She's sure that someone is looking for her. Probably - no definitely. Especially with the way that she had left the classroom like that, with the way that she had caused a scene.

[break][break] Her father definitely wouldn't have approved. He would have clicked his tongue and given her that look of disappointment that made her stomach churn. But what was she supposed to do? It was Fern.

[break][break] He looks away from her, but she doesn't look away from him. Her gaze burns into him, following the bruises, the bandages on his face, the slight curve of his jaw.

[break][break] She swallows.

[break][break] A different version of her would not have allowed herself to be so close to him, to fall prey to her own inhibitions. But this is a special circumstance and at least for this moment, Mila lets herself be. Her fingers tighten around his own, squeezing gently.

[break][break] His words, however, cause her eyes to widen and then huff, her fingers pulling away from his. "What stairs? The stairs on Mt. Silver?" She huffs, not realizing how close her words may hit to home.

[break][break] Then again, it's likely that neither does he — I just fell down some stairs. How many times had she used the same excuse, with her own teachers? Her fingers, subconsciously, pull at the buff of her sleeves as she sets them down upon her knees.

Which is probably why she bats away the metaphorical awkwardness with the ease of a veteran who has seen many an unsure customer before, stepping away from him and tapping away at the screen to register him into the system.

It's white and soft to the touch, with a hand-woven decoration of a Popplio in the center of it. Mila is quick to pull up a clipboard and pen, sitting down on the sofa.

She lets out a laugh. It hurts.

In general, there were three types of customers that they received at Primadonna, excluding their regulars. There were those who had done loads and loads of research, who had saved every dime and penny they owned, to come into the store and spend their life savings on a single outfit for a single night. Then there were those who came in wearing gold and satin-silk, knowing exactly what they wanted and how they wanted things, without any regard for anyone or any thing.

[break][break] And then, there were those who looked like FERNANDO SILPH did — completely and utterly lost.

[break][break] Well, at least in Mila's opinion. But it seemed Mr. Silph was in luck that day — Mila liked a good project.

[break][break] When he entered, she looked at her two friends in question. It was Annie who spoke up, eyes wide with recognition, before gasping. "Oh my god, I totally forgot. Madame Dupont needed me to take over - oh god, what am I going to do about our reservation honey - "

[break][break] Mila laughed, cutting through. "Don't worry about it. You two - go. It's your special day." She collected the two of them by the elbow and ushered them towards the front entrance.

[break][break] "I'm sure," she said firmly, hand on her hip. She lingered by the receptionist's desk, which was vacant, because it was their day off — or, it was supposed to be. She gave her two friends a stern stare before they slipped past FERNANDO SILPH, mouthing their condolonces. Then, Mila's gaze traveled over to the well-dressed man at her door, to whom she gave a dazzling smile.

Sitting behind her desk, pen to her mouth, as she stared out at the Kantonian skyline, cherry blossom petals floating down onto the spring floor. Just biding her time until the school day was over, bruises hidden beneath a pink sweater, until she could go home and fall apart.

[break][break] But she was holding it together — she was — until she heard.

[break][break] He was back.

[break][break] Desk clattering as she shoved her palms against the wood, metal screeching as she shoved her chair back and excused herself. There was the sound of a denial, of a 'Mila, where do you think you're going?' and 'It's the middle of the day —'
