If there was something useful that had ingrained into him—it was that there was a fine science between persuasion and outright coercion.

(While his blade itched to gut the poor League official’s ass, he held back. He had to curb the urge to release that bloodthirsty little monster inside him; so he would lead by example.)

Understanding the cue, he turned to dem and began in that quiet tone of his that he would adopt whenever the situation called for it, “Let’s try persuasion first. When they start to crack, then we lay on the pressure. But not just yet. We have to be subtle about this.”

Not everything was done with brute force in Kanto. The art of blackmail, when utilized to the fullest, would get the most amount of information in the least amount of effort expended, after all.

They were literally ‘flirting with danger’, so to speak—for their location was a little too close to one of the League’s known ‘strongholds’ despite Dewford being one of the most isolated populated areas in the entire region.

He would nod, seeing as they needed to be discreet here. Thankfully, the Rotom tablet that dey owned was capable of multiple things all at once.

“That’s alright,” he would begin quietly; hoping the Rotom tablet would pick up his voice and show it as text on the screen.

“We need to be discreet out here, considering we’re so close to a known League stronghold.”

Who knew what the hell was waiting across the water; but they were already here.

“Yes, that’s alright with the Metagross psychic link. As a heads-up though…” he would continue before a singular eye peered out from his own shadow.

“Yamato’s hiding there, so we have another pair of eyes watching out for us.”

And it was off into the deep end of the power spot they would go.

First on the extensive ‘shopping list’ of Pokémon he had to look for was a Dhelmise—which was the primary reason for him making today’s trip out here.

And what else would be waiting for him but the very Pokémon that he needed!

A soft whistle summoned his Doublade from his own shadow; watching stoically as the twin blades shone menacingly in the direction of the… was it a Grass-type? Kind of hard to tell from this distance.

A singular sharp note rent the silence; which caused the Doublade to charge forward; brandishing the metal as it released a Night Slash in the direction of the incoming Whirlpool that the Dhelmise had thrown their way.

There was no way he was going to get wet—a Shadow Ball would try to knock the Doublade out of thin air; only for an Aerial Ace to come screaming towards the unsuspecting Anchor Pokémon.

The first of the four Safari Balls would be thrown afterward.

“I’m amazed you can find the mental capacity to eat after what we went through just now,” he would muse quietly as he flicked his sword; he’d have to go through the motions of maintenance afterward.

Normally, anyone who’d gone through their first true attempt at snuffing out someone else’s life would either stare at a certain point like some catatonic moron, or otherwise make a break for it to throw up somewhere (hopefully unseen).

Were dey made of the tough stuff, then? Should that be the case, then he would have dem in high regard.

(Because nothing was absolutely worse than having dried blood on a sword that was frequently used for summary executions such as this!)

“But yes. I’ll take the break, if you’ll have me.”

There was a reason why he left the decision to dem, if he was going to be honest with himself.

Had he taken this training with someone else, he’d have used his own blade to go straight for the neck and hack the poor prisoner’s head off in a decapitation-style execution.

There was no way he would offer the mercy kill especially in the face of someone who was the avatar of what he (privately) personally considered to be a cosmic eldritch horror, going from the intel that he’d consumed while on the way back to Hoenn from Kanto.

He wondered if using his own personal weapon would be alright in this instance, since it was already hanging from where he normally wore the sword (today’s orientation happened to be by the waist, rather than on his back as he much preferred—even if it ruined the sheath that it came in).

The sword was already partway out from the sheath by the time he realized dey made the decision for the both of them.

Now, he was one who could say that he’d seen everything—having been trained under the Kanto-side of Team Rocket—it was a literal fight for survival out there.

The cold, clinical way that the prisoner had been taken in reminded him (ironically) of the same tactics that he’d survived through—stab first and ask questions later.

However, the ‘asking questions later’ part would never happen—at least that’s what he remembers from the harsh ‘everything’ that he’d endured back home.

“What’s your call?” he would ask dem quietly. With so little intel to go on; decisions had to be made at a split second—and then he belatedly realized that this was the God General they were dealing with.

…who was he to talk, he already had so much blood on his hands!

“I leave the decision to you.”

They were already in this too deep—there was no backing out of the challenge. While he was aware that the God General was an avatar, fact of the matter was that whatever… whatever Pokémon they were the avatar of was…

He couldn’t put it into words. That much was true.

Much tempted as he was to go with the Charlatan, they were already on that track—there was no more turning back!

“We’re not cowards, are we? We’re already here. Let’s see this through,” he continued with a quiet determination.

Despite him being trained back in Kanto, there was something else altogether with receiving training from the Hoenn-side Rockets—although, he believed that some of the other trainers may have been a little too soft.

He wasn’t sure if… was he seeing things on Beast Neon’s body; unless he had to blink a few times and make sure he wasn’t hallucinating—

He’d heard the rumors of the ‘god general’ while back in Kanto, how bad would this be?

“Determined not to get embarrassed this time?” he would confirm der way; sword on his back at the ready. Man, he was itching for some up-close and personal melee combat…

His Doublade and Meganium were… well, they proved to be little match against an Elite Four member; however thankfully there was backup ready to come save them—

Maybe they’d gotten in over their heads a little too much?

“That was embarrassing, but make no mistake—those Elite Four members are in a class all on their own,” he would remark once they’d managed to get out of the particularly hairy situation.

(That came with a lifetime side of vicious mockery, but that was neither here nor there, at least for now!)

“At least we know what to avoid… should we ever run the same scenario again,” he added.

There was one good thing about having been gone for three years—memories tended to forget who came through what place, and when.

(Honestly, had he been here before? It had been such a long time ago, he’d forgotten. Maybe he had, maybe he hadn’t.)

Important fact of the matter was that there were some Pokémon in the Safari Zone right now that were a priority—he had things to build and needed material to construct it with!

Once he’d gotten the four Safari Balls from the warden, he would stroll inside—feeling just a little odd because there was no sword hanging from his side.
