the fact that the other woman doesn't take her offer for an adorable couples food-feeding event is a mild disappointment to mila, but only mild. you wouldn't know it by looking at her, the way she smiles and easily hands over the utensil, to allow Emma Wolfe to taste the dessert for herself. "good, isn't it?" mila watches her swallow the bite, and something prickles in the corner of her mind, something that speaks almost of a familiarity but it doesn't strike her — not yet.

[break][break] instead she turns back to their treats, taking the cocoa and pressing her lips against the edge of the cup as she drinks the warm liquid. this, too, is delicious, unsurprisingly. "mm," she says, enjoying the savory drink. it was warm and sweet, maybe a little more decadent than mila herself would have preferred, but still good. her hands cup the drink in her hands, warming them, and she opens her eyes again just in time to observe her date drinking the cocoa herself.

[break][break] "it's a bit pepperminty, don't you think?" she says, conversationally, just as the other asks her how her day has been. mila smiles, ready to answer, when that thing in the corner of her mind clicks. it is something about the way emma smiles - forced and reserved - combined with the close proximity that they both sit at, combined with the slightly chilled air of the event, the rustling of foosteps as kids rush past, one of them bumping slightly into her.

[break][break] "how has the rest of your evening been?"

[break][break] the words superimpose on a memory, formerly tucked far-away. "how's your day going?" a bright-eyed mila, on her first solo mission as an official team rocket —

[break][break] mila suddenly stands up, looking pale-faced. her hands slam against the wooden table, the plates clattering. mila is flushed, suddenly. "i - " she swallows, blinking, and then forces a smile. "i'm sorry. i forgot — i just remembered. i left my stove on." she glances, turning — vincenzo, having noticed, is quickly making his way over. her heart is caught in her throat. she looks back at her "date". again, she smiles, but it doesn't quite reach her eyes. "raincheck?"

[break][break] grabbing her belongings, mila swiftly exits the scene, likely headed to the booth to return her skates. she needs to get out of here.

Responding to an ad in the local bulletin board was all a day's work for Mila. However, maybe, she regretted it today a teensy bit, considering the conditions. Freezing wind whipped viciously around her, feeling like sheets of ice that slapped against her cheeks. It was unusual, especially since Hoenn was not particularly known for their cold winters. For Arceus' sake, they were mostly an temperate humid nation.

[break][break] It was the first thing that Mila should have noticed was amiss.

[break][break] But when there was work to be done, there was work to be done, no question about it, and Mila was far from a coward. Her and her party broke into Route 120 with ease. Mila herself was thankfully bundled in a fur-lined coat - the latest shipment in their collection, thankfully -, patterned scarf and gloves. Beside her, Vincenzo seemed relatively unbothered by the snowy landscape. On her other side, heat radiated from the Camerupt called Michelangelo — or Mickey, as she often affectionately referred to him as.

A small, colorful bird approaches them but it seems like her companion doesn't have to even look before he's throwing a pokeball off his shoulder and catching the wild pokemon in one fell-swoop. Her brow rises. "Nice," she comments, eyes glancing only towards a fluttering VIVILLON that soars overhead. She reaches into her bag and taking point, tosses the sphere lightly in the air to catch the passer-by, listening to it's final click as it rolls around in her hand. Mila looks at him, winking, before tossing the ball back into her bag. He wasn't the only one who was good with their hands.

[break][break] The smell of coffee distracts her once again, and they engage in idle chit chatter, as she asks him for a cup of joe. He is calm and mellow as he muses at the potential for more coffee, gesturing to the camp fire. She looks at the iron kettle which, surely enough, has room for two. Her smile is tucked into the corner of her mouth as she awaits an answer.

[break][break] And sure enough, it comes — in the face of an outstretched mug, and she is quick to grab it, in a smooth, easy motion. She takes a sip of the coffee first before answering his unspoken question. "Looks like I'm your exception then, huh?" she says lightly, before handing the mug back to him. The warm liquid settles in her stomach, making the sleep and fatigue from last night's adventures dissipate, as she smiles at him. "Just kidding. I'm Mila. Nice to meet you."

[break][break] She pulls her knees up to her chest, wrapping her arms around them as she gazes out into the distance. There is something about the burgeoning sunrise, the smell of coffee on a just-made fire that makes her feel warm inside.

[break][break] Mila doesn't talk about it though. Instead, the woman turns to angelo vestri . "So, you like camping huh? Are you, like, a Cubchoo scout or something?" She inclines her head towards him, waiting for an answer.

[break][break] Meanwhile, Vincenzo edges forward, cautiously nosing the Arcanine's tail to investigate further.

we already talked about this on discord but i would be ABSOLUTELY down for mila designing his super hero costume, that sounds super awesome! i have to finish mila's infamy plotter, but ye, i think it would be pretty neat for him to know stuff about her past! mila would be pretty traumatized/reluctant to talk about it but i think thats what makes it even more spicy >:) also possibly, he may be able to find out where maybe some of her family is, but that's for a longer plot later down the line. Mila might not have looked it, but the truth was, she actually loved hiking. She loved traveling too. Had her job called for it a little bit more, she would have definitely taken the opportunity to travel farther then the region's stormy seas. That, and Mila was a terrible work-o-holic. She barely found herself out of the studio to relax and even when she was supposed to be relaxing... she wasn't really relaxing.

[break][break] "What?" she said, munching on a breakfast egg sandwich that she had hapzhardly grapped out of her napsack. Once again, just like always, Vinny was staring at her like he had something to say. Except he didn't say anything. Just with his eyes.

[break][break] "I'm eating, aren't I?" she said, voice slightly muffled as she swallowed the last bites of her breakfast. Or was it dinner? It was hard to tell. The light that streaked the sky said that it was barely daybreak, which probably meant that Mila had made yet another impulsive decision to take a train halfway across the region to - what - go hiking? Look at the sunset? Hey, it would make a beautiful instagram shot. "You should be more like Mickey, look, even he's happy." She pointed, and sure enough, the usually grumpy Camerupt had almost the beginnings of a small on his face as he climbed up the mountain.

[break][break] It was a rare thing for him - but he and Milo used to take hikes all the time, and definitely the warm atmosphere of Mt. Pyre suited him way more than the icy temperatures down below as of late.

[break][break] Vinny didn't seem to like that. For once, he narrowed her eyes and bristled, showing his distaste for her comment. It wasn't like him to get so worked up, especially with Mila, over what was supposed to be an idle comment. Oh! Blinking, she reached into her bag and then handed him a pokemon treat - kind of like the ones that he'd eaten a few days ago with Chu-e Choi . The Alolan Ninetales immediately softened, and allowed her to pat him between the ears. "Aw, you were just hungry, huh?"

The floor of the cavern was wet, and the walls slightly damp, as Mila and her party made her way through the unfamiliar territory. She had never come to visit before, but she'd responded to an ad for an elderly woman in Mauville that she wanted to get a pretty seashell for her niece. Now, Mila was never one to half-ass things - well things that she cared about, anyways - and she thought she would take the extra mile (quite literally) for this nice woman. (That, and of course, the added benefit of padding her wallet with extra cash was already a great incentive.)

[break][break] "It's not that bad, " she said, lollipop in her mouth, trotting through the cavern. Her jacket flared behind her as another gust of wind roared through the cave, but her patterned scarf was nice enough to keep her warm. Well, somewhat warm. She was a Hoenn native; Mila wasn't that used to the cold temperatures, even if it wasn't cold the way it would've been in other regions, like Galar or even Johto. She looked at the Alolan Ninetales that accompanied her, his light blue fur gleaming in the sunlight that streamed down from the cave's skylight. There were cracks in the rocks where the otuside world could peek through, but Mila figured, the deeper that they got into the cavern, the less that would be true.

[break][break] In fact, it was getting darker and darker...

[break][break] There was a rustle of sound, and Mila let out an involuntary squeak. "Who's there?" She wasn't afraid of the dark. She wasn't.

[break][break] Even so, Vincenzo sent her a knowing look and she glared back at him in response.
