Sabine had always struggled with being perfectly polite. Where her mother had been an expert in putting on a face and acting every bit the regal woman she was, Sab had always sort of.. lacked in such self-control. That much is evident by the flat way she responds, unable to stop herself from giving the room one more disappointed once-over.[break][break]

"Yes, well, you're in luck! I have brought with me a few choice pieces I think might look nice. Come, follow me."[break][break]

The mention of being paid well was left unanswered or acknowledged - she was well aware that she'd be paid well. These pieces of hers were expensive, even if they were more or less the bottom of the barrel.[break][break]

Just outside the door, her boys have delicately unveiled three or four pieces of varying styles. Sabine glances at Lulu expectantly.[break][break]

Two beautiful, floor-length ballgowns are raised in either hand. She stands in front of a body-length mirror and slowly drapes first dress one and then the other over her chest. She's pouting, clearly not satisfied with either look.[break][break]

And then there is a familiar and yet unfamiliar voice at her door that startles her. The young woman jumps, a noise of alarm squeaking out of her as she turns on her heel. Arthur is met with a wide-eyed, blushing Sabine who blatantly looks him up and down. [break][break]

Gone was the child-like, shorter-than-her Artie and in his place was a just-hit-puberty Arthur. He was still a kid, but he was now a few inches taller than she was and significantly more mature.[break][break]

"Artie?"[break][break]

Excitement bubbles up in her chest and she tosses the two dresses off to the side, draped clumsily over the back of a chair. She darts for the boy, throwing her arms around him unabashed, overwhelmed.[break][break]

"You're so tall and handsome. What happened, how have you been?"[break][break]

There is an aggressive note of satisfaction crawling across her face when he inches closer. All it had taken was for her to decrease the distance between them just so, and he had decreased it even further. It felt like an advanced staring contest, neither one of them willing to blink.[break][break]

And the man's crossed arms crossed are blocking her from winning.[break][break]

Sabine is subtle and sneaky, shifting her weight just so until her perfectly manicured nails are tiptoeing up his arm. Her other hand moves to unwrap the furs draped over her shoulders. Her eyebrow raises and she tilts her head to watch him. It is an invitation, and she's made the first connection.[break][break]

"Mmm.. I am quite comfortable, actually. You, however.."[break][break]

When Lulu had dropped her new address wth a request to meet up, Sabine had at first been intrigued - maybe even nosy. But the moment she'd had someone punch in the address online to get a look at what it was she almost left the woman on read.[break][break]

"Ew, an apartment? Who does she think I am, a charity worker? There's no beautifying an apartment complex, it's pointless and a waste of my time."[break][break]

And yet she showed up anyway. Perhaps Remiel Calcifet's attempts to educate her on 'being kind to those below you' was working. Or maybe Sabine had ulterior motives. Or maybe she was just fucking lonely. Yeah, that sounded right. [break][break]

Turns out being an uppity, royal pain in the ass didn't get you far in a region sandswept with war and fear. No one cared if you were the princess of Hammerlocke or the gum stuck to the bottom of a strippers heel. Chances are you might get eaten by a Megalopolan anyway.[break][break]

"Set them down gently, you half-wit moron."[break][break]

Sabine pinches her thumb and forefinger against her temples, applying enough pressure to encourage someone to pass out. With a deep, exasperated and overly dramatic groan, she watches as her moving boys set the various painting choices down in the hallway. She had chosen several different styles, though none of them she was particularly fond of.[break][break]

Which is why she brought them, because she didn't want them.[break][break]

"Lulu, love?"[break][break]

She enters without knocking, strolling into the apartment as if it were her own. Her nose is crinkled in distaste as she observes the empty walls and the lack of decoration. It did not help the atmosphere at all. And.. what was that smell?[break][break]

"It's.. charming!"[break][break]

She smiles, strained.[break][break]

Laughter was often contagious, and yet Sabine's expression does not budge. The taste of the wine remains a reminder on her lips and proves to be a distraction from the man's guffaw. If she had struck a nerve, she does not flinch to reflect her pride. [break][break]

"Now you're getting it."[break][break]

She's always right.[break][break]

Her eyes follow his movement, placing his purchased furs on another passerby. They sheepishly mutter their thanks, dipping their head at the man's unexpected kindness. She frowns, unsurprised and yet still disappointed by his selfless act. She couldn't decide whether he was being charitable to impress her, or because he truly was a kind and giving man.[break][break]

It causes her to study him closer, although that becomes exceedingly easier to do now that he has more brazenly exposed himself. Not even she can hide the glint of interest reflected in her emerald gaze, her attention lingering on his exposed arms and the way his shirt pulls across his collarbones.[break][break]

And she is not oblivious to the goosebumps that spread across his skin, nor the breeze that makes even herself shiver. His attention remains wholly on herself, inflating her already self-absorbed ego. It encourages her to be bold, to step closer to him so that her own furs brush his skin.[break][break]

"What good is it indeed.."[break][break]

There is a note of seduction in the way her voice lowers into a chuckle - a surprising note revealing that she is, in fact, capable of being amused. Sabine's eyes trace the shape of his jaw and the curve of his lips, brazen in their sweep. Her lips curve into a deliberate smirk, temptation written like a secret between the lines.[break][break]

"Mother? When will Artie be arriving? Mother, mother?"[break][break]

Sabine tugs on the sleeve of Lady Calcifet's dress. The incessant nagging prompts the woman to pull away from the child sharply, her brows furrowed in irritation.[break][break]

"That is quite enough, Sabine. 'Arthur' will arrive when he arrives. This nagging and whining is beneath you. Run along now and get changed, you look a mess."[break][break]

The princess pouts, glancing down at her perfectly normal outfit. She was sure that this had been a dress hand-picked only last week by her mother for her to wear. Now, however, it seemed the woman had changed her mind. Or perhaps she was just being mean.[break][break]

Regardless, Sabine relieves the Queen of her presence in favour of seeking out her changing room. Her mother's disappointment is fleeting this time given the excitement surrounding the Vanderbilt's return to the Calcifet estate. Mother and father were throwing an extravagant ball for Remiel's birthday a week in advance and the Vanderbilt's had been invited to attend.[break][break]

It had been well over a year since she had last seen Arthur, and her heart beat just a little bit faster at the prospect of seeing him. She could just picture his adorable, chubby cheeks and wide eyes staring up at her in admiration. [break][break]

Sabine stares at him, evidently confused and annoyed all at the same time. His compliment packed a punch, and she wasn't sure what to make of it. It quite literally leaves her speechless and a little more agitated and bewildered. [break][break]

"If it isn't quality, then I'm not interested."[break][break]

However, while the woman makes no attempt to take the offered wineskin, she is rattled by the way he pulls it back to take a second sip. She hadn't been interested in the first place due to the evident lack of quality she could only assume would be the case. It was a faire, after all, offering what commoners would consider 'outrageous prices' that were pennies compared to actual, worthwhile substance. But he had also already dirtied the mouth of the wineskin with his lips.[break][break]

Green eyes rise abruptly to meet his at the mention of his 'former' prince hood. She scoffs, unabashed in her criticism and skepticism.[break][break]

"Kanto has no Crown, let alone an island as barren as Cinnabar."[break][break]

The man once again offers the wineskin, and her slow blink and maintained look between disgust and disappointment is what he's met with.[break][break]

"Ugh."[break][break]

Sabine takes the wine skin from him despite her previous statements and intentions, pressing it to her lips. As suspected, it is a cheap and unfulfilling taste, and one that she swallows with a scowl. [break][break]

"All night?"[break][break]

The dismay in her voice is painful and she stares ahead at the onslaught of rain. It's flattened the grass and made the pavement slick. She cannot see anyone outside, not even a single umbrella. It makes her shudder, the sudden drop in temperature as a result of the rain definitely not helping.[break][break]

And to hear the taxi driver reject the suggestion to bring them closer only added to her dread. She wraps her arms around herself, goosebumps rising as a result. Sabine's attention quickly snaps, however, to her companion who at present appears to be stripping in front of her. She opens her mouth to object, confused.[break][break]

"What in the world are you--"[break][break]

The woman's eyes linger briefly on the man's now thinly covered physique as he offers her his jacket. It is already warm as a result of him having been wearing it, and she drapes it over her shoulders. Before she realizes, however, the man is bidding her adieu and charging out of the cab and into the rain. It very nearly soaks him the second he steps outside, every footfall splashing up water. She, in her heels and expensive attire would be a train wreck out there.[break][break]

But she takes a deep breath and flips the jacket over her head to cover her hair as best she can. It had taken her hours to get it to sit just right.[break][break]

"Ugh!"[break][break]

With a dramatic, noisy whine, Sabine jumps out into the storm as well, the wind and rain throwing her around as she attempts to move faster than a walk. Her heels click against the wet pavement as she attempts to catch up with Zac. Her teeth are chattering.[break][break]

She appears unimpressed, looking the blue-haired young man up and down with a note of disdain. In fact, she even looks over the man's shoulder with a crinkled nose, as if looking for someone else.[break][break]

"I thought they were sending nearly the whole cavalry. Don't tell me you're it?"[break][break]

And, while she definitely did want to get the hell out of here and off of this mountain, the fact that the search and rescue squad consisted of exactly one person was discouraging. That, and no one had come to retrieve her, personally, so she was stuck. [break][break]

Something warm and soft pushes its way under her arm, capturing her hand. The woman glances down to find her golden Pyroar, his hair mane a comfort in the cold. [break][break]

"And how am I supposed to depart, exactly? You didn't exactly come with a helicopter."[break][break]

She groans, a noise between a tantrum and a sigh. The Pyroar rumbles, shaking his head and staring down the young man. [break][break]

The look on Sabine's face is picture-worthy. She glances at Remiel with a look of horror and disgust at the way the word 'princess' drips from the woman's mouth like something foul. She is appalled and at a loss for words for perhaps the first time in forever. In fact, she gasps as if out of breath.[break][break]

And rather than defend her, Remiel chooses to appease the woman and disregard his sister entirely. The princess slow-blinks, a blush rising in her cheeks at her outrage and humiliation.[break][break]

Her tears had been crocodilian at first, but the longer he turned away from her, the stiffer his shoulders became and the deeper he dug his heel, the more her weeping became real. The woman's outburst hadn't entirely been out of selfish desire to make him feel guilt, at least not now. Sabine's insecurities were bubbling to the surface, overflowing in the face-- or rather, at the back of-- Remiel. [break][break]

But she doesn't have the strength in her voice to continue, especially not when she sees his dark eyes dart away from her. She is decidedly upset, perhaps even disgruntled by the man's mockery. As flattering as it might be to be regarded properly, this man was anything but honest in his word-choice. 'Your grace' fell quite flat from the lips of a man who couldn't properly bow in the face of actual royalty. It made her wonder if he was even aware of who she was.[break][break]

That, and he had burst into a fit of laughter that she can only assume is a result of lack of respect and humility. It only spurs her angry blush and she tilts her chin away from him haughtily.[break][break]

"I am glad you are so amused, because I am most certainly not."[break][break]

Sabine's attention shifts back to him through a narrowed side-eye, disgust crinkling the bridge of her nose and displacing her mess of freckles. Even still, somehow she made such an ugly gesture look good. With the back of her hand intricately decorated with delicate gold and silver jewelry, she sweeps her dark hair over her shoulder and sniffs.[break][break]

"If they cannot afford quality furs, then they do not deserve them at all. What is the point of making cheap furs lacking in skill and craftsmanship? If it isn't worth a fortune, why bother?"[break][break]

The man's devilish grin is not missed, and it actually proves to garner her attention just a little bit more. She cannot deny his boldness despite her sharp tongue and lack of common friendliness. That, and there is something distinctly familiar about him that she is trying to place. [break][break]

"Ah. Kantonian."[break][break]

He assumes correctly and she watches him, the slightest bit insulted that he had merely picked her out as 'Galarian' and not by her clear family background.[break][break]

"I am Sabine Calcifet, princess of Hammerlocke."[break][break]
