The training was going as expected. jayden cross stood at the edge of the clearing, tapping away at his phone to send a swift message to his groupchat with BARNABY FINCH, howard slayte and fern delaney to update them on the day's events. Before long, however, he was pocketing his phone and striding through the crowd, carefully observing each and every grunt that had been signed on for the day.

a young jayden would have felt jealous, envious, that knox had such a life. that he'd killed his father in ways that jayden had never been able to. that he had a sister like summer. that he had a partner like sam.

[break][break] to know that there was a version of himself out there that didn't belong to knox, because it never really had, not when he and knox were too similar — they were puzzle pieces that didn't fit, jammed only together, by the thing called rocket.

Unaware of the tumultuous thoughts that were racing through Aurelie Lefevre's mind on the difference between both factions, Jayden was calm as they rode into the city. One apparition easily transitioned into another, and it was all that much easier to forget that they were in a simulation, not reality.

[break][break] As it always did, Aurelie Lefevre's touch rooted him in reality, just as lights spun like star silk in the tapestry of the night sky. It was easy to forget where they were, and where they were going.

[break][break] It was only the blacksmith's words that jerked him back to the present, away from memories of Chu-e Choi and a lifetime that had never been his to own.

[break][break] "Yeah," he murmured. "It is quite nice."

[break][break] Almost nice enough to forget, he thought but didn't voice aloud.
