can try harder than that.”

Meanwhile, Valerio returned to his quirky and playful demeanor, as it seemed his endearment with Gavin earned them a scowl from Emma Wolfe —at least that was what he felt. “I’m not trying to steal your boyfriend—if that’s what you’re thinking.” Valerio sounded more like teasing than being defensive. Have these two started dating already? He clearly does not have any idea.

Caught off-guard by the unexpected pet name, Emma need only glance at Gavin to recognize a shift in his expression — confusion, then a questioning look directed at Valerio himself. When Emma glances at him, the scientist merely shakes his head.[break][break]

Though the duo are certainly... involved, neither Gavin nor Emma has sought to place a label upon the ways in which their lives intertwined. Hearing Valerio refer to Gavin so casually as Emma's boyfriend is jarring, though not upsetting. The subtle glance he gives Emma is one of probing, trying to gauge her own reaction.[break][break]

"I'm not trying to be stolen," he says with a low chuckle, brushing it off as just how Valerio is.[break][break]

Directing his attention back to the task at hand, his poor Rotom is once again wrenched from its safe haven within his phone. It hums with electrical energy and the guillotine passes right through the GHOST-TYPE, harmless.

The next floor proves yet another opportunity for ghost-type Pokemon to shine, much to her chagrin. Her expression reads contorted and unimpressed as her group utilizes their previous selection again. Mimikyu remains on the field as well given it's typing.[break][break]

As such, the GUILLOTINE does not bother the Mimikyu at all.[break][break]

But apparently Emma's questioning look tossed to Gavin was caught by Valerio. The woman glances back to the man as he makes his comment. His blatant use of the term 'boyfriend' is jarring. Labelling whatever they were was unexpected and she makes that clear in the pinched expression she makes.[break][break]

Gavin responds with a light-hearted chuckle but she does not share the sentiment, instead remaining silent and focused on the task at hand. [break][break]

If Gavin is looking to her to gauge a reaction, he'd be sorely disappointed.

Once more the Team Rocket crew had succeeded.

Are we going to make it the whole way this time....Heh, I feel so ashamed....

The blond Rocketeer would think to himself, Sebastian then following the gang to the next floor.

There they'd be pressed by a new challenge, yet with a similar answer to the opposition. Sebastian discovered this at the sight of all of his teammates calling upon Ghost-Types once more. As such Sebastian would return Dooku to their Poke Ball, then calling on Golett the Ground and Ghost-Type as an ally. To this end when the Bug-Type Pinsir attacked with it's Guillotine move it'd prove ineffective against the ghoulish Pokemon who stood unmoving, undaunted.

Success had been found for this challenge as well which filled Sebastian's mind with relief, yet again.
