”Oh… Do you think we look alike?” Lia asks Cade Atreides with genuine curiosity when she assumes that her and Aidan Hereford must be related. She doesn’t see it, honestly. But, then again, it’s not like she has any brothers to serve as a comparison point.

Regardless, it’s kind of funny, isn’t it?

”We’ve never met before, no, but it’s really nice to meet you regardless, Aidan.” Over the sound of Teravolt's music, she smiles at the man of ashen hair and then turns to look at their other companion. The smile remains upon her lips, gaze meeting his. ”And you, Cade.”

Lia had not expected to end up meeting new people, but it would seem as if surprises never end. Hoenn always has a way to defy people’s expectations, does it not? This is something that, as a historian, Lia knows well. Then again, it's not like it's a bad thing in this case. Perhaps making new acquaintances is the best possible way to cope with everything that has been happening. Meet new people, make happy memories...

Hoenn really feels like defying expectations today.

Before she can even finish her sentence, a familiar crackling fills the air, and above them, the dark membrane of a distortion spreads, surrounding the area.

”Shit… We need to get out of here.” As if on cue, strange pokémon begin to appear, and be it due to her ranger training or innate reflexes, Lia is quick to act. From an Ultra Ball, a Decidueye is released, SPIRIT SHACKLE binding an unusual Goodra headed straight for the trio. The bird dives down there and then, talons closing into a deadly SUCKER PUNCH.

But, something is not right. While in the air, the Decidueye begins to change, and by the time it returns to Lia’s side, it looks different.

”...Ju?”

The distortion had changed the avian pokémon, and apparently it’s all too aware of that, for in its talons it holds a RED SHARD that it soon offers to Lia.

Malasadas taste good, the sand after failing yet another MAGIKARP SPLASH does not. When had her life come to this? The sweet and delightful taste of custard is quickly replaced by that of saltwater, and Lia hates it.

He really is sweet, isn’t he? While Lia may be oblivious to the way @marshall blushes when telling her he enjoys talking to her, dismissing it as the effects of the sun, she’s more than aware of the rosy hues that warm up her cheeks when hearing such a thing.

Her attention turns to her fishing rod, to the line, to the water, to anything but him.

”Ha… I’m glad to hear that. I really like spending time with you too, Marshall. We should hangout more often.”

She tries to be casual about it, but it feels awkward. Like if she were no more than an inexperienced teenager once more. Time has passed, but she sure hasn’t gotten any better with these sorts of things, has she? She has never been any good at it.

Thankfully, Marshall is quick to change the subject to that of food, and just as he does, her reel begins to spin too.

”Oh! I did, actually! I figured we’d get hungry out here eventually.” What she reels in is a Mantine. Go figure. It’s like the universe itself is mocking her or something. With a sigh that comes closely followed by a self-deprecating chuckle, Lia works on releasing the Kite Pokémon. ”I made some sandwiches, they’re in my bag. They’re like… not amazing or anything, though. I’m not exactly the best cook out there.”

Far from it, actually, but simple club sandwiches are something even she can do just fine (while following an online recipe, but of course she won't say that). Still, better to have Marshall manage his expectations, right?

"Fuuuuck, that tastes so good." She had been right: nothing tastes better than free food, especially when enjoyed after enduring a whole lot of frustration. Sitting on her Mantine, she pats the pokémon while her other hand holds a half-eaten malasada. "Custard! How about you?"

Yet, it's almost as if the malasadas are gone in an instant, and soon enough, Lia finds herself watching as angelo vestri tries another trick... successfully this time.

"Damn! Look at you, flyboy. Maybe the Malasadas were good luck."

Lia says it with certainty, as if there is no doubt in her mind that this is her game to win. In truth, she’s just playing, because as much as she may have the advantage as of right now, she is not nearly confident enough to let her ego blind her to the fact that that could change quickly enough. Who knows what kind of gargantuan monster Marshall might reel in next?!

Her own catch this time is a Huntail, one that is not particularly large. It does have a temper, though, and while she’s busy attempting to free it from the hook for the sake of letting it back into the waters, it does try to bite her.

”That’s not very nice of you, you know?” She chides, talking to the fish, yet her tone is as calm as it is amused, and there’s even a soft chuckle. Once the Huntail is back in the ocean and her line is cast once more, Lia turns back to look at Marshall.

”Thanks for coming with me today, by the way. This is much more fun than what it would have been if I had been on my own.”

Even if it’s still just fishing, talking to him may just make all the difference in the world.
