the littlest wayland picked her smaller leaf off the ground, having somehow kept track of which one, and held it up again, as though to say, ”look. i still have it. i kept it safe.”

another line pulled taut, and she stood from where she'd been readying delta's smaller fishing rod. she took it from where it'd been secured at the edge of the boat, and reeled in the huntail, careful as it was raised from the water.

this time, she handled removing the hook, and delta cast her line out.

sagira only eyed him with a ’you better’ kind of look. there was a tinge of softness to it, only because it was matias—but they weren’t the most well off. single mother at the bottom of the rung, and all. to have a famous silph stumble in and drink up her daughter’s stash had been pretty annoying.

but he’d placed an offer before that she was finally going to take him up on today, which would hopefully improve their situation.

delta’s eyes were gleaming blue saucers, making up in some amount for the perpetual seriousness of her face. no smiles, only dire curiosity and determination. she nodded affirmatively.

sage still watched, hands in her pockets, wondering if virizion would show despite the people gathered on the boardwalk. it was still early in the morning. the crowd was small, kept to mostly those running the booths.

and then they had two fish. this was more than plenty to eat on, but for the fun of competition, and an opportunity to bolster delta's survival skills, they continued.

delta held the bleeding lanturn in both small hands and plopped it into a bucket. sage frowned at the cloud of red which gushed.

"try to be more careful with the hook next time." 

sage turned and cast the line again, before going to work setting up a smaller rod. things had been biting too quickly to sit down with it.

a small basculin was still plenty for dinner, but they hadn't only come out here in search of food. they'd come out for the competition.

fishing was something they were plenty good at and accustomed to. it just usually wasn't fishing on the ocean. delta had never been, and was in awe as they sped out into slightly deeper waters than she was used to. their passimian sat at the edge of the boat, enjoying the breeze that ruffled its fur.

once sage was satisfied by how far they'd gone out, they stopped and dropped anchor. she watched for signs on the surface, soon casting out a line that delta had already baited.
