“Math is the basis of science and music,” she replied – it was clearly a saying that had been drilled into her head at some point, in this case by a very demanding mother. That person had very much insisted that she would take that seriously, if nothing else.

And sadly, even though she wasn’t too fond of that woman’s tutelage overall, the lessons still persisted anyway. Stuff like that just could not be helped. But hey, she had gotten her message across in the end. “Or maybe ghost types are just created by the grief of humans and the latter project the attributes of their loved ones on them to feel better about it.” That probably was as bull an explanation as anything that she’d ever heard in that regard, but it very much made sense to her still.

After all, Eve was mostly interested in tangible, living things. Like the Deino and the girl. “Either way, I am Evette and the pleasure is all mine. Though your Chomper should stop with that before Prima gets angry.” The Primarina was very much watching the other with narrowed eyes, clearly ready to tell him off in some capacity, possibly a violent one, if necessary.

“Yes, yes, at best my pride might be hurt, not my body,” she replied as she tried to get back on her feet – which was then interrupted when the stranger suddenly ran up to her, scooped her up and carried her to the side.

That was….slightly unexpected. However, right as she was whisked through the cold and damp night’s air, she noticed a sharp, metallic whirring sound – right as a blade slashed through the air. It took her a moment to realize what had happened. But when she did, she inhaled sharply. This could have ended very badly, she realized, tensing up slightly.

Primarina had noticed, too, and rushed to her side. However, it was waylaid by a suddenly appearing Absol, which hit her with a Quick Attack. Thrown to the side, the Water Pokemon needed a brief moment to get her bearings again.
Then she furiously pounded the Absol left, right and center before that Pokemon keeled over. Certainly, the Primarina was not going to allow anyone or anything to get between her and her trainer, towards whose side she now rushed.

Eve, for her part, tried to get the man to let her down. “I am alright. A bit bedazzled maybe from that sudden attack….but I am fine, really.”

“I…guess. But that would still mean you are dead. And clearly, these Pokemon aren’t exactly behaving like humans anymore anyway, right?” She did not completely follow the other’s logic here. Even if a human turned into a Pokemon, it certainly was not that person anymore. It was not a continuation of existence in her eyes, so she still did not quite understand why it was of import.

Though what the other said afterwards to her Pokemon did shed some light on it. Apparently, this was about turning into a Pokemon… by quite some bad means. Well, the other assured that she was not going to take those. But that didn’t exactly seem too terribly convincing. “That is a terrible idea. I mean, aside from, well, dying, there is just math, you know? There are billions of humans but not quite as many ghost Pokemon. Even if ghost times were once humans, I don’t believe for a moment that we could just, well, turn anyway.” Eve nodded to herself, arms now crossed. This evidently was something she cared about in some capacity at least.

More fighting. But Primarina just continued to sing at ghosts, not wanting to actually fight but wanting to stop them in their tracks all the same. Doing anything aggressive in this place just felt wrong to her, so Prima simply continued doing what she could do, just serenading the Dusclops over and over until, eventually, it did fall asleep all the same.

Eve, in the meantime, got briefly worried, but found herself sighing in relief when the girl managed to overcome the situation on her own. That means she only had to contend with the other’s….idiosyncrasies. “Uhm, how do you ask them that? And why? I mean, I caught a few ghosts already, but I never really considered asking them anything about their past. It kind of just seems rude to me, I guess.” She briefly scratched her cheek due to something between embarrassment and confusion about this. [break][break]
Once again, she tossed her own Pokeball at the sleeping Pokemon, then returned to dragon-girl. “But why does that interest you so much? I mean, we do know that some Pokemon might have been humans in life, but what use would it be to know?”

The countryside had good acoustics? She perked up a little, hearing that. Frankly, given her classic education and her urbanized upbringing, she had never really considered that. Her world was concert houses, parlors, manors and, during recent travels, urban open areas and the like. She had not often tried the countryside. Sure, she often sang on her travels, too. But it was often difficult to hear herself during that properly, of course.

But she could imagine, now that she was listening to him and his little troupe. “I guess so. Singing without anyone to hear sometimes does feel like a waste. It is an art meant to entertain, after all. Just doesn’t feel complete without an audience to me.” Though that probably was due to her upbringing, too. Not that Evette would know. At the end of the day, she could not escape her nature. Or rather, was it her nurture?
Nature was the thing that drew in more Pokemon, which was rather interesting to watch and listen to. “Though I guess even out here in the wild, one can always find some kind of audience one way or another.”

There was a screech, then a swooping sound – clearly, a Pokemon was on the attack behind her. She had been on this journey for long enough to recognize the tell-tale signs of such. Alert, she thus turned, though she still moved, walking backwards. When in doubt, moving away from Pokemon assaults was probably for the best. Primarina, too, turned, though the Water Pokemon stopped instead, watching the fight incredulously. That was a difference between the two. And on first glance, it might have seemed like Eve was the more experienced and more efficient one.

But there was one problem with walking backwards while watching a fight in the opposite direction: a girl could not see where she was going. And thus, she missed a passing Inkay, stumbling straight over it, losing her balance and falling backwards into the mud, onto her butt.

Primarina, alerted, immediately turned and Sang, putting the small flying fish to sleep in a bit of a panic. The frantic Pokemon then ran towards her trainer, seeing if she was injured. Though Eve was more hurt in her pride, reaching down and getting a Pokeball, tossing it at the Inkay in an attempt to capture it. Then, she kind of sighed, feeling that she had just made a terrible first impression on the stranger now in front of her.

Admittedly, Eve did not get challenged a lot. Well, not anymore since the tournament had completed, after all. Mostly because she did not know that many people who would want to challenge her and not many people knew her. At least not for battling. Though her musical career had not completely taken off yet, either. Mostly because she was procrastinating by travelling Hoenn and fighting cute girls.

Then again, fighting and talking to cute girls was not exactly a bad life to live, so she accepted that anyway. This one was particularly cute, which Eve confirmed as she saw her on the beach again, despite the rather cool temperatures in general. Fortunately, it was already warm enough to bear these conditions well enough and make sandcastles.break]
Luka was wildly waving, which just made Eve smile. The Kalosian was certainly the kind of person who acted ‘smaller’ in certain ways, but they were still on the same wave-length in general it seemed. “The pleasure is all mine, Luka. Though I had not expected a return match so soon. Did you miss me?”

“It is a free country. Especially out here, in the countryside,” she replied with a wink. Certainly, she did not mind random people singing. At the very least not when they were any good at it. Granted, her standards were probably higher than most people’s, but they were not exactly absurd, either. Especially when those singing seemed like they were having fun. That was always the most important part anyway.

Primarina still had fun singing along, too. Only her singing made Pokemon that walked in from Eve’s side go to sleep. Which now involved a very, very surprised Charjabug. Eve kind of felt bad about this still. It was an ongoing problem with Primarina, really. But the Pokemon just looked happy doing it, so she could not bring herself to tell her not to. Instead she used another ball on the newcomer.
“Though it is nice to see that people are still having fun in ways like this. Most people I see being musical these days just can’t do it without filming themselves on their phones.” Ugh, just saying that made her feel so old. But it was true, still. Especially since she had been brought up on classical singing, of course.

It was strange how easily one could run into fellow Kalosians sometimes. Well, not extremely strange, in her opinion. They were both an adventurous and likable people. So it was only natural that they would run into one another.

Not that the woman in her yellow raincoat knew the other was Kalosian when she noticed him on the road. But she would probably find out soon enough. For now she, followed by her Primarina, simply continued on her path, giving him a court nod, should he stop to see her or something. He was taking longer strides than she was, after all, so he was sure to pass her at some point, if nothing else.

Her first ghost. Sounded kind of like it was supposed to mean this being the first of many. Which probably was fair to begin with. Lots of trainers had their themes and she could understand the appeal of ghosts. Especially when it came to people who were a bit….out there, to say the least. Which the cheerful young woman over there definitely was, in her opinion.

Not exactly a bad thing, of course. There was always a certain appeal to the more eccentric folks, as far as she was concerned. “Seems like it was more meaningful to you, of course. Congratulations indeed,” she replied, before having to hold her ears briefly when there was a loud screech. Her Primarina, feeling threatened, attacked the Bannette with a Pound – which went straight through it, instead hitting a passing Elgyem and knocking it down. Once Eve had sorted herself out, she through a ball at that one more as an apology, just in case it needed some healing. It was weird to think of it like that, she realized, but it made sense in her head.
“Seems like you are attracting more of them, though.”

A ghost, naturally, approached. However, it seemed that the odd person that had come here – who at least sounded like a girl but Eve did not want to make no assumptions in that regard – tried to talk to it. Honestly, Eve did not know what to make of it all and started to watch what eventually devolved into a fight there.

In the meantime, her Primarima, seeming slightly distracted, wandered off and instead sought out the little Hatenna, which was also watching the ensuing struggle. The two Pokemon communicated for a bit, until they exchanged moves they liked, it appeared. Hattenna sent out a Healing Wish and in return, Pirmarina sang for it. Only to then pout when the little fairy just fell asleep, seemingly at random.
That did get Eve’s attention, who had focused mostly on the now finished battle, and she sighed once more. Throwing a ball at the little one, she tried to get something out of that at least, before turning back towards the newcomer.

Though, admittedly, she didn’t really much know what to say. In the end, she had nothing good at all. “Well, that was a thing at least, I guess,” she half mumbled, suddenly no longer sure if she really wanted to say anything to a random stranger after all. Did seem slightly weird, really.

“It probably is,” she replied, tapping her lips. Naturally, she didn’t really know. When she had been invited to fundraisers in Luminose, there never had been exchanges in cash to begin with. Those were all about much larger sums coming from people rich enough to not carry money on their persons. A very different environment, really. However, given that she was down to one eclair, it seemed fine to call this a day in that regard. After all, she had already resolved to give that one to her partner in particular.

For now though, she simply handed the bag back. It had been entrusted to Georgie in particular, so she should return it, filled, too. “Hmmm, I think we can just start walking and pick whatever first feels right. At least that is what I usually do, relying on my intuition.” Evette added a laugh. After all, she was someone who followed her heart a lot of the time. And today it told her to hang out with this girl some more. “And as for my Pokemon, I don’t really specialize in anything I guess. There are a lot of Pokemon that I like and many that I don’t. Though, if I was put on a spot, I guess that I like Pokemon that are either a bit ‘out there’ and unique, or those that show some sort of elegance, like my Primarina.”
