He doesn't notice — at least, not at first. However, when the other speaks, teal-green eyes find themselves drawn to the shock of red hair and the man that it belongs to. The man is close with the new DK, perhaps a little bit too close, from the comfortable way that they address each other, the arm slung over a shoulder. Kris is quick to notice it - maybe the new DK isn't the only person he has to get on the good side of.

[break][break] "Sure thing," he grins to Jonathan, and then waves his arm at one of the lackeys. It's a young, blond fellow, probably not over the age of 18. In the gang, he's known as Cheetah, for his love of racing and motorvehicles. His real name's Nick, though Kris isn't supposed to know that. "Cheet, go get ready," he says casually , as he hops off his bike. Though they don't have any real money in the game, Keith had made a few bets on who'd win the race. A win wasn't necessary, but it would certainly hope their case if they were able to win the respect and intel of the DK king along with it.

[break][break] As Cheetah heads off in the direction the DK and the other racers head off to, the redhead lags behind. He pats the seat next to him, offering it to Kris, and after a moment's hesitation, the boy joins him. The brunette runs his hand through hair, a nervous tic. He isn't used to dealing with these thugs - at least not yet. Today's gonna be his start.

[break][break] "So," he says, drawing the syllable out. Small talk has never eluded him but for some reason, in the dimly lit area of the underground ring, it does. "What's with you? You have money in the race? Or are you just buds with the DK?"

They'd sent him.

[break][break] Kris could hardly believe it himself. It felt like just yesterday he'd met Keith in the center of Saffron City, having been caught half-way between a mall cop and a bullshit customer service rep, trying to lie through his teeth that he hadn't just stuffed cigarettes and lottery cards into his pockets when the cashier hadn't been looking. It felt like just yesterday that they'd invited him to the gang house, shown him his room, and let him be one of their own. And now, he was gonna be their rep on what was apparently a very important, very high profile mission.

[break][break] The twenty year old felt high as a kite, either cause of the bong he'd smoked thirty minutes ago to chill out his nerves, or cause of the thrill of adrenaline in his veins as he rode his motorcycle through Saffron City streets. His hands gripped the handlebars of his hog, a piece of paper flapping in the wind. Barely legible - fuckin' Keith couldn't be trusted to write a thing for the life of him, his chickenscratch was worse than any doctor's easily, - it was a note where he was supposed to meet the new DK. A double entendre, the dude was both a Drift King and a Drug King, and it was Kris' job to get him to spill the beans on the latest shipment.

[break][break] 'Course, they hadn't set Kris alone. He had a few lackeys along for the ride, and they were flying the streets alongside him, as they hit a city street corner and went into the alleyway. As soon as they arrived though, it became clear that they weren't the only ones there. Other neighborhood gangmembers had seemed to make an appearance, all of them lining up on what was apparently the startling line.

[break][break] Kris grinned, all shark-teeth. He wasn't afraid.

[break][break] No, his rig was going to blow them to shits, straight out of the water. He was sure of it.

[break][break] "C'mon guys," he said, with a wave of his hand, rolling to a stop and leading them to an open area. The so-called "DK" was only a few feet away, and so, Kris leaned forward. "You're the new DK, huh? Ready to get your ass beat?"

[break][break] The man, who had been talking to someone, glanced in Kris' direction. First, his gaze clouded with confusion and then cleared with understanding. He smirked. "You're Keith's new guy, aren't you?"

[break][break] Kris gave him a thumbs up. "Yep."

[break][break] The other man barked a laugh. "And you're not afraid? Of the ... " He waved his arms, gesturing at the open air loftily.

[break][break] "The casualities?" The brunette grinned. "Hell no. They're half the fun."

where was flynn's sense of humor? gone, hidden away, possibly dead. it went along with the rest of him that had disappeared when his life had fallen apart, when his wife had left him, when noah had died, and he'd had to watch his mom's casket get buried into the ground and could do nothing to stop them. thais' jokes flew over his head, including her comment about taking it easy. the only acknowledgement that he even gave that he heard her was a small grunt as he looked down at her ankle and kept it in place.

[break][break] he winced when she screamed in his ear with pain - expectedly - when he sprayed the antiseptic, and watched carefully as his larvesta made quick work of her ankle, wrapping it tightly with a well-placed stringshot. with that out of the way, it seemed that the woman was in less pain than before -- at least enough to lean back in the sand and give him a glance.

[break][break] he looked at her as she made a comment about recognizing him, and he arched a brow at her, staring at her blankly. he didn't recognize her - at least, he didn't think he did. then again, he rarely paid attention to most people these days. it was quite possible that they knew each other, maybe from work, and he just hadn't given her the time of day.

[break][break] letting her mull over that by himself, flynn pushed his hands to his knees and stood up. he folded his arms. "just off the coast of lilycove," he responded, deciding first to reply to the thing that was easiest and simplest, and the thing that made him least irate. "what were you doing anyway? did you crash seaside?"

[break][break] niles, who had been surfing in the water, seemed to finally have realized that he was without his trainer and had found flynn. what he had also found was another fellow shark-playmate and he chirped in a friendly way before butting the other with his nose. he was exited - he only ever had blue to play with, and she didn't like playing. at least not with him.

[break][break] flynn glanced sideways at the water-types, before turning his teal gaze back to Thais Flores . "and don't call me that," he grunted. "the name's flynn." his mightyena, who had been observing the whole situation, stepped forward and pressed a nose against thais' shoulder in greeting. "that's blue, and that - " he said, jerking his head towards the two sharks. "is niles."

The thugs scrambled off, like the sewer rats they were, and Flynn felt something like relief release inside of him. Though he certainly didn't look it, these types of interactions always made him feel tense. Uncomfortable. He was glad to be over with it, even though it was not completely over. Not yet.

[break][break] His eyes darted over to the woman who had been left beside him in the alleyway, and when he made his remark, he could tell that her brows were furrowed. Either with distaste or displeasure, but over what, Flynn could not even begin to care.

[break][break] She grumbled a bit in defiance, but otherwise didn't try to refute it, and in that moment, Flynn knew that she was not a threat -- at least not in comparison to the rats that they had disposed of. One hand fell to Blue's head, a signal. The Mightyena released the tension in her shoulders, her hackles down, her tail wagging slowly to the side as she padded forward and pressed her nose into the pad of the woman's open palm in greeting.

[break][break] “Is there a way I can thank you? Buy you a drink or somethin?”

[break][break] Flynn's response was immediate, his tone flat. "No."

[break][break] The Team Rocket hated few things less than owing one a favor, and even though the context of this one was a favor for a favor, he still couldn't swallow it. Especially, after all, since he had things to be doing.

[break][break] He stepped forward, picking up what appeared to be a piece of crumpled paper to the ground. Expectedly, it was scrap that one of the thugs had left, and had the location and time for a meet-up. Likely at whoever was their main boss, their head honcho.

[break][break] Stupid. Those fake rockets would not have lasted a second under Silas' rule, or Walsh's. His brow furrowed as he read the small slip of paper, memorized the info, and then tossed it back to the ground. Flynn couldn't return to the HQ knowing that there were rats still wandering the streets, and as unfortunate as it was, he had to clean up shop.

[break][break] Before he left the alleyway, he gave Alexandra Briarwood one last look. "Get home safe."

well. she was not dead.

[break][break] the woman - it was a woman, he realized, perhaps a little belatedly and not a floating mannequin - rolled her head back, trying to get her bearings. there was an unflattering cut carved into her brow, and the smile that she sent flynn was half-weak, half-bloody and just barely alive. his nose wrinkled as she coughed up what appeared to be salty oceanwater, and he stepped back a little bit, giving her space as she waved at him to turn away.

[break][break] rather than overwhelm her with worry, the crease in flynn's brow only deepened as he crossed his arms over his broad chest as he gave her the onceover. flynn had seen many a shipwreck, but perhaps none as bad as this -- or at the very least, as unexpected as this.

[break][break] "sorry, " he said, his tone blunt and and not at all apologetic. his voice was heavy with sarcasm. "i didn't realize you were sunbathing."

[break][break] Thais Flores barely looked alive, what the fuck was that? she was worried about some sun?

[break][break] before he could bark another, likely sarcastic phrase, there was a wave that splashed against the shoreline and - quite unfortunately - on her leg. it was immediately - the woman let out a sound of howling pain, one that likely drew the look of passerby's, all who gave flynn a judgemental look. what did you do to her?

[break][break] flynn grit his teeth. for fuck's sake.

[break][break] "c'mere," he said with a growl, dropping to his legs and immediately wrapping his hands to her legs to stabilize it. it was obvious that it was injured - maybe even broken - and her moving it was definitely not doing any help. at his side, his mightyena appeared, her maws wrapped around the first aid kid that he carried on his person at all times. he did quick work of cleaning the wound, and then spraying some antiseptic on it - which probably hurt like a bitch. not that flynn cared.

[break][break] his eyes flicked over to the larvesta, which had been previously dozing on a nearby rock, had his eyes pinned with curiosity at the scene that had unfolded. "beau, come over here, and wrap her ankle for me, would ya?" the larvesta obediently hopped off the rock and then, suddenly, a spool of string shot out of it's mouth, wrapping around the woman's ankle. not only would it stabilize it, but the string shot was likely more sterile than disgusting salty seawater.

[break][break] there. that was a fix, at least for now. his eyes drifted back to the woman, tentative to see what she thought about it. if she was even in the state to realize what was happening.

His eyes widened, and then narrowed.

[break][break] The movement was quick, but perceptible, his eyes turning a crackling lightning green. Rocket. Of course, as a member of Rocket since he was 23, it wasn't that Flynn was particularly surprised about it. He had heard the name enough times to roll heads — what he was surprised, however, was that these measly rats uttering the name from their mouth. One look at them and he could tel lthat they were definitely not a member of the crime syndicate. At the very least, not the current iteration of it.

[break][break] His lip curled. His grip grew tighter.

[break][break] Before he could say anything, however, the redhead woman from earlier approached him. Rather than the damsel in distress that she looked like a few seconds prior, there was a fire in her eyes as she approached the two thugs, immediately grabbing onto one of the man's ears and twisting it. Hard.

[break][break] Flynn stepped out of the way, since the woman seemed to have it under control. The previously muscular and possibly armed thug seemed to absolutely crumble in the arms of this woman, stammering words that were only barely discernable. His companion had already been rendered useless by Blue, unable to do anything but clutch his arm as he howled with pain and fear, as the Mightyena stayed above him snarling.

[break][break] The Team Rocket grunt watched with a surprise - and admittingly, a bit of admiration - as the woman reduced the thug to nothing with mere words, as he shook his head fiercely in response to her question if he had sent them. 'He?' Flynn couldn't help but wonder, but he didn't have time to think, because it was only a minute later that the woman was stepping back, seemingly satisfied with his efforts.

[break][break] The same, however, couldn't be said for Flynn. His eyes lit a fire as he glowered at the man, arms folded. "And I know fuckin' Rocket didn't send you neither. Don't kid yourselves." Looking down with disdain at the useless rat of a thug, he swung his leg in a fierce kick, making the thug howl only harder. "You'd never last a day."

[break][break] The thug's eyes widened, as if coming to the same conclusion that Flynn had already several moments earlier. They had made a big mistake — trying to masquerade as an organization that they were well beneath. "You boneheads better screw off if you know what's good for you," he growled. The man could only stare back at him, stunned. Fucking useless. "Well?" he asked once more, and when they still didn't move, he jerked his head forward, stamping the ground for emphasis. The movement seemed to shock both of the thugs out of their senses, and the shorter man scrambled off, only just grabbing his injured friend with him.

[break][break] That left Flynn and the woman in the alleyway, along with Blue. The Mightyena padded over to her trainer, and though she was no longer snarling, it was obviously that she was still a bit tense. Flynn was too.

[break][break] He gave her a look. "You shouldn't be wandering in alleyways, ma'am."

One of the benefits of being stationed in Lilycove - and one of the many reasons that he'd found himself gravitating to it before he'd been working there - was it's seaside. When he wasn't on patrol in the city streets, Flynn found it comforting to gaze at the waves from a distance, watching as the waves crashed unforgivingly against the rocks. There was just something about the sight of it that was both violent and forgiving at the same time, the roar of sound that washed over him being able to drown out his own inner turmoil. The only thing better than watching it was surfing on it, which was what Flynn was doing at that very moment, gloved hands wrapped around the fin of his Sharpedo.

[break][break] Where his Mightyena could be best described as cool and unwavering, his Sharpedo was cool and unpredictable. Nemo thrashed about in the waves, making sharp and sudden angles that made Flynn's stomach turn. As a kid, he would have soumersalted into the waves and let himself be swallowed by it. However, after having practiced many years with the water-type, he knew exactly when to lean his weight forward, when to grip the fin and re-direct his pokemon so that he didn't crash.

[break][break] For the citizens of Lilycove, their resident policeman surfing on the waves was not an unfamiliar site. A few of them waved at him as he passed, though Flynn paid them no mind, focused on the feeling of wind in his hair and thrill in his veins. Exhilaration filled his lungs as he took a breath in the ocean air, as Niles zipped and zoomed around giggling children in plastic tubes, social media-frenzied tourists and playing water types.

[break][break] After about thirty minutes, Flynn steeled his pokemon to a stop and decided it was good enough for a break. He directed the Sharpedo towards a sandbank and soon enough, he had set up camp. His Mightyena lounged by a fire, dozing peacefully, and his Larvesta was perched atop a rock, gazing curiously at the oceanside. For his Sharpedo, he threw treats skyward as the shark jumped up in the air to catch them. Out of the corner of his eye, sitting down on the sandbank, Flynn observed the people that were floating a few miles away. There was something about the cold ocean air nipping at his skin that made watching the civilians all that more bearable -- or maybe it was the fact that people playing in the ocean tended to cause far less trouble than their cityside counterparts. Well usually, Flynn thought, as he chewed on a piece of jerky.

[break][break] A flicker of movement caught his eye - just as Thais Flores 's Sharpedo appeared shoreside. At first, confusion registered - wild Sharpedo rarely ever wandered this close to the shore - before suddenly, Flynn stood up. He recognized the form of a human being - dead (?) - atop the pokemon's back and immediately walked over, his beef jerkey left on the ground forgotten. The body let out a groan of something - so maybe not dead? - and as Thais rolled her eyes skyward, she would find the glowering gaze of the Lilycove policeman standing above her, his face pinched with concern. Unfortuantely, for Flynn, concern looked a lot like anger on his face.

[break][break] He pressed his toes against her shoulder, just to check.

He was late, but there was no time like the present. Flynn appeared at the steps of michiko maeda 's home, flyer in hand that detailed the requests of the specific task. Or rather specific tasks, since it seemed unclear exactly what the woman required. Spring cleaning was an incredibly broad topic, after all. That being said, Flynn was not the only of the latecomers who arrived. He came with a few others, who immediately all dispersed into various tasks upon arriving at the quaint facility.

[break][break] For his own work, Flynn finds himself heading towards the back gardens where there is... for a lack of a better word, a lot going on. For one thing, he recognizes Lilycove's own councilman Orion Lykos among them. The esteemed politican is leaning over what appears to be several holes in the ground, as many, many Trapinch attempt to turn the poor man's legs into lunch.

[break][break] It looks like he needs help, so Flynn releases Beau from his waist. "Chase 'em off, would ya?" he grunts at the Larvesta, who uses a few well-placed string shots to either immobilize the bug pokemon giving the councilman trouble, or causing them to burrow deeper into the earth. Grabbing a nearby shovel, Flynn drops to a squat beside the other and begins to help him filling in the remainder of the holes.

[break][break] While he's at it, he might as well attempt some feeble conversation. "Councilman," he greets with a nod. His words, however, hold more meaning than they're worth — "Didn't really expect you here." What he means: didn't expect people like you here.

As far as he was concerned, Flynn was at work -- and when he was at work, he was focused on little else besides it. It was for this reason that the Lilycove Policeman spoke out to the crowd, paying no attention to who might have been in it's midst. The rest of the crowd seems to only stare at him in stunned silence, as if they are almost as useless as the two boys that were beating each other up. Fucking mob mentality. Flynn's lip curled in distaste, annyoed, and about to pull out his own phone when finally a woman spoke out from the crowd.

[break][break] It's the same woman from earlier, and this time she has a Chansey. Her pokemon does quick work of healing the injured civilian, who looks sheepish and awkward to have to be the center of such attention. Flynn, for the moment, is distracted and still does not take notice of Alethea Ivanova , his eyes narrowed with concentration to make sure that the boy is in good shape. He asks the boy questions about his name and where he's from, all the while either ignoring or avading Sarah's questions or flirtations. When she places her hand adoringly on his bicep, getting up all in his personal space, he looks away and continues talking to the boy. The only clue that he has even noticed is the slight flush on his features — a mark of the old Kristopoher, who is somewhere still inside. Once he gets the boy's name and number, he sends him off too, and it's only then that Flynn looks around. Where had Blue gone?

[break][break] Unlike Flynn, who still remained ignorant to the existence of Alethea Ivanova , Blue is not. As soon as the civilians were taken care of, her nose takes to the air and her expression brightens as she smells and notices Flynn's old friend. As a dog, she has absolutely no idea of the animsity between them — or so it appears. The canine sprints towards the crowd, making a few members jump away with unease and wags her tail excitedly as she presses her cold nose against Thea. She is not so uncouth that she jumps — though she certainly wants to — but she certainly does give a friendly bark in her direction.

[break][break] It is her bark that makes Flynn's head snap up, and his gaze suddenly fixate on the all-to-familiar blond woman who his wolf is accosting. Teal eyes snap instantly to blue, and the still-breathtaking woman it belongs to.

[break][break] Flynn nearly loses his own breath.

he is hunky and handy! he grew up with a single mother, and cooked often enough for the both of them to know his way around the kitchen. flynn is also happy to do anything, given that he is properly compensated, and fixing old clocks or lifting boxes or dusting is definitely up his alley too. oh, also the shed salamance. honestly, whatever works!
