Leo had answered been walking along the streets of Slateport when a local restaurant owner had asked him for a favor and despite the fact that they were strangers, despite the fact that Leo had never seen him in his life, the boy accepted. And who had to take the brunt of that favor? His Zebstrika, of course.

[break][break] Not that Peanut minded. It was rarely a time when she could run so fast and so openly, being cooped up in the city for as long as she was. Though she was happy to accompany her trainer as he pursued his dreams - or what he thought were his dreams anyway - sometimes she missed the open landscape of Foster's Farms, where she could have run as she pleased. Her hooves clattered against the ground as she galloped through the city, muzzle snapped around the delivery bag, she ramped up herself up first with WILD CHARGE and then coated herself in flame as she used FLAME CHARGE. Sure, maybe the chicken was a little charred when it arrived — but that added a bit of a twist?

[break][break] When she delivered it to her customer with a satisfied whinny, she allowed herself to be pet once - or maybe a few times - by the kids that clambered up to her before she was speedily on her way to her next destination. Maybe when she returned, Leo would have some pokepuffs ready for her. Arceus knew she deserved it.

01. was raised in Olddale Town alongside caroline foster . He is a very likable kid and well-known among the community for being friendly and always willing to do a favor. [break][break]

02. attended elementary, middle and high school in Olddale Town, with few trips outside of the town itself. his parents are by no means poor, but they are lower middle-class, and would have rather saved money than spend it on extravagant vacations. this wasn't a thing that bothered leo, for the most part.

a couple of times in high school he was able to fill class fundraisers to get enough money to go on the trip. and of course, some of his friends pitched in just so he could take apart of their senior class trip.

03. currently attends slateport university as a sophomore. he is currently enrolled as a communciations major and film minor, though he's thinking of changing. reading isn't really his thing, you know.

secrets

— that not even he knows about. while he thinks that he was raised by two doting parents with a perfect marriage, the truth is that his parents had a hard time conceiving. as a result, he is adopted.

leo himself is not even aware of the truth of his lineage — the day he finds out will be a shocking one indeed.

02. when he was young, his parents had marriage troubles. nothing big, just a small bump - his father had an affair when he was stressed with work and out on business trips. it's the type of thing that travels fast in a small town like olddale, but in hushed whispers, behind closed doors. the kind of thing only spoken among adults, when kids aren't in the room. most of it has already been dug far under the rug -- after all, both rosalia and antonio worked through it, as all good marriages do, and have left the past in the past. leo, unfortunately, is unaware of it too - and any unspoken lineage he may have. The other man pulls away from him, and Leo barely notices. His attention is still focused on the woman and the options she gave the both of them, his mind trying to work it like a puzzle. But there are too many options, and the boy is easily confused, especially when it involves a lot of words. Could you guess that he's a student at Slateport University, attending actual college? Probably not.

[break][break] Luckily, it seems like Councilman Lykos is there to save the day, once again.

[break][break] The woman clasps her hands in excitement, and it is only then that she seems to notice that is is Council member in front of them. And here she was, complaining about gardeners! She gives a soft little gasp, and then immediately stammers, "Councilman, oh no, I didn't realize -" And she'd been there the whole time, ordering him around!

[break][break] However, before she can say anything else, Leo is already climbing backatop his Zebstrika and offering a hand to the other in an attempt to hitch him a ride. If Orion takes his hand, he'll be sure to help him hoist on top of Peanut before leading them to the backside of the building, where the gardens are.

[break][break] When they arrive, they are met with the sight of a wide field in the center of a plaza, sectioned off between four buildings. It is mostly vacant - which is good, if you have social anxiety, but also unfortunate because it means there is a lot of work to be done. There are wooden logs stacked in the corner from where the construction workers had failed to clean up. The new soil has already been placed and smoothed into the ground, however there are still pots and flowers unplanted stacked on the side, needing to be attended to.

[break][break] Immediately - almost excitedly - Leo slides down his Zebstrika and then heads over to the flowers, hand pressed against his chin as he considers where to start. He turns back to the other with a grin. "You said you had a green thumb, right?"

YESSS i love love this idea. i have leo currently as a second year, mostly because i figure he probably tried to help his mom out and work out at home before he decided to go to university, so i could definitely make his timeline flexible. either 1) he goes looking at colleges right after high school, and doesn't immediately go right away 2) they meet when leo is older and he is that weird older kid in school (though i feel like in the pokemon universe - it is probably not as weird as the real world, since pokemon is pretty untraditional education wise as it is).

[break][break] plot twist: does angelo play any sports? maybe not super competitively, but like, if they were in an intramural together or their schools had rival games. leo is probably on his school's swim team! and he is friendly with a bunch of people, so im sure he shows up randomly at sporting events even if hes not actually part of the team LOL [break][break]

Another person — any other sane person — would have noticed and maybe been a little taken aback by the dingy, maybe even downtrodden nature of the hotbox. The sound of leaves crunching in the air, a consistent yet methodical sound. The faint smell of herbs as the man in front of him crunches them into a bits and pieces with nothing but a mortor and pestle. The broad back, the muscular arms flexing on an individual hard at work. Everything about it seemed untrustworthy, seemed like everything that his immigrant mother had spent her life preparing him to avoid, and yet there leonício antonio del río álvarez sat, unknowing and unbidden, a sloppy smile on his face.

[break][break] the college boy pouts, his bottom lip jutting out. "why not?" he huffs, fingers curling at the far edge of the counter. despite his expression, however, leo isn't bothered. this, he's used to. he had wandered into eli's shop many months ago. he knew the sitch. yet still, he tried. "not even a little one?" he makes a little motion with his hands, pinching the air, to emulate just in case that elijah gardner wasn't sure what 'little' meant.

[break][break] however, it seemed like his little tactic worked — or maybe leo was just lucky. either way, it is only a moment's more before elijah turns to him, asking what he wants. leo's face brightens even further — if possible. his smile is blinding. "ice cream! no, a crepe! wait..." his stomach rumbles, and he puts a hand on his belly to quiet it. "...can we get brunch?" his eyes are round behind their glasses as he awaits the other man's answer.

christmas was one of the best times of the year. at least, leo thought so. his family was big on the holidays as well. not only was his mother a devout catholic, but the olddale town remained one of the most festive places in all of hoenn. again, at least, from leo's perspective. he couldn't have been expected to know anything else though — he'd only really been to slateport and olddale, though he'd occasionally spent vacations other places. it wasn't that big cities like slateport didn't celebrate, they just did it different. leo thought of the ornanments and candy hapshazardly stuffed into a goodie bag that his ta had given him for the end of the semester. he thought about the dollar-store bought wreaths hung rushingly on his dorm-room door. none of it amounted to the same warmth and familiarity he felt when walking into his childhood home — the smell of a roasting turkey, sweet sugar cookies, of piles and piles of pan de atun his father set on the dining room table.

[break][break] he and his parents walked into the familiar home of the foster's farm with ease. his father was easily turned away by other neighbors, an arm thrown around him as they were directed to the tv to talk about soccer and politics. his mama was turned away too, heading directly to the kitchen, full of pre-prepared foods that she intended to warm up and share the festivities with. leo himself wore an obnoxious christmas sweater his mother had made for him, paired with beige pants. his zebstrika peanut was outside - too big to fit in the foster's main home - but she was catching up with old barnyard friends too — after all, she had grown up here. queso, his togedemaru, scurried quickly between his feet and headed towards the charmander wearing a santa hat, eager to feel the warmth of the fireplace.

[break][break] leo's eyes were bright as he noticed caroline foster among the crowd. he immediately jumped up behind her, throwing his arms around her in a carefree hug. "hey! merry christmas!" he grinned, a perfectly gummy smile as he leaned himself against her, not at all cognizant of his very public display of affection.

The stern, expectant eyes of the woman made Leo feel like he was sweating bullets. He turned, awkwardly, back to Peanut who simply looked blankly back at him. The Zebstrika snorted. 'What, you expect me to do something?' She looked away, stamping a hoof against the ground when a small fly attemtped to settle on her muzzle.

[break][break] However, lucky for Leo, his knight in shining armor showed up on the scene — teleporting quite literally into view. A dapper looking man, who was fixing his collar, and seeming somewhat sheepish. Not that, of course, Leo noticed any of that.

[break][break] His face brightened almost immediately and in no time at all, he attempted to grab the other man's arm and drag him back over to the woman in question — who was looking somewhat impatient by this point. "Yup! Right here, I got my man right here."

[break][break] Of course, Orion's question went unheard by Leo's ears — not that it particularly mattered. The boy would not have been able to tell him what the job was, as he barely knew it himself.

[break][break] "Oh goody!" the woman said, clasping her hands together. "What strong, handsome looking men —" Her eyes went over Orion in particular as she said this. "There is still some rubble from the aftermath — a broken wall that needs painting and spackling, some broken air conditioner units that need fixing, and of course, clearing of the construction site at the back of the building — those construction workers don't know how to clean up after themselves." She clicked her tongue disapprovingly. "In fact, the entire garden needs work, if either of you have a green thumb." She smiled, in the only warm, yet slightly condescending way, that a woman like her could. "So what'll it be? Take your pick!"

[break][break] Leo looked at the other man, expecting him to choose.

Leo yawned.

He had pulled an all-nighter the day before, trying to write a report for his final. Honestly, it wasn't his fault — he had planned it all out. He had known everything that he was supposed to do, had written an outline and everything! But before he knew it, time had gotten ahead of him and before he knew it, it had been almost 3AM and the final he was supposed to turn in was at 7AM. By some miraculous twist of fate, he had managed to finish and turn it in, but from the look of his professor's face... well, he wasn't going to think about that! Today, he had a mission to do!

[break][break] The club that he was part of had all agreed that they would do volunteer work this weekend in spirit of the holidays that were about to come up, and Leo was never one to turn down an offer to help people. After, what would his Mom have to say about that? Nothing good, probably. She'd always told him how important it was to help people in need, as long as he was able. It was good for his soul, or God would smile down on him, or something like that — honestly, he could never really listen to her rambling.

[break][break] By the time that Leo had arrived to the University to join the group heading to the volunteer site... well, he had been late. Hey, he had barely gotten three hours of sleep. It was lucky that Peanut was able to take him, and that it wasn't too far away. The six foot boy was currently laying lazily over his Zebstrika as she did all of the work, her hooves trotting through the streets of Slateport's Upper District with relative ease.

[break][break] She made a small whinny, and he looked up groggily, yawning. "Oh — we here?" Blinking, he slid off of her and onto the floor beneath. There were set in front several skyscraper apartments, and while there were many people bustling around in the city streets, it didn't seem unusual for Slateport. Before Leo could question it, however, a middle-aged woman came rushing out of a building.

[break][break] "Thank goodness you're here! We need all the hands we can get — wait a moment. Aren't there supposed to be two of you?"

"I'm hungryyyyyyy," Leo whined in a puff of breath, long arms draped over the counter top and legs swinging beneath him. Honestly, it was a marvel that his lanky body even fit in the enclosed space. Or maybe it didn't, and the boy was shoving himself in there regardless. It seemed pretty on point for the situation that the two of them had. Leo — who had wandered into the shop sometime last year, on pure accident in an attempt to find a probably much less shady herb supplement store for his film project — wasn't the kind of person that would let something as negligent as space stop him from doing what he wanted.

Glasses sliding down his nose, he huffed as he watched his friend (were they friends?) hard at work. Leo had stopped by earlier that day as soon as his classes were over. Though, it couldn't be said it was intentional. He had wandered into the lower district shops in an attempt to pick up some new film for class. Even though he was technically a Journalism major, and only a Film minor, he wanted to make sure he did it right. His latest project entailed him doing research, research he was currently procrastinating, in favor of hanging out with elijah gardner .

Plus, it wasn't fault he got lost. At this point, it should've been predictable.

The college student sat up slightly — pulled his limbs in, in favor of leaning a cheek into his palm as he watched the other man at work. "Do you have a break soon? Can we get something to eat?" His stomach grumbled. It was barely 11AM. He had just forgotten to eat breakfast.
