It’s quiet, simple. They do their work individually but with an attentiveness that keeps them uninterrupted. The few pokemon that dared to venture too close found themselves at the mercy of the demon. The Shadow Gardevoir snapped back to her side when she sharply whistled for her. With their bags full, they ascend back to reality.

It’s unexpectedly quiet as they descend deeper into the Great Chasm. The rocks crunch softly beneath their boots and the strange sensation of deja vu creeps across her mind. She inhales deeply, the cool air of the chasm running through her lungs and bringing with it the lingering scent of a cigarette that clings to her jacket. It brings a sense of peace with a subtle desire.

She’s quiet, as usual, not offering up more than what’s required of her. She follows a half step behind Theo, one hand in the pocket of her leather jacket and the other resting on a pokeball at the ready. She knows there are predators lurking in the shadows, ready to pick off the weak and complacent.

Lex stared down at the Great Chasm with a rather apathetic gaze, hard to read. This wasn’t her first excursion into the scar that now marred the Icelands. It was dangerous, but thrilling. She didn’t have an agenda in the Chasm, she was just here because Yumi Hasegawa suggested it. Mei Liu wanted to explore and a little back up wouldn’t hurt. It definitely had nothing to do with the fact that Mei was, in fact, a beautiful woman.

For now, things were eerily quiet as they wandered down the rocky path dotted with magnificent masses of Tera Crystals. Lex’s shadow flexes, stretching across the ground in an unnatural manner. It shot forward, scouting ahead for any of the dangerous beasts they had previously encountered, “I wouldn’t recommend wandering off,” not that she didn’t think the woman could handle herself, Lex didn't' judge like that. It just really wasn’t a safe place, and she certainly didn’t want to piss of Yumi by letting her roommate get killed.

The ex-beast’s tongue clicked against the roof of her mouth. She looked rather displeased, but she always looked like that so it was hard to get a read on her. Resting bitch face was kind of her thing. She uncrossed her arms, letting them settle on her hips, “In and out, we’ll make this quick, yeah?” She had no desire to drag this out longer than it needed to be. Working with a partner wasn’t really her ‘thing’.

“You take care of the grunts, I’ll grab the goods,” she played to both of their strengths: he’d do the killing, she’d do the thieving. She didn't bother to get a name nor introduce herself. The less she knew about him the better, "How do you want to approach?" she asked, squatting to peer down from their vantage point on a small tent that housed some DRK Triad grunts and whatever research they had managed to collect thus far.

Yumi lightened the pressure to ensure she didn’t feel overwhelmed. Almost as if she knew her better than most. Which she did. Lex’s lips creased into a tight line while she chewed, lifting her gaze to watch Yumi across the table as they dug into their main course. For a moment, her mind wandered, considering this may be the best case scenario. She wasn’t expecting an opportunity like this. In fact, she was content to suffer alone. A part of her felt like she deserved it. She should have been better for Killian. Maybe he wouldn’t have wanted to accept Deoxys if she was just better.

Just another excuse for the inevitable. In truth, there was no stopping the course of events that led her to this moment. He was greedy when it came to knowledge and power, the legendary offered him so much she couldn’t and never would have been able to. It was easier to accept the alternative rather than the truth.

“Yeah, sure, what’ve you been up to?”

Lex had been in Johto for a while and missed quite a few things in her absence. She listened intently, curiously about Yumi’s endeavors in Hoenn and how business was for her.

Lex also didn’t quite care why the crystals had to measure a certain length and width. She had learned a long time ago it was better to not ask questions - just do the job and do it right. She was a good little foot soldier like that. Until you pissed her off, then there was an abyss of a grudge to transverse.

“On it,” she responded to both the search for crystals and for keeping her guard up. The ghost that slipped away was scouting the area of potential threats. Lex started sifting through crystals opposite of Theo, inspecting each with a critical gaze before tossing the small ones aside and bagging the ones that looked like they fit the description.

She remained silent, as usual, while she worked. She wasn't one to freely offer more of herself than was required.

Lex stayed half a step behind Amor, peering over his shoulder as he swooned over the unknown tracks pressed in the firm terrain. Where he saw fascination (typical scientist), she saw a threat. The ex-beast sneered, her dark lips curling into something sharper than it should.

Lex watched the Dragapault slither away in shadow at their master’s behest. The Hisuian Zoroarak that stalked behind her looked for a command. She shook her head subtly, having the pokemon stay behind with them in case whatever made those footprints decided to pop out of the dense underbrush.

If there was a trail to find, Lex would have seen it. She's very observant like that, uncannily so. It came with the territory of her profession. She had to see things that weren’t there. Instead of looking around as prompted, she shoved one hand in the pocket of her leather jacket. The other tapped a pokeball on her waist expectantly, “You’re dead set on finding this thing, huh?” It seemed unavoidable. Stupid, but unavoidable.

She didn’t feel herself hit the ground, she was just suddenly there, with Tori on top of her. The rapid blinking of eyes cleared the mental confusion and with a suddenly burst, the pain of her head slammed against the ground overwhelmed her all at once, “Fuck’s sake,” she groaned, bucked beneath the Beckett to get her off.

When free, Lex sat up, rubbing the back of her head where a little welt was already forming. Had she lost her mind? The ex-beast’s amber gaze drifted back over to the edge and chilling realization ran down her spine, “Yeah, I think I did, actually,” she took Tori’s offered hand and stood up, brushing the dirt off her ass before she reached down to scoop up her own pack.

“I spent the night here once before,” Lex admitted, shrugging the backpack onto her shoulders, “But yes, better to be far away from here,” she could still hear the whispers in her head. She swallowed, abruptly turning away.

Lex began leading Tori away towards a jagged break in the horizon, “There’s a rock outcropping over there by the waterfall with some little alcoves. That’ll provide some protection,” With only two of them, the cliff face would acting as a third, someone watching their back, “About a kilometer or so, not too far.”

Theo’s logic is sound, she can’t argue that. She has one agenda, and he holds one piece of information key to the accomplishment of it. That made her an easy person to understand and, as he put it, rely on.

“Fair,” she agrees, shoving her hands in her pockets while she watches a shadow stretch out from below her and snap ahead of them as recon, “So, where do we find these Tera Crystals? They kinda look like . . . they’re everywhere,” are there special veins? Specific colors? The quicker they finished this the better.

The nimbly hops between the uneven stones, taking a short detour to perch on top of a little rock outcropping, giving her a better view of the terrain ahead. It didn’t help much, the large crystals were like a maze, obscuring them from seeing too far in along the path they traveled.

“Must be some pretty big risks then,” or else they would have just sent grunts, not an Underboss and an Ex-Beast, “Or these crystals are pretty valuable,” Lex lacks the knowledge associated with the Tera Crystals. She hasn’t found a use for them, quite yet.

She winds up back by Theo’s side, keeping pace, “Current Beasts don’t cut it?” If he needed her there was something very wrong. Lex was good, but not that good. She certainly had her weaknesses.
