Even the most dark and seemingly dangerous of places can't quite escape the winds of a new year. Despite everything that has gone on in Sootopolis over the past year, she can spy the streets beginning to fill with little decorations and lights. Kids craft the frames of lanterns to be released on the beach at night, families cooking their best dishes and inviting each other over for dinners. At times, she's joined in on the fun, teaching the kids next door how best to weave their bamboo strips to form a sturdy structure. But she's been holding back a lot more, getting tired far quicker than usual and needing more time to herself.[break][break]

Which is probably why she makes this little trip through the town by herself, accompanied only by the ever-trusty Espeon, Dianthus. She greets familiar faces and offers them a smile, but she never quite lingers as she hurries on down to the water's edge with a small bag in hand.[break][break]

When she reaches her destination, all she hears is the gentle crashing of waves, the soft crunch of sand beneath her shoes. It's peaceful, quiet for now until the sun brushes past the edges of the horizon.[break][break]

Never in her life had she thought that she'd be out looking for a classmate she wasn't even that close to. Something about their disappearance had circulated through the usually gossipy class chat that she kept on mute, little rumours about how she had some secret meetings with a man just yesterday and hadn't been heard from since. Now, she'd usually leave such things to the groups of besties to sort out or simply wait for them to resurface within another few hours, but this kind of behaviour just wasn't something that anyone would expect of Amy.[break][break]

Well, neither were the page long rants about her parents that she had begun to drop in the girls-only chat as of late.[break][break]

Just goes to show that even the smartest of people can make the strangest choices in the name of... love? Mystery? Intrigue? Maybe she was facing huge amounts of pressure from her parent's side and decided to run?[break][break]

That really sounds like some kind of plot right out of the many romance novels she reads.[break][break]

Of course, to even start offering her assistance, she'll need a few more leads on the case. So there she is in the middle of a rather crowded fish market, her Espeon slinking right by her side as she tries to pick any familiar face out of the crowd. And she does! Kind of - She spies someone else waving around a picture of the exact same person she's looking for.[break][break]

Maybe they know something she doesn't?[break][break]

Sidling on over, she takes the empty spot available, peeking at the photo just to make sure she hasn't made a mistake.[break][break]

"She's been having a whole secret meeting situation with a guy that no one else knows much of. Seemed kind of upset with her parents, the last I heard of her. Are you the mystery guy she's been meeting with or something?"

Magical concoctions of ancient times, made from various herbs, leaves and grains of green-type pokemon. Told to be a rather miraculous cure of all sorts of illnesses if drunk during the new year. To anyone, it might seem like some old wife's tale that the mother's tell to get kids to drink all sorts of healthy things but even that small bit of belief is enough to have people hankering after such a cure.[break][break]

A small grunt of frustration catches her attention, the brief glimpse of a flicking purple tail telling her more than what she needs as she bites back a laugh.[break][break]

"Keep looking, Dianthus... Maybe they're hiding under the snow?"[break][break]

The Espeon sighs in response, kicking up bits of powdered snow as she turns around once more and begins digging.

For the briefest of moments, she stops fidgeting, as if making a single move would put her in danger. Silence sits between them as she contemplates how best to put her answers forth, but time ticks away without a care for her.[break][break]

"There was a fire in Oldale." She winces at the very words that she speaks. "They needed help clearing the place up..."[break][break]

Lie, justify, wriggle her way out of this. Dance around the truth and ignore the problems festering underneath.[break][break]

"The fires were put out. I just... stayed for a little too long."

Even if Amaryllis can't bare to look him in the eyes, she still sees enough to catch the frown. And she flinches from the way he phrases his question, gnawing on her bottom lip as she grips her book tighter.[break][break]

She can sense the disappointment and worry leaking from Dianthus.[break][break]

"The doctors said I'll be fine after a few days of rest."[break][break]

It happens when she least expects it, that final trip that sends her falling to her knees. But this time, she can hear her heart pounding in her chest, struggling to keep up as her breathing grows heavy. Her legs feel far too weak for her to get up again, her vision dotting with darkened spots as she tries to stay in a sitting position by leaning on her arms.[break][break]

"D- Dia..." She murmurs, giving the Espeon an apologetic grimace. "Call... Killian..."[break][break]

And the world goes horribly dark.

The topic of parents feels sour upon her tongue, so she chooses to brush it away, trying to avoid taking a deep breath as she busies her hands. There's no way she understands what's going on in that ranger's head and some part of her questions if she really should try to pry.[break][break]

In fact, should she even be worrying about such things when she's barely managing to keep her focus? When Kaida mentions taking a break, Dianthus is the first to tug at her sleeves, pulling her away from the smoking mess with desperate mewls.[break][break]

"Y- yeah... I uhm... think a break would be nice." And she barely puts up a fight, almost tripping over her own feet as she follows along.

When the door opens, there's a loud hiss, sharp fangs bared as an Espeon rears up. But then she sees Loveless, her demeanor quietening down as she rushes up to rub against her. There's almost no other noise save for the beeping of a heart monitor, the soft rustling of paper between shaky fingers.[break][break]

"Killian..." It's a weak smile that greets him, her gaze lacking that usual shine. Her right hand shifts, hiding the catheter taped to her wrist. "Just a bit woozy, but nothing too bad!"

It's exactly because humans are good at lying that Rocket may get blamed for everything, the thoughts cross Amaryllis' mind but she's starting to lack the concentration to piece it together. She senses that her partner has probably been scalded by the organisation in some way - Perhaps, they've killed her pokemon. She really wouldn't be too surprised if that turned out to be the case.[break][break]

In fact, the only reason she's only seen Rocket's relatively good side is because Killian has been making them keep their distance from her. But even he warns her about the evils in the organisation, even he has fear for what she has yet to see.[break][break]

"Dianthus..." Her voice quivers as she tries her best to lift a fallen wooden frame to little avail. The Espeon is quick to drop whatever she's shifting, darting over to her trainer's side and barking sharply at her as she takes over the heavy-lifting. And as Amaryllis is left to watch the silhouette of her companion shift away with the frame, she finds her mind wandering.[break][break]

"Rocket... may hurt my pokemon, but so have other people... unaffiliated... just a few unsettled things with my parents..." There's barely any air for her to breathe without the back of her throat burning. "The day that they hurt Dianthus... I cried waiting for the doctor to come back out... I thought she might die."

Rocket... Her gaze dulls as she continues to work at the fields, a frown tugging at her lips as she thinks of her brother. How would Killian Decker think of this mess? Had he ordered this attack? Or were those around him responsible for this?[break][break]

"They're... not all bad..." She murmurs, failing to meet the eyes of the other. "If they really are trying to be peaceful like they said... it might not be them that started it..."

She shouldn't be here, her heart murmurs as she lets out a cough. Dianthus looks concerned, her tail flicking from side to side as she yowls for Amaryllis to leave. But having come across such a horrid scene, her conscience tells her that she can't simply leave this be.[break][break]

"Yeah... uhm..." Her words are limited, she should avoid breathing the smoke in as much as she can. The smell of charred crops makes her nauseous as she kneels down to reach for them, plucking out whatever she can manage. On the other hand, her Espeon helps with bursts of Psychic, moving fallen vine supports and burnt scarecrows out of the way.[break][break]

Why would anyone do such horrible things?
