"That just means the competition's real close in skill, ya know?" Totally nothing to do with random dice rolls or anything of the sort, no sir.

"But well, ya ain't wrong." They didn't get to switch their pokemon around all that much, so if the match up proved particularly unfortunate, there was usually nothing to do.

Though to be fair, he had bore witness to plenty of upsets so far... usually on the wrong end of them.

"Well then... shall we entertain, if nothing else?" He asked cheerfully, before sweeping his arm dramatically. "Kama, begin!"

The Scyther nodded at Lucario, her opponent, before launching forward, rushing towards the wolfen fighter before lunging at him with quick blows.

"Oi, teach! Ripper! How've ya been?!" Doug greeted the other man chipperly, raising a hand in the air and waving.

Their paths didn't cross nearly as often as he wished they did, so he was glad to see Thomas at the tourney! Specially if he was running about with Ripper!

"'ey Kama, go say hi!" He said, clapping his Scyther's back spiritedly.

She stumbled forward at that, eyes briefly widening. Still, she nodded Ripper's way— about as respectful as the usually fiery Scyther ever got.

He didn't dislike it at all.

Kama needn't anymore. She had seen her opponent's response before and had already decided she was going 100% from the word go.

Launching forward, Kama rushed the massive bear fearlessly, lunging at him.

The Vacuum wave was supposed to keep the opponent at bay— make them weary of advancing.

Syah said fuck that and charged right through it, making Kama released a rather undignified sqwack as a dragon hammer hammered her chest in, sending her tumbling about the arena to eat dirt.

Planting her scythes firmly onto the soil beneath her, Kama forced herself back onto her feet, stumbling briefly before clamping down her teeth and roaring angrily, craning her spine back as she did.

Elevated Z-energies registered upon the stadium's machinery as a crimson aura enveloped her scythes, her arms reeling far back before swinging forth.

A storm was thrown at Syah, the rushing gales upheaving nearby flora.

There was no humility to be found in this neck of the woods.

Speaking of humility, though— Kama found herself, indeed, swatted like a bug by the towering meowth, yelping as she flew through the air from the sheer force.

Her wings spread wide in response, a growl leaving her throat as she attempted to rush the Meowth's face instead, seemingly deciding that if she couldn't keep at bay, she would bring it too close to bear instead.

Kama's carapace still sizzled and steamed from the dazzling gleam, her eyes blinking rapidly to try and shake off the brief blindness inflicted upon her. She groans, sinking to one knee whilst panting.

Until she feels a familiar hand on her shoulder. The burning feelign wracking at her disappears within seconds after, her wounds knitting themselves together as Doug squats besides her, patting at her gently.

"Ya did great, Kama. The crowd's roaring for ya." He said, patting her in the back.

As Kama turned her newly brightened eyes to the roaring crowd, Doug turned towards Luka and Sugar, jogging up towards them.

"Ya two did great, too." He called out as he approached, smiling. "Ya've gotten a lot better since the HsT, pinkie. Ya must've been training a lot."

He looked over sugar, crouching down near the trainer and pokemon help.

"Want me to get her back on her feet?" He asked, raising a pink glowing hand.

"Yer too kind, ma'am." He said with a chuckle, nodding at her next words. "It's fun, ain't it? Though I'm just glad that Kama's actually been enjoying herself."

Despite her less than stellar record. Maybe she really was learning humility with all the losing going around.

As she laid her eyes on her next opponent however— one of the more ferocious dragons around — she suspected this would be one of the less 'fun' matches for her.

"Sure thing— let's find out." He said with a grin at Freya's challenge. "Kama— show 'em what we got!"

Whatever doubts Kama had appeared to vanished, her gaze growing razor sharp as she launched forward.

It was go time.

Pushing through worked out for the Eevee, her hammer coming down on the Scyther with severe force, sending skipping along the battlefield.

An experience Kama had become all too well acquainted with by this point in the tournament, if the way she managed to flip around mid skip to skid along her feet was anything to go by.

Not one she had come to grips with yet though, however, if the way her temper exploded next was anything to go by.

The Z-crystal around John's wrist came alive at that very moment, enveloping Kama in a powerful aura as phantom blades suddenly appeared and began dancing around her, growing to gargantuan size before launching into the sky and coming down to stab into her, sinking directly into her body.

As they did, her muscles bulged to grand size as she couched into a low stance...

Screw running around. If she was gonna get clobbered anyway—

She launched forward like a bullet, rushing towards the Eevee like lightning.

— then better to just take the risk and go all in.

As the storm clears, Kama is left panting, though not entirely careless. Too many losses in the tourney have taught to not put too much faith in raw power—

And such lessons prove correct. Her opponent surges from the dust like lightning, striking at her with dual slashes of dark, tearing into her chitin armor as she quickly attempts a dodge, taking a single step back as she swivels on her foot like a pivot. Wheezing as the dark bites into flesh, she grits her teeth and attempts to swing down the blunt of her scythe upon her opponent's head like a club, putting as much force and weight as she can.

Oh right, lam logan. "Man, flying fans are eating good this season."

He really had let the bug fandom down when he retired... No time to think about that.

"Yeah, let's! Kama! Get in there!" Kama didn't need to be told twice— reeling back her head, she released a positively ear-splitting roar before launching towards her opponent, zeroing into them quickly before suddenly leaping high in the air— and coming down towards them, attempting to goomba-stomp them into the ground.

"I'm John Sullivan— pleasure to meet'cha, mate!" He intoned cheerfully at the man across the field, doing a two fingered salute as his Scyther marched forth into the battlefield. "And that's Kama."

His scyther huffed, swinging her scythes through the air before lowering herself down into a ready stance.

"Hi! John Sullivan— nice to meet'cha!" Doug shouted cheerfully from the other end of the arena as his opponent arrived, raising an arm in salute before gesturing with it to his pokemon on the field.

The scyther had just finished her warm up stretches, her sharp gaze falling upon Biscotti as her trainer introduced her. "That's Kama! Don't mind the dirty look, she's a sweet."

The Scyther borderline snarled.

"See? Adorable."

So long in fact, he wasn't even a gym leader anymore.

"Lots has changed since then." He mused with a chuckle, scratching at his cheek before grinning her way. "Still... why don't you show me your growth?"

Having finished warming up, his Scyther stepped up to the plate, staring down her opponent. Go time.
