They do say that… Elinor thought but did not give words to the statement. She didn’t want to curse it further even if she was not one for superstition like that.

She felt his fingers running through her long hair, any kinks in there making way for his gentle touch. It comforted her in ways it perhaps shouldn’t. His words certainly helped as well, a promise of being careful, though she knew it was a hollow promise. Callan would do as he always did. If he did anything else, he would not be the Callan she loved.

“I know you do Callan. And I will be right there with you.” Elinor stated. “But I will still worry for your safety.” She mused.

Then Callan asked a rather difficult question. “Hmmmm…” Elinor thought about it for a moment. “That’s a difficult question to answer.” She paused looking out towards the sea. “Rather than looking out for any particular individual, I would rather advise you to remember who you are, your values, your roots, and what is important to you.” A Mischievous smile spread over Elinor’s lips as she turned her gaze to Callan.

“People don’t get these positions without being stubborn and willing to do whatever they must do to get there.” A small dig at Callan and her own personality types. But then her smile faded a little bit. She had been no exception, though she hoped Callan was the one exception to the rule. “So remember, if you let them, they will all use you for their own ends, for better or worse.”

She had not been paying attention to her Shadow, and neither had Bagon. In fact, she had been paying attention just about everywhere else but the pool table and her shadow. So when the cue ball went flying she found herself almost jumping to the side a surprised shriek emerged from her.

She quickly spotted the movement of the cue ball but didn’t stop there. She looked around. Is this place truly haunted or is it merely a ghost-type Pokémon? She thought, but then as she tilted her head and saw a shadow eerily shaped like her cackling with a sound.

Trying to not let fear catch it the Bagon’s Illumina pattern began to shine brightly, its light aimed in SPOTLIGHT at the Shadow.

“I will be with you in a minute!” Elinor replied as she watched the proceedings between shadow and spotlight unfold

Time to get up.

Elinor steeled her resolve as she ascended to her position upon the Steelix. Knowing the perilousness of the course she had for once decided to apply a safety harness so that she would not simply fall off at the first sharp turn that Steelix would take.

Safe atop the Steelix head she awaited the signal. Anticipation building up. She felt the body of her steel snake tensing, every possible muscle ready to fire off at a moment’s notice.

And then the signal sounded and along with everyone else the Steelix charged forward not caring for anyone in its path as it tried to accelerate. “Keep it steady, Steel. This race won’t be a sprint for long.” Or so she’d like to think. But she, in fact, knew they simply didn’t have much of a speed advantage so they had to rely on maneuverability and endurance, until the later laps.

And so they reached the first obstacle. With small hills, crests, and troughs it was definitely not a place with a lot of space in fact shallow turns were abundant. The Steelix did its best to maneuver through making sure to avoid squashing those around it while at the same time increasing speeds and reacting accordingly. Even just watching the attempt would be a veritable feast to see for any who deigned the Steel serpent’s attention.

It is finally happening, huh? Elinor thought, a quick gaze at her hand revealing her nervousness. It was shaking. She curled it into a fist hiding the nervousness. This was neither the time nor the place to be nervous. Civilians had been evacuated, all they had to do was defend the town and its secret prize.

Clad in her ranger Uniform, with the fancy Holo-Glasses given to them by Josh Dragomir. She stood alone by the entrance to the city. A lone Ranger ready to defend. By her side, a huge steel beast stood ready to fight. Ready to defend its trainer to the death if need be. But she knew she wasn’t alone. In the Hills and in the Town good men and women readied themselves.

Her eyes peered out into the unknown from where she had a feeling that Rocket would come. The strained voice of their dear commissioner rang through her communications device. While the promise of reinforcements was relieving, she hoped it didn’t come to that for it meant this would go bad.

With a press of a button, she opened the comms channel for all the League Personnel in Littleroot. “You heard her everyone. And let me remind you all, do not make the mistake of thinking Team Rocket will show you mercy, they chose this path of war.” She paused considering her words. She wanted everyone to understand and feel secure in their choice of being here. But perhaps the following words would not have that effect. “Whatever may come today, be it pain, misery, or even death. Let us stand together and with united voices tell Team Rocket, NO MORE!”

“And lastly. Let it be known that I am PROUD to stand here with you all!”

And with that, she ended her little speech hoping that she had somehow managed to bring everyone together in unity against the evil of Team Rocket, and perhaps even prepared them a little bit for the sacrifices that were sure to be asked of them.

She turned to her Aggron, though the following words were equally meant for the rest of her Pokémon. She placed a gentle warm hand upon the cold steel body and said. “Though I do not intend to die. Should you get the choice between mine and your own life, please pick your own.” She did not have a death wish, but she did not wish to carry the lives of more Pokémon on her shoulders, even if she knew she had to.

The report was given. Perhaps Elinor even got some closure in the process? A fair tradeoff surely.

Lars reminded her of the time they had spent, and how she probably should be somewhere else. What small chuckle she could muster was given as she replied. “Yeah, don’t worry about that.” She waved dismissively but knew where this was heading.

And so after a few more words, Lars bid her adieu, with a joked reminder to not be a stranger. She could do naught but return his words. “That goes for you too.”

Though she feared even if she had poured her pain out on him, he would not do the same, at least not to the same extent. But she hoped and prayed that she was wrong and that he would trust her enough to come to her for help in his time of need.

Either way they now both went their separate and very busy ways.

A lesson for next time, indeed. Elinor nodded as she reminded herself. She had to do better, be better, for one thing, was certain in Hoenn there’d always be a next time.

Lars’s reaction was not lost upon her. Though whether it was from pleasant or otherwise experience was not known to her. “Yeah, they were all too busy trying to deal with Necrozma to have time to fight amongst each other.” She replied.

Though the fact Lars expected them to fight amongst each other worried her. How many of those Legendary Pokémon belong to Team Rocket? The thought buried into her, sowing seeds of fear. She dared not voice the question. But the fear did urge her to expedite any plans she might have for finding more Legendary Pokémon to recruit to the League cause.

“Well, intelligence varies greatly. Some Pokémon have about as much intelligence as a brick wall, others are smarter than some people I’ve met.” Elinor replied. But then her attention turned to the Hisuian Typhlosion as its ears perked. Something was nearby.

“Go get it.” And of the predatory was. Charging in a random direction.

Meanwhile, Elinor’s turned her attention back to the girl who seemed to be caught up in trying to catch Starly. For a moment she considered intervening, but in the end, it seemed Miranda got the hang of it, she even threw the Pokéball.

Elinor began to applaud the girl for her efforts. “If that was your first attempt at capture, then you did really well! I’ve seen people do much worse!”

Meanwhile, in the distance, the sound of battle could be heard. The angry grunts of a Bewear that kept trying and failing to grab onto the Ghost type using its repertoire of Normal type moves.

The Hisuian had realized this and was now playing around, throwing the Bewear around as it tried to expend its weight as means of gaining an advantage though it simply could not. But soon the Hisuian Typhlosion grew bored, and yet another fiery pillar erupted from it burning the Bewear into unconsciousness. It then proceeded to drag it back to its trainer.

“Oh don’t say that. I am sure you would grow with the task.” Elinor reassured. Any Gym leader be they minor or major would have to. She would not accept the educational fate of Hoenn’s future trainers to feeble folk who would bend and break with the slightest pressure.

But tonight was meant to be an evening of merriment not work.

She smiled jovially at Cian. “Isn’t that exactly what a rat would say?” Of course, it was meant as a joke. “But big plans, hmmm. Well, personally I do plan to challenge all the gyms both Minor and Major, perhaps even the Elite Four and the Champion. Though I don’t know if I’d call that big plans.”

“Do you have any big plans?”

As always The League’s work was comprehensive. She would have to thank whoever authored the report, even though she was well aware that it was a multi-staff operation. Perhaps she could thank them with a Pizza party…

Moving on, the report made some more elaborated statements that Elinor had already pointed out in her prior observation. Though from reading these it seemed Josh decided that Trick Room would be the more pressing concern.

Elinor sighed. “While I have more than my fair share of slow and sturdy Pokémon I can’t boast of owning a Pokémon currently capable of using Trick Room to its fullest.” She stated. “While I am sure I could teach one of my Pokémon the move, it would take time to train them to make proper and good use of the effect of the move.”

She looked thoughtful. “The report mentions kyle lopez. While he is most definitely busy perhaps it would be worth inquiring if he has the time to offer you a few sparring matches.”

LOCATION: EVER GRANDE CITY -> THE POKÉMON LEAGUE HQ -> ELINOR'S OFFICE

The new presence of both Pokémon and AUTUMN ANDERSON did not seem to disturb the Pokémon already living there. To them, they were but new inhabitants, not meant to be given much thought save for perhaps an offering of playing.

Depending on how adventurous Autumn or her Pokémon would be. They might be able to find quite delicious evidence. Let’s start with what was sure to be the most salivating main dish. For who could withstand the temptation of scandalous rumors? Well, those would be found within the master bedroom, its occupants deep asleep would surely notice nothing.

But what would one find in there? Well for starters a huge boring bookshelf filled to the brim with books about not only Pokémon training but myths and fables from various regions. But surely that would not be interesting, even if by its side the wall had been plastered with what could only be described as an almost conspiratorial map of Legendary Pokémon sightings and locations. The only thing keeping that hidden was the door which covered it from glance views.

No, the unlocked laptop that stood on the desk would surely provide more sustenance. Were Autumn to make a few clicks, and close down the paused music player not only would she be met by the background of a rather revealing picture of Callan Young one of the founders of the now-famous band TERAVOLT, though no nudity save for the lack of a shirt. It would be obvious that this was not taken by a professional photographer. Were Autumn to have the audacity to check the messaging apps on the computer, well the spicy conversations and pictures would make their relationship fairly obvious.

But other than that tidbit the Apartment would be sparse in the way of scandalous offerings. For as Autumn might notice the Porygon-Z flew about at breakneck pace, doing chores, keeping everything pristine. If Autumn were to enter the living room at just the right time, she or one of her Pokémon might find the Porygon-Z busy collecting papers. It would then fly over to greet them once more offering help of any sort. Though it did not take great strides to hide the topic of the papers. It was mostly printed out legal mumbo jumbo, but words such as legal disownment, inheritance rights, and so on. What could it possibly mean?

What was Elinor doing while everyone was snooping on her personal belongings?

Well, she was currently standing in the slowest-moving elevator this side of Hoenn had ever seen. It halted at every floor, people coming and going. It was surprisingly crowded today, almost as if someone was trying to drag that one elevator scene out.

But at last, she finished the Elevator ride, reached her floor, and exited. Leisurely walking towards her door. With a quick well-trained movement did she retrieve her keys, and with a loud CLICK, the lock unlocked, or so it would normally have. But not today, for Porygon-Z had forgotten to lock it after Autumn’s arrival.

Weird… Elinor felt a sense of dread as she pulled the key out and opened the door. Body tense, ready to walk in on some evildoers. Porygon-Z always kept the door locked.
