he isn't sure what he'd do either if he was in the commissioner's shoes. not that he'd ever be there, though. there's be far too much outcry both internally and externally.

"i thought about retiring."

thought, not think, because that idea, while pleasant in theory, would be horrendous in practice because matias silph is not a man who simply sits around and does nothing. he is a man of action, addicted to the thrill of the fight because he has known nothing else.

"but i'm not sure. my time with the league may come to an end but i don't think i'll ever stop fighting. might just be fighting from behind bars, if that's what they decide."

because it confirms suspicions he's had even before his mind unraveled under the weight of groudon's influence. he knew there had to be a reason why Navy bothered him so much — it's because he seems a reflection of himself, different, but the core essence is there.

kanto haunts him the same way she so eloquently describes. his mind often wanders back to relive the fights to try and imagine what he should have done, if anything, to ensure kanto survived and that they won.

but they didn't — they failed then — but this is different and he needs her to know that.

"you didn't fail."

his head shakes in gentle defiance, challenging her words.

"i never wanted any of that to happen, you know. but the truth is, i didn't try to stop it from happening. i gave into my desires even if it ended up hurting the people i love, and i did it knowing i could use groudon as an excuse."
