such a reaction is expected but the guilt it brings isn't. it feels odd and out of place considering all she has done to him, to kyle lopez, and to the region, but the quiet of her voice is enough to evoke it from him.

his head shakes.

"that's not it."

but what's the point in trying to explain, he realizes, to a woman as stubborn as he is? should their roles be reversed, he doubts he would listen either.

rising to his feet, he lingers, unsure what to say or what to do. he decides on the truth.

because she's even more stubborn than he is, and nothing he can say now or ever will ever change what she thinks of him.

"but when you lose, know it was because of you."

she who condemned him to rot away in the corner of the world all because she can't see the bigger picture, blinded by her hate perhaps because it's like looking in a mirror, and that realization scares her.

so, for now, until otherwise called upon, he will remain as is and play the good little soldier he's meant to be. it just won't be in the war to come.
