Amor’s caveat made sense. She could not hold it against him to be cautious about his promises. She hoped only that in the future nothing so drastic as to push him away would happen.

Elinor listened. While the information he gave her was disheartening and yet it also raised questions. No radiation, not even otherworldly bacteria, of course, they could’ve all died. But still, she got the impression that Amor thought it was too clean.

But perhaps she could be wrong.

Either way, their meeting came to an end. The promise had been fulfilled, even if it was unsatisfying for Amor. Hopefully, The League had regained just a tiny bit of trust. “Of course, I will let you know if anything happens.” Though she doubted anything would. If only she could see into the future…

Braviary was growing weary. Its eyes were unfocused as the dark atmosphere sapped it of courage, or perhaps it merely wanted a break. It certainly didn’t want to admit to being scared. The Hisuian Braviary nudged its beak against Elinor and she calmly complied with its request.

As she placed the brave bird’s Pokéball back on her trainer belt, she retrieved another Pokémon. Perhaps this one would be of more help.

From the Pokéball, a generic-looking Rotom appeared. The sound of crackling electricity announced its presence as it looked around. “We are looking for anything suspicious, Tom, if you see, hear or even feel anything, let us know, okay?”

It saluted Elinor with an appendage of electricity and began to fly about.

Making a short mental note of the growing turbulence in the weather, Elinor would turn her attention towards Killian Decker. “Perhaps we ought to go find shelter?”

Right, right. It’s just a Pokémon.

Elinor reminded herself as the spotlight revealed a wild Sableye haunting the location. Now she felt silly. A sigh escaped her. Though as she looked down upon her Bagon and watched its proud smile, having conquered its fears. She felt sort of pleased about the whole ordeal.

Josh was quick to return and make sure they were both safe. She had no words for Josh’s comment. It was true after all. But perhaps announcing so right in front of the Sableye might not be the wisest.

She watched as the mischievous spirit allowed Josh to take the ball and place it.

“Solids.” Elinor would reply before taking a brief moment to take a shot, unfortunately revealing that at best she’d be a passing newbie pool player.

“Oh, you did?” Her attention moved from the pool game to Josh. “Well, let’s get going then.” And so she followed Josh to the revealed staircase, Bagon hurried right along with them.

A smile of understanding was sent in Josh’s direction as he tried to backpedal a bit. She understood what he meant and took no offense to it. “Perhaps. Though the battle complex has been rather busy lately. But I am sure we can find an arena.” Elinor mused.

Though the conversation moved on to Kyle. “Well, there is a reason why he is the Champion.” Despite one might not think so, Kyle did seem invested enough in his position to work as a goal for many budding trainers to reach. She might even be inclined to count herself among those. Though there was little more she could add. Josh had the right of it. All roads did lead to kyle lopez.

Meteno was brought back to the forefront of the conversation. “Oh, I will fight you for that badge.” A competitive grin appeared. “Though perhaps if we are to go all out for this rematch, then doing it in your Arena might be unwise.”

She knew well the power of destruction her Pokémon held. If they were allowed to go all out, well she’d have a hard time explaining that to Josh’s Gym Insurance.

The size of her plans did not matter. However, what Cian said did intrigue her. “I agree. Rustboro certainly deserves it.” She spoke. For a moment a glint in her eyes, perhaps an intent to help. Nah she couldn’t be meddling like that.

Much to her surprise, they were passing one Pokémon after the other. The first obstacle proved of little difficult.

Sure hope you’ve thought of something better, Josh! She thought with excitement as she pushed onwards atop her Steelix.

The Steel behemoth slithered toward the next obstacle indifferent to the presence of the other Pokémon. They would have to get off his way if they did not wish to be crushed. Too bad for the riders Elinor shared the same competitive spirit.

That’s also why there was but one thing to do when the jump appeared in front of them.

A ferocious toothy grin emerged on her lips. “Steel, straight on. We are taking that jump!”

I am sorry Josh… She thought, though she’d be lying if she was excited as well.

A loud roar of acknowledgment came from the Steelix as it charged forward building as much momentum as it could before sending itself flying over the ledge. Ready to land in full motion upon the rest of the track, even if it meant causing a fair bit of damage to it.

If only Callan could see just how much she worried about him. And to think she didn’t use to worry about anyone like that.

She reminded herself that Callan was a grown man. As long as he held onto his beliefs, then he would be alright. Besides, he tamed her after all, surely the council and the other Elite 4 would be no match for him.

“True, we will.” Their eyes met once more. She tried to ease some of the tension that had built within her. Eyes revealing this if Callan watched closely. For a moment she wondered if a joke would be appropriate, but before the words could leave her Callan continued.

She couldn’t help but send a curious glance in his direction. “Depends on what these ulterior motives are?” Some of the mischievous jesting had returned to her voice.

For a moment, she pinched the bridge of her nose perhaps a bit too roughly. She had been too blunt. The moment the words had left her mouth she had known Melody wouldn’t take them kindly.

But Elinor had nobody to blame but herself. Perhaps if she had gotten that extra shot of caffeine this might’ve gone differently. But no, instead she had pushed Melody away, kept her at arm’s length like everyone else.

Elinor kept quiet letting her emotions tighten in her chest as Melody kept speaking. Though before she was even allowed a moment to speak Melody had to go. She scrambled to get a “Goodbye Melody” in before the beep of an ended call announced itself.

She felt her fingers tighten around the phone case, threatening to crack. HOW DARED Melody have the audacity to lecture her about growing up rich? At this moment she didn’t know what irked her more the fact that she had inadvertently pushed Melody further away or the fact Melody clearly assumed her of poor origins. Whatever the answer may be Amor Rose would definitely have to repay her for the efforts she had to expend to keep his little slip-up under control.

With angry footfalls and an annoyed gaze did she leave the office.

Yep, that’s the reaction Elinor was expecting.

“I am glad to hear that the fate of your Concert Hall does not rely on money from strange benefactors. And I agree This won’t absolve him of his wrongdoings. But whether we deny it or not he already has the moral high ground, at least if you ask me. I am sure there are people that will disagree with me on that, and I understand if you are one of them. But the way I see it when people inevitably ask him if he has put in efforts to apologize, he can with honesty say that he has.”

Elinor paused for a moment. Her voice was a tired, long day at work, not enough coffee. Perhaps this was merely the opinion of a rich woman used to seeing the world through money. Money and influence were the bread and butter of the Anderson family after all, and one often bought the other.

“Whether it’s illegal for us to accept the money is… how do I say this… A grey area? Yeah, the money was donated through a charity, so technically he didn’t have anything to do with it. But it does lead back to him.”

Yeah, even she could hear how that sounded. She didn't enjoy talking law with this little caffeine in her blood.

“But being the main villain of a scathing news article in the HNN does not make someone a criminal, even if the story is true… Unless you’ve filed charges with the police since last we spoke then in the eyes of the law Amor is currently not a criminal.”

Elinor didn’t enjoy saying that. And she did not try to hide that from her voice. But she had to play by the law or she would be no better than the criminals. A stray thought crossed her mind, and before she could filter the words they were blurted out into the phone.

"He did make another sizeable donation to The League, though that money is meant for another purpose entirely...

Penelope’s straightforwardness was appreciated. With the conversation forced back on its track Elinor would stay silent for a moment.

She felt quiet vibrations from her pocket. With a small movement, she retrieved her phone and had a quick look, before pocketing it again and returning her gaze to her counterpart and her entourage.

Just in time to hear the replies given to PENELOPE LIVY, kyle lopez, and illeana reyes respectively.

Sea!Elinor spoke of broken foundations as a metaphor for trust, plagues, and pandemonium spread by primal crystals. Though for all the woes sea!Hoenn was suffering it seemed none too interested in trying to stop all this misfortune.

Tch…

She was starting to understand why Matias seemed so disinclined in matters of diplomacy with these members of the sea-Hoenn kingdom. But at the same time, now knowing that there was a legendary Pokémon nearby they had to tread carefully.

I wonder which it is. Curiosity mingled with a foreboding.

“Surely you can’t fault a person of science for indulging their curiosity?” She took a moment to breathe. “I will be the first to admit there are details about the Primal Crystals that I do not know. But what I do know and understand closely is trust.” Stern eyes looked at her counterpart.

“Yes, our hands are not clean but the same can be said for yours. We can stand and bicker here for eternity on who is in the wrong and neither side will budge on the matter. But it does not have to be that way. You speak of a broken foundation, but foundations can be remade.” Perhaps she was starting to become frustrated, though she did her best to not let her voice tell.

“I implore you to speak plainly. Do the people of Sea-Hoenn wish to keep this cycle of conflict and distrust going or is there a glimmer of hope for a peaceful future between our kingdoms?” An epiphany hit her, they stood before diplomats of Sea-Hoenn and only Sea-Hoenn… But what of Sea-Kanto, Sea-Sinnoh, Sea-Johto, and even Sea-Galar and so on? A chill ran down her spine. How will they react if Meteno eradicated sea-Hoenn?

She pushed the thought away, it was better not to wonder about that right now.
