Looking away proved a bad idea. The Portal did nothing, offered nothing, but the threat in front of her offered plenty, plenty of danger.

Their numbers were many, and so while Aggron was occupied, some of them made the way behind it and tried to attack Elinor.

They should not have done that. The sight of its trainer in danger and the bond they shared fueled it on. Sent it into a rage which it announced with a roar so powerful that the decibels of the previous one seemed like nothing.

A SHADOW CLAW here and an IRON HEAD there dug it through the waves of weaklings until it was by Elinor’s side once more, quickly grabbing and throwing the Pokémon who dared to touch her away with such force that a single trip to the PokéCenter wouldn't be enough.

Josh immediately offered Elinor the Beedrill, perhaps eagerly to show that he wanted to better himself, or mayhaps thinking that the cooperation would lessen the sentence.

Whatever the case may be, she took the ball. And allowed the meeting to reach its natural end from there, as Josh, thankfully, had nothing to add.

“No, thank you, for not making this harder than it needs to be.”

She appreciated that.

Still once Josh had left the room, she leaned back, eyes gazing upon the spherical capture device as she held it in her hand.

A sense of frustration, anger, disappointment grew in her.

Was all her work and effort in trying to improve the League truly meant to be for nothing? Had Amor Rose’s words been true. Was the League truly just one big poisoned chalice intent on killing everyone with an ounce of good intentions.

She had made sure her schedule had not been busy.

But all her efforts had almost been in vain because of her secretary trying to do a quick booking because of the pressure from some lobbying multi-billionaire trying to get another tax exemption.

By now Elinor was surprised at how many of those lived in Hoenn, it almost made her consider putting in an extra 100% sales tax, just to hit them, and everyone else, a little bit. But no, she couldn’t punish her people like that.

And so after averting that crysis. She did a quick pit stop at her home to change into something more relaxed, some might even call it punkish, a long sleeved white shirt with a black short sleeved hoodie on top, and some nice jeans.

Hopefully the stark contrast to her usual attire would save her the searching gaze of the public.

And so she made her way to Route 117, where she was meant to meet with dear ol Cousin Lars. Only five minutes late this time! Improvements.

Short as her schedule today might’ve been, when she approached Lars, it was still clear that she was tired. “Hi Lars.” She eyed that second cup in his hand with a hunger befitting someone who spent hours at the office.

LOCATION: Route 117

Elinor neared the place where Isaac was hiding.

Too weary to see anything but a place where she could rest. She stumbled upon the tents, pulling the cloth apart to see if anyone already occupied them.

But she saw nothing, not even the signs of an abandoned operation. She was too tired for such details.

But even though fatigue placed a heavy blanket over her eye for details. She wasn’t incompetent enough to think that she didn’t need a look out. And so she released a Pokémon from one of her Pokéballs.

The purplish flames of a Hisuian Typhlosion danced around its neck as it began to look around.

“Ty, I will be taking a rest. Let me know if anything happens.” And so she ducked into the left-behind tent.

Typhlosion nodded in acknowledgement and began to stand guard, or it would have had a peculiar smell not caught its nose. Its eyes went into predatory mode as it gazed into the flow of life energy around him.

Something odd was happening near the cliff wall. He walked closer, the smell of another ghost type became clearer, as did the radiating life energy of something inside the rocks.

It went down on all fours, growling angrily at the wall as the flames shot up around its neck in a display of aggression.

Lars’s reaction took her by surprise. The look he sent her made her feel bad, bad in a way she hadn’t felt in ages, yet in an instant the familiar sensation returned. Disappointment. She had disappointed him.

Her gaze fell to the ground. “Sorry… It was just a dumb joke…” She should’ve known better. For a moment she felt like a kid again. But then luckily the conversation changed.

“Yeah let’s get out of here before they decide they want the rest of the cave as well…” Her voice still glum after the brief return to her childhood.

And with that Elinor would begin to make her way out of the Shoal Cave.

His tale was riveting. She had never heard the name Senri before, but perhaps looking into them would provide yet another brick in the puzzle of what makes an avatar and how to emulate it to tempt Legendaries to her side.

“You, rank and file Idiota?” She tried to mimic his accent. “I can’t even imagine that.” She mused.

“...Do you know how they died?” Elinor had to ask. Her gaze went toward their destination. They would be there real soon. Perhaps they would conveniently reach the summit once Lars’s tale had ended?

“Really?” She asked with mild surprise as she made a mental note of looking into that early. If the League could catch it and force it to reproduce, they’d surely have a veritable army of legendary Pokémon on their side.

Anyhow, Lars continued his grumbling.

“That could definitely have gone better. But knowing that they are alive was well worth the risk.” Elinor looked thoughtful.

“Maybe we could try to appease it with gifts?” Elinor suggests.

“But what would we give it…” She mumbled. “Food, prayers… human sacrifices?” Of course the latter was said in jest, but she did shoot a glance toward Lars to see his reaction.

Elinor was traversing the pink swirling mist. Steadily but slowly.

A mechanical sounding roar soon followed by the distinct scream of a woman alerted her to the presence of someone within the mist, and the fact they were in danger.

A sense of dread shot through her.

Yet, she hesitated with jumping headlong into dangers within this mist. A feeling of Paranoia, perhaps caused by the realm or perhaps from herself told her that it was a trap.

But even if it was, she had to do something.

And so after a moment of pondering Elinor dived into the pink swirly mist intent on offering the person help.

She knew she was in danger. She could feel the sensation of eyes upon her as she stumbled through the outskirts, her prior battle having come to an end.

Right hand clung to the mark on her left arm left behind by a wild Nihiligo she had stumbled upon on the way here.

Who would have thought Ultra Beasts would stick around in a warzone.

She knew about Nihilego poisoning, she knew how it could affect people. She kept reminding herself that the constant sensation of paranoia she was currently feeling was all due to that. It was the poison’s doing, not Ultra Deep Sea itself.

Why was she even thinking about that right now? She decided to chalk it all up to fatigue for now.

Speaking of fatigue.

She could use a rest right now. And in the distance she saw what seemed like tents or hills? Honestly from this distance she wasn’t even sure.

The two attacks collided, causing an explosion. Elinor dodged out of the way of debris shooting everywhere, though she still felt some of it hitting her, but thankfully her protective gear did its job.

Elinor lost sight of the Rockets and her cousin in her attempt to protect herself. When next she saw a Rocket, it was Jayden charging at her, knife in hand.

Parry it like they taught you at the self-defense classes. She reminded herself. But something tugged at her mind, a fear that she might fail to do so and Jayden would gain the upper hand.

No, she was supposed to run.

Indecisiveness struck Elinor, forcing Aggron to move on her behalf. With claws coated with shadowy power Aggron would try to intercept Jayden’s approach, with the intention of removing Jayden’s head from his shoulders.

Elinor’s ears perked as Josh called out. She hastily moved over by his side to see what all the commotion was about.

She looked at the screen in surprise. She had never quite seen Pokémon like that. But she had heard communications about new species popping out of the Interdream Mist.

But alas they wouldn’t get much time to watch the videofeed. The sound of shattering Glass set Elinor off.

She dived down, taking as much cover as she could. She watched how Josh summoned fighters, one of them even looked like a peculiar Salamence.

Anyhow, she couldn’t be hiding. She waited for a brief interim between Bullet Seed salvoes before she threw three Pokéball’s out one of the broken windows.

Two Steelix and a Hisuian Typhlosion took to the field.

“Lix, Steel, protect the parameter. We have to defend this exit.” She gestured for the portal.

The two large steel serpents immediately went to work raising STONE EDGES as makeshift walls around the portal.

“Ty, join Josh on the field of battle.”

The Hisuian Typhlosion nodded and threw itself into the fray.

The Battles were taking a toll on her. She was tired, vision started to blur. Protective gear torn and tattered as it had done its job throughout her many encounters.

She had to take a break. Luckily an abandoned Outpost in the Ultra Deep Sea afforded her just the place to do so.

Though she approached cautiously. The place wasn’t on any of the League maps, so it had to be Rocket. But as far as she could tell. There was no sign of activity.

Still, she held a Pokéball in her hand just in case.

Hitting hard, hitting fast, and taking all the prisoners. That’s what Elinor was doing after her little Cargo run.

And she had found her next victims. A small group of what seemed to be a trainer and their Pokémon, she knew they weren’t members of the League, there weren’t supposed to be any in this particular area. Anyhow, she figured she could take them, with the pink InterDream Mist offering some cover for a moment.

And so, she threw a Pokeball into the air and threw caution to the wind alongside it. Her protective gear would have to hold.

A Sceptile appeared, and Elinor quickly gave her command.

“Surround them with a Frenzy Plant.”

The Sceptile quickly slammed its hand onto the ground, and from it powerful vines quickly spread through the ground toward the unfortunate victim.
