Having no more to add, she leaned back for a brief moment's respite. The conversation continued, first to the sub, then something about Nautica.

It was only really when Lars spoke that she perked up from her respite.

A small shiver ran down her spine at the mention of another Ranger meeting. She hoped it would prove more fruitful than the last one. Alas she did not comment on that, choosing instead to reply to his request.

“I can make space in my schedule for a meeting, just give me a time and a place, Lars.”

LOCATION: Ever Grande City -> The Pokémon League

Elinor eased herself of the tension once Professor Reyes assured her that no disturbances had been done with her arrival.

At the question Elinor would give a nod and a simple. “Indeed I have.” Though all the sciency bits behind it all weren't exactly Elinor’s cup of tea, she still found some ease in seeing it with her own two eyes.

“Anything new?” She’d ask as she tried to recall the information shared at their last meeting.



MISSION: GET IN SYGNA
LOCATION: RUSTBORO CITY

“Sure, go ahead and steal it.” She chuckled.

But then she grew thoughtful. What did she need to improve on?

“Decisiveness. I suppose.” Elinor said. “Don’t get me wrong. I do my work and I would like to think that I do it well. But honestly, it feels more like I am just floating along with the stream, and not really making any waves of my own, if that makes sense.”

She looked to her drink and within moments she took a big sip of it.

LOCATION: SLATEPORT LOWER DISTRICT

Elinor looked upon Josh with sympathy. The Death of Raikou was clearly affecting him to a worrying degree, though any worries she might’ve had was kept well hidden behind a veil of professionalism.

“Ah yes, that.” She sounded solemn as she spoke. She took a quick moment to pull up Callan’s and Matias’s reports before reading through them one more time.

“Indeed, they do seem conflicting, don’t they?” Elinor mused. She found it odd that Matias hadn’t found the same flaws as Callan, and for a moment she pondered if that could be attributed to Matias as a person.

But that was neither here nor there.

“Rather than focusing on the conflicting opinions of the reports. I want to do something else. I want to focus on what they both have in common. They both rejected you.” She leaned back into her chair and folded her arms thoughtfully across her chest.

She knew what she was about to ask of him was cruel. But she would ask it nonetheless in the hope of some self reflection. “So, let’s try to see it from their perspective. If you were in their position, would you pass the Josh Devlin that went to these two interviews, and if not, why?”

Eagerness fought bravely to fill the Noivern, but it did well to contain it. Knowing that even the dullest of its claws could easily snap a string if it applied even a fraction too much power.

Drakloaks were naturally caring Pokémon. This she knew from experience with her own Dragapult. So it didn’t surprise her when Niky informed her of its naturally great temperament.

Alas such thoughts were cut short when a loud ping rang through the air. She quickly glanced toward the Noivern.

Noivern looked equally as shocked. It had been so careful. Luckily the gentle words of Niky soothed Noivern, and watching Niky switch the broken string was equally fascinating. Happy dragon sounds emerged as Niky finished the repair and began the tutoring once more.

MISSION: BOND-BRIDGE
LOCATION: Rustboro City

“Thank you!” Elinor proclaimed. For a moment she thought she heard surprise in his voice, but she was sure that wasn't right.

Still, the Mega Evolution combined with the Z-move was causing cracks in the frigid wall. This Elinor could see even though the cold was trying its darndest to steal her focus, her energy and even her life. Even with the protective barrier of all her warm Pokémon, the cold that permeated this place was getting to her.

THE stare that Lars gave her told her one thing, he was finally getting around to seeing things her way. There was only one way, and that was force. “Glad to see that you are getting serious.” She wasn’t proud and poke at his reluctance to use force, but a little jab was well deserved.

Meanwhile Aggron wasn’t relenting, keeping the Z-MOVE going for as long as it possibly could alongside its Mega form. The addition of the Mega-Metagross was welcome though.

LOCATION: SHOAL CAVE -> ARTICUNO'S LAIR

Jirachi was saddened. It had really tried its best, and thought it had worked.

“I could. But if it didn’t work with your wish, I doubt it would work with mine.” Elinor stated.

Jirachi looked even sadder.

“Oh, I didn’t mean it like that, Jirachi.” She tried to apologize, realizing how it might’ve sounded to the wishmaker.

Little did the two women know or perhaps notice that a car pulled up to the Mossdeep Space Center. The person inside quickly got out as if compelled by some mystical force and almost ran through the building before bursting out onto the roof area.

Elinor’s attention shot toward the sudden sound alongside Jirachi.

The man looked mildly bewildered as he looked around, holding a small plastic bag in his hand as he calmly stated. “Uhm… One Meatball Sandwich for an Andrea.” He looked toward the group almost pleadingly. “Please tell me one of you is Andrea.”


MISSION: VS JIRACHI
LOCATION: Mossdeep Space Center

A goofy grin on Elinor’s lips as Lars acknowledged her efforts. That felt nice.

But alas a simple Mega Evolution did not seem enough to break through. Only further angering the deity, to the point where Lars’s Icy Equine jumped in front to offer protection alongside her own Pokémon.

Meanwhile Aggron kept fighting, the sensation of frost biting into its steel skin hurting painfully. But, that would not stop it.

“Keep at it, Gron. You are doing good!” Elinor proclaimed! Though she wasn’t blind to Lars’s struggle protecting Aggron.

“Gron no holding back!” Elinor commanded.

The Aggron relented for a moment, jumping backward to get some distance. At first it might seem like it gave up. But far from it. It needed the distance to build up speed as it charged for the icy wall once more.

But when next it hit the wall, it was not a measly Iron Head that was used, but instead the phenomenal Z-move CORKSCREW CRASH that sent the Aggron drilling into the icy-barrier.

Elinor pondered the three choices, so intently that when she heard the loud bang at the door she almost jumped out of her seat.

“Minh, is that you?” She asked, hoping to hear the growling of her Illumina Bagon.

No reply.

She gulped, pushed the thought away and returned to the game. While B was an unnerving Choice, and C didn’t really do anything but relent a vague memory, A seemed so obvious that it had to be the pick.

In fact it was a bit too obvious.

And yet she pressed OPTION A nonetheless.

Elinor felt a light bit of surprise at Matias' rather un-minced wording.

“I am glad to hear that you are making the most of the freedom.” Elinor gave a small, mild snicker. “But I am surprised to hear that it's boring? Not enough challengers coming your way in between the waiting?”

With her attention turned to Matias, she did not notice either of the Pokémon in the background.

LOCATION: PETALBURG WOODS

Honestly, she didn’t know what to make of the scene in front of her. This was so clearly an attempt to garner the favor of the more spicy-side of social media. For what other reason would the AI set up such a scene.

Anyhow, choices needed to be made. And honestly, that Original Dio-something-or-other made a good point. And so she picked OPTION NR 1. The Original.

Hoenn made a collective choice. Honestly, it could’ve gone either way. Perhaps if looking from another angle she would’ve picked the same.

But alas the scene moved on and well. It grew rather spectacular as a surprise scene unfolded. The view of the unknown Legendary appeared clear as day as it attacked them in this scene.

And now she had to make a choice. She picked OPTION NR 2: ‘Protect her by covering her body with yours.’
