Searing flames fly across the battlefield, and small, floating noses of rock and steel attempt to intercept, the concussive force behind the blazing flames sending them hurtling out of the way.

Glimmering stone rises sharply from the earth and smashes against the flames as the Probopass slowly skirts around the oncoming flames, the blazing hot fire licking at its sides and leaving searing marks across its rocky surface.

A rock and steel alloy had made it a tough nut to crack— but not as invulnerable to flames as it would've otherwise been

Vs Mauville Gym

"It goes well. Thank you." He replied from his end of the arena, polite as ever. "I hear the same can be said of Mauville."

As the Mauville gym leader explained the rules, Gwyar's pokemon performed little rituals. His Archaludon did old woman stretches, her body lengthening into a vaguely bridge-like shape, whilst his Runerigus assembled and disassembled herself repeatedly.

As the explanation drew to a close, the both pokemon snapped to attention.

As Josh finished with a little taunt, Gwyar simply and promptly said:

"Begin."

Still in her fully lengthened state, the archaludon did not bother to change as her many arches compressed together sharply, before popping apart with a booming crack akin to a shotgun blast.

The Metallic Sound cut through the large arena at, naturally, the speed of sound, painful like nails on a chalkboard as the Runerigus leapt over the steel dragon, hovering above her, and spread out its many dark limbs apart, the markings etched unto the stone glowing a dark violet as a large Shadow Ball blasted towards the Rapidash.

"Just curious." He hums as he approaches the large fruit, shrugging his shoulders before raising his sword to cut into the large thing.

"Will it taste of anything?" He wonders outloud as he plucks the huge piece with the tip of his sword, raising it to his lips and biting into it.

...

...

His mind seems to clear briefly as he recalls the student ID belonging to declan walsh he had found. Student IDs... were connected to university's large databases, which were often double and triple backed up in clouds and other locations across the world.

He rubbed at his chin.

It'd be a long shot, but...

Perhaps he should reach out to Navy and see if he knew anyone knowledgeable about hacking...

"That was... enlightening." He mused outloud, staring upwards for a moment before glancing back down at the fruit.

"Indeed." He said simply, eyes on the harbor far ahead.

Though, as the world began to dissolve around them, he somehow doubted they'd make it there.

"Another scenario complete." He hummed.

He had performed many of these. There was little left for him to learn within them. It seemed he'd be able to stop doing them soon.

Secrets of the Sword, vol. 2; ft. Eduardo Hisakawa

A whole lot of whams, bams & shabams had gone down, as it turned out.

Eduardo's enthusiasm and good nature comes through as he tells his story, but it seems to wash over the blonde without much effect, the man's expressions remaining steadfastly 'pleasant' even as the story takes its dips and turns.

He didn't write anything down, merely sitting back and listening to the story as it unfolded, making mentals notes to remember the names mentioned for later.

Keldeo's impact was another thing he made a note of. He hadn't seen the colt since the last battle with Kyurem. Perhaps it too held some insight he'd find useful.

As the story came to an end, the blonde smiled politely, tipping his head forward.

"It provided some insight, yes." He said simply, not quite speaking of his 'research' as he turned his gaze to Terrakion.

He nodded at it, before turning back to its chosen.

"Thank you for sharing your story, Mr. Hisawaka." He said, folding his arms behind his back. "Now... Let's talk about your abilities."

He began to move, stepping around the other man. Unlike some few avatars out there, there did not appear to be any obvious changes to the man's body after obtaining avatar powers.

"You said you hadn't tested them since becoming an avatar." He said simply as he finished rounding around the man, coming to a stop in front of him once again. "Are you at least aware of what your new abilities are?"

There is a moment where he considers arguing; as the rockets disperse, sent packing by the Walking Wake's rampage, it seemed like as good a time as any.

But he dismisses the thought.

"Very well." He says simply, staring for a moment longer before dragging his gaze away and towards the depths of the cavern.

There was some curiosity in him, but she wasn't wrong when she spoke of priorities. In any case— she was not a child for him to question.

"Then let's continue. They'll be back with reinforcements before long."

He felt the shockwave ripple through his flesh; something definitely would come.

"Tiberius." He intoned, his Empoleon moving to stand behind him while he waved his hand in the air, pushing away the dust left in the explosion's wake.

Just as it settles, the vermin attracted by the explosion finally arrive: Rocket grunts.

As they all lined up in uniform, he felt any tension their presence might've brought leave his body: if you couldn't tell them apart in a crowd, they were usually pretty harmless.

Brynnhildr Erling, however, appeared to disagree. A lot.

As the paradox stepped forth to run them off, the blonde raised a brow at his lover, cocking his head slightly.

"... Is something the matter?"

That seemed... unusually aggressive.

As the fire swirled above the storm, the arid heat continued to climb up, the air shimmering as if they had truly taken step into a desert.

The Gym leader raised a hand over his head, beads of sweat beginning to gather where his neck met his collar as he lightly tilted his head, observing the battle intently.

As the raging, superheated sandstorm whipt through, the visibility wavering between good or bad as the dust rose and fell, the titanic frame of the Steelix appeared to... somehow, completely disappear.

The battle began with a shadow ball. As the orb of dark blasted towards the Probopass, the sentient nose's gargantuan body rose Infinitesimally before dropping back into the Earth.

The soil around it cracked and then instantly upheaved with a surge of raw power, raising and enwrapping around it like a barrier of dirt, cocooning it within a mass of mud and stone.

Then, that same barrier broke apart, launching its component pieces towards the Mismageus like sharpnel, rock and stone soaring towards the ghost.

Gwyar's eyes drifted to the other's impressive muscles, chuckling. Rather personable, this one! Perhaps character really was key to it?

"I was only told of your avatarship." He said simply, his eyes drifting towards the pokeball on Hisakawa's belt.

It was hard to imagine Terrakion confined to one of them... but for his avatar, perhaps...

He shook his head.

"So, I could use the... 'cliff notes', yes." He said wryly, lifting his gaze back to Hisakawa's own. "I'm quite curious. I've got an... academic interest in this. What goes on in your patron's mind is integral to my personal 'research', you could say."

What made Hisakawa different from the other two? Had personality alone brought him further ahead than Lopez?

His Gym tour marched onwards.

The heels of his dressing shoes thudded against the library's carpeted floors as he passed through many doors, showing no interest in the myriad bookcases lining the walls and halls.

His arm was held at his side in a bicep curl, pokeballs held firmly in hand and rolled about like baoding balls as he continued to advance deeper into the structure.

Finally, he stepped into a room which's purpose was unmistakable— the familiar lines had been carved on the floors.

"Good afternoon." He intoned, ever polite.

There were things he needed to confirm.

Thus, re-challenging the gyms, properly, even if it was a pain, was necessary.

Grass crunched beneath the heels of his dressing shoes as he stepped towards his end of the arena.

Green eyes slowly swept over the broad, open space— a veritable savannah, intended for the Master of Faster to spread his legs, so to speak.

He tapped the tip of his shoe against the soil, testing firmness, before giving his gloves a tug.

Plucking two pokeballs from his belt, he rolled them in his hand like Baoding balls for a moment before swinging his arm out.

As the balls flew through the air, an Archaludon and Runerigus appeared on the field, the steel dragon landing heavily, the living ruins hovering over the soil.

As the dragon and the spirit took in their new surroundings, tested out the soil beneath their claws, the man waited for the gym leader to appear.
