Slateport's harbor was a liability. It was a tangled mess of well-maintained plankways, coiled ropes, and a port-authority that was dramatically understaffed by Rockets. In fact, one of the faces was an ex-rocket. A woman by the name of Sarah Parker.

It was one thing to be League, but quite another to be an defector. Even if she hid under a desk the rest of her life, Sarah's skull was still packed with faces. She was a liability.

Bill strode down the sunset dock, heading for the port office. It was Sunday, and Sarah would be inside, chatting with her colleagues in her shallow, brittle voice. She had a knack of sounding like she was going to burst into tears at any moment.

Are you ready? Bill asked. There was a microphone hidden in his badge of Articuno, sending his words across the harbor to where ryuuzaki amemiya and Tempest Quinn would be in position to start the distraction. Unlike Sarah they were loyal to Rocket, dependable, and would still be breathing at 8pm.

Bill emerged from the shadows like he was stepped onto a yacht. Ahead there was a man, his contact, and a Luxray. The creature was glorious, sharp eyed, and with a coat like a thunderhead. The Luxray was beautiful too. "And that makes you Pryde," Bill said, extending a hand. "But please, call me Father. Or Bill, if you'd prefer."

Munna floated a foot behind Bill, trailing pungent smoke. "I saw plenty of surveillance equipment on my way here. Cameras, trip-sensors for foot traffic. Tide markers." The League had the caves wired. But why? Was it the standard bureaucratic information sucking, or were they eyeing the limestone tunnels with purpose. Either way they had to go. "So what are you thinking? What's the plan, Pryde?"

"Thanks for the offer," Bill said, "I'm in the process of rebuilding my contacts in Sootopolis, and it's always good to have a Rocket next door." He'd visited Cillian Quinn 's lab briefly, and darkened some of the caves with Raphael Pryde . Having an easily accessible safehouse in the city would be invaluable with some of the work he was planning. "Would you mind showing me the place some time? I'd love to see what Rocket has been doing with all the cash I've been sending back."

"The courtyard? It sounds perfect."" Bill said. He turned the way Giona indicated, and started walking, leading the conversation away from the foyer. Bill took the lead, in a way that gave Giona room to direct him as they went. "A place with no clear purpose that connects us all," Bill said, paraphrasing the young Rocket. He nodded, teeth gritting in a breakneck smile. A central artery. It sounds perfect

"Hey. Do you have an assignment yet, or can you hang out for a bit?”

"I'm a money man," Bill explained. "I've run the Church of Arceus in Sinnoh for the last 12 years, funding the Kanto campaign, and plenty of the works here in Hoenn."

There was well-earned pride in Bill's voice. He had poured his soul into the Church, and had reshaped his life and self in that distant, mountainous land. He'd shot the man he used to be, and buried any thoughts of the family he'd left behind. And what did he have to show for it? An innumerable wealth, a indomitable self, and a thriving Rocket. He couldn't be happier.

"I'm running the Church in Sootopolis now," Bill said. He looked around the stained foyer. "There used to be a little shrine in the old rocket building actually. Maybe I could set up a little something here on the sub. Though we do already have a bar."

“Father. Good to see you.”

For a moment Bill mistook her for a civilian. Just another partying local enjoying the bar and blazing sun. Her hat was delightful, as well as functional, and there was a flare of fashion that was often missing in the punkish or utilitarian dress of a Rocket.

Her smile gave her away. It was too well practiced. Most people smiled shyly, or too enthusiastically, as if they were afraid of showing true enjoyment. Not her. Her smile was too wide. Too sharp and predatory to be anything but a weapon.

Holy shit.
He couldn't wait to be inside those teeth.

"And it's wonderful to meet you," Bill said. He let the words linger, waiting for his partner to fill the space. "Is it just the two of us today?"

Bill wore a spotless polo, beach slacks, and deck sandals. He looked like the kind of man that had been hit with a divorce settlement and come out the other side with both houses, the yacht, and zero custody.

"Rocket paperwork is always the worst," Bill says, relatably. He took the sunglasses off his head and slid them down into the v-neck of his shirt. "They never change it though. In a few years you'll have the boxes memorized and you'll be able to get it done in twenty minutes tops."

He headed for the open bar, intending to grab a sparkling water. Instead, the fridge is full of Dr. Pika. A welcome surprise, as not many sodas were caffeine free these days. "I'm not waiting for transfer papers though," he clarified, looking for a clean glass. There were none, so he washed one. Thankfully there was ice. He picked the most transparent pieces and dropped them into his glass. "It was actually paperwork for the local government."

Bill listened. He could just make out the sounds of creaking springs, slapping flesh, and groans of deep pleasure. Either it was people fucking, or it was a sadistic Rocket grunt beating his bunkmate with a pogo stick.

Nodding his agreement, Bill followed the sound around the walls. They went back along the length of the shower twice before finding the spot. "Here," Bill said, placing his hand against a section of wall. "It's coming from the other side. What room is on the other side?"

The final shower is empty too. And clogged. "Or did you think Father was a religious title?"

"I've got an assignment, but I can hang." Bill replied, looking his latest questioner up and down. The styles in rocket sure had changed in the last decade, but he was willing to bet that the people here were almost the same, even if the whole setup was underwater now.

Bill caught a whiff of the man he was talking to. Blood, chocolate, alcohol and coffee. Yep. Same old Rocket, he thought with a smile. "I'm just waiting for paperwork to go through, actually. I've got all the time in the world."

"What, fucking?" Bill asks, genuinely shocked. "Beckett Arceus isn't some ancient prude, he's the God of creation. And nothing has created more drama, pleasure, tears, children or wars than fucking."

Night shift. And not just a standard patrol either. According to the reports of his capable colleagues there was something in the walls. Creaking cupboards, footsteps down empty halls, laughter that might have been the wind, or maybe it was just the wind.

"Sounds like a ghost," Bill said point-blank. There was no point beating around the bush. "Strange noises, feelings of dread, and someone even complained of a cold spot. Is this sort of thing common on the sub?"
