“COME JOIN ME, MY SON.

JOIN ME IN THE HARD EMBRACE OF ARCEUS' TEN THOUSAND HANDS.”
Bill pulled aside the rubber mat, undid the inset lock, and opened the trapdoor. Musty air seeped out of the cavern below, filling the basement with the scent of rot and salt. It was ocean air, trapped and stagnant.

He stepped down onto the ladder, closed the trapdoor behind him, and descended into the unlit cavern. Leanne floated below him, shining anemic pink moonlight from her eyes. Bill stepped down onto the floor of the cavern, his sandaled feet sinking into the packed sand.

"Ah, this takes me back," Bill said, pulling out a map and compass. The map was from his contact in the Sootopolis town planning committee. It was an overlay of a city map, showing the areas of the underground tunnels that were currently monitored by the city. Based on Bill's knowledge of the tunnels from his youth, the city had mapped about a third of the area. Far too much.

Bill pulled out a compass, checked some markings on the walls, and headed off Eastward, towards the meeting place with his Rocket contact.

"I thought it important for you to know this is here, should you ever require shelter from the League."
"Reminds me of the old family home," Bill said, looking around fondly. He breathed in a lungful of ocean breeze. Down here on the beachfront the air was thicker, more real. Full of salt and coconut.

Bill's Minccino, Laurence, padded behind the pair. The pristine white Pokemon gazed up at the towering walls. Its eyes were wide, unblinking, never missing a thing. "My new place is up in the hills, in Alta Mista," Bill said, pulling a book off one of the bookshelves. He ran his hand down the spine, nodded, and slipped it back into its spot. "It's smaller than the manor, but there's no blonde kids running around any more."

He wondered about Gavin. The man looked tired enough to be a recent father, but something told him this house had never had kids in it. A combination of the pristine white walls and the lack of sentimental knickknacks.

"I appreciate the concern, my friend," Bill said, as the pair headed downstairs. "Though if I find myself here things will be very serious. I'm not one to get caught. I've been with rocket for over twenty years and look at me!" he gestured sweepingly at his pristine clothes, his unblemished skin. His Minccino, which had followed them down the stairs, looked like he had been bleached and blow-dried that morning. "I'm still clean."

Bill's new house was right beside his old house: at the peak of Sootopolis overlooking the bay. "You get a fresh, ocean breeze, and a prime view of the beaches," Bill said, pointing out the bathers splashing in the surf.

"You surf Rowan?" Bill asked, though his eyes asked something very different. "It's great for the core," he added, putting one hand on his own flat stomach. "Guy like you probably uses your core a lot."

He wandered away from the balcony and into the kitchen, immensely comfortable in his brand new house. It had only been a day, but for Bill comfort came from familiarity, and nothing was more familiar than control. Bill set two glasses of Dr. Pika and ice on the marble counter and beckoned Rowan over with a look. They stood, not sitting, just two good looking guys wearing sandals, one with socks.

"Now Rowan, I was told you could help me get back into the swing of things in the city. Bring me up to speed."

Bill hummed and hawed, and finally picked out a pastel blue polo. It was branded, of course, and bore a stitched image of Lars and his Articuno. He looks just like I did. Bill thought, a slow, proud smile spreading across his face. He even grew into that hair! Who'd have thought he'd get so handsome?

Bill unbuttoned his shirt right at the counter and pulled on the new polo. It fit perfectly.

"He's my son, you know," Bill said to the woman at the counter. "I can show you how he was made, if you'd like?"
