Some small part of her wanted to be snarky, to edge Josh on and test how truthful he was about his desire. But doing so would not be productive. It would be self indulgent and she couldn’t be that right now.

And so she listened. A small twitch in her eye as Josh mentioned the PR disaster it would be if this got out. Though she felt like he didn’t fully understand how much worse it would be if the League tried to cover it up.

But that was why she sat in this chair and he in the other.

Still. His desire to better himself was a start.

“Nor can we afford to have the people say that we protect criminals just because of the titles they carry.” She retorted for a moment.

Elinor looked toward her Chatot. It looked back at her, giving her a beaky-smile in response.

She sighed. “But I will not have it said that effort isn’t rewarded.” She allowed her gaze to meet Josh’s. “I am sure you are aware that within the Council I am not the one to oversee accountability.” Another thought went to PENELOPE LIVY. “I will do what I can to keep the punishment she decides on as lenient as possible.”

“But this will affect any future plans for promotions, as well as requiring of you an undetermined amount of community service, and we will have to look into that aggressive Beedrill of yours for rehabilitation.”

She paused. “I am sure there will be more. But these are the immediate things I foresee.”

“Is there anything else you would like to add?” She prayed there would not be.

Elinor was quiet. Seething, stewing in her own anger. She wanted to pull him down, strip him of titles and reputation. But that was the anger talking.

For all the intentions her anger held, she wasn’t blinded. She saw that Josh felt remorse, that he knew he had gone too far. But that didn’t change her feelings.

He had proven Eris Halla right. There was no bigger crime right now than that. He had proven that beneath the facade of well-wishing do-gooding The League was no better than Team Rocket.

It infuriated her. And for a brief split second, she pondered if her work would be easier if she was simply a part of Team Rocket. But she knew that doing so would be an easy out.

“This… This is quite serious.” Elinor began, her steel grip finally easing a bit. “And I have to be honest with you. I will have to consult with my fellow council members on this matter.” in particular PENELOPE LIVY, though she figured it wise not to name drop the accountability department right now.

“I am glad to hear that you want to make this right, but I do have to ask. To whom do you want to make this right?” She eyed Josh, with the tense anger that gripped her soul shining in her gaze, even as she was doing her best to keep it hidden.

Elinor was ready, itching even, for the fight to come. For a brief moment she realized she had grown all too accustomed to the theatrics of violence.

But then the Team Rocket dam broke, and any thoughts were pushed away. Small attacks hitting against the emerald green barrier that Aggron summoned. When he lowered it, much smaller opponents had been summoned to fight him.

She was this close to laughing. While it wasn’t Rattata and Zubats, they might as well have been, for Aggron towered above them.

They begin to rush at him. Only to be met with the full force of a DOUBLE-EDGE sending them flying back to their trainers.

A mighty roar escaped the Aggron. Team Rocket would have to do better.

Unafraid of what was in front of her, Elinor’s fear turned to her back. She sent a quick glimpse backward making sure Sea!Hoenn wasn’t about to make use of the distraction.

Communication had been the somewhat right choice. That much was clear as the scene played out.

Mind racing as she watched. By now it seemed this AI game knew information it was not supposed to have, so perhaps it knew something about the flame in Mt. Chimney.

For a moment she remembered back to that one time she had gone there with Laurence Anderson. Had they failed there because they hadn’t sacrificed something? Would it have worked had she pushed Lars into the Volcano.

She doubted it, but it seemed to be what the game suggested. But on the other hand, perhaps the flame he spoke off was looking for something more self-sacrificial, something willing to pay hte price out of their own pocket rather than stealing it from others.

And so with that in mind she pressed OPTION NR 3. Sacrificing herself.

Now that was indeed the question wasn’t it?

If she knew the answer to that, her job would be a whole lot easier. Either way, she had to ponder it for a moment, before pressing her answer.

This time she picked OPTION NR 2. If only because of the slight hope that this game and the future it seemed to predict might shed some more light on that.

Elinor was honestly only half here. Thoughts of council work clouded her mind, and so those who came to greet her were met only with a small nod and some words of empty platitudes before the meeting continued.

But then the meeting officially began. First order on the agenda. A new Head Ranger. While she was certain there were reasons for annalise henderson stepping down. She couldn’t help but feel worried. This was not the time to be having an unstable leadership.

Her eyes turned to Laurence Anderson knowing well enough that he wasn’t going anywhere, yet the fear was still there. At least Razz was a known face in the League and surely amongst the public.

Nevertheless she applauded the new appointment with a professionalism befitting her station. And rescind herself to silence as the questions began to flood. People questioned it of course, even Callan Young, which she found odd. He ought to have known better than to question that publicly? The new faces here would surely get the wrong impression of the Ranger Leadership if the idea of conflicting interests were planted in their head.

A mild sigh escaped her. But before she could even begin to address the whole lot, paxton concordas soon followed by Raziel Beckett dealt with the issue swiftly and deftly.

Elinor leaned back. Hopefully one crisis averted.

She looked at her wrist watch, pondering how many minutes would go by before the next crisis averted.

Well this was a surprising development, but something she probably ought to take note of for the future. But be that as it may she had options to pick and plenty to pick from.

In the end she figured a real Rocket person would try to reason their heinous actions with something like OPTION NR 2. Which would be the one she picked.

The tension in Elinor could be cut with a knife, so palpable was it. She was expecting some sort of abuse of power. Perhaps an arrest gone wrong, she had heard a thing or two about something happening in Mauville. But since she didn’t oversee all of the bloody region at once, she hadn’t heard the details.

But then he said a name.

Eris Halla

A dark shadow suddenly washed over Elinor. Her face tensed further into outright anger, though she did her best not to show it. It was damn near impossible for her. And if the face didn’t betray her, then the force with which her hands gripped each arm as they were crossed at her chest certainly did.

Even the Chatot present began looking at her with concern.

Only two words escaped her mouth, and even those came with a tension and anger to them that certainly wasn’t about to encourage Josh to do what she requested.

“Go on.”

She had fetched a snack. She’d been gone five minutes tops. And BAM she’d missed a piece of the scenario.

She wasn’t about to let that happen again. And so she quickly pressed the next option, not really reading what it was.
