Paxton is redirected. Wandering from guard to guard as he attempts to find the woman of the hour before it's show time. He scans the crowd, focusing on bright red hair before spotting her nearby interacting with a woman who he's partially familiar with (DESIREE BLOOMS ). And her friend (Yuina Higashi ) ? Plus one? He catches the tail end of her introduction and nods to himself, giving the young woman a once over to commit to memory. [break][break]

Before he approaches he spots Elise Calcifet and smiles and waves, happy to see the ambassador active after such a troubling time. He also noted Noel Parker and also gave a nod remembering his efforts in battle, only to watch the man leave. Paxton offered Elsie a sympathetic frown before interrupting the women around Penelope. [break][break]

"Councilwoman PENELOPE LIVY . I'm glad I caught you before your big conference." he said, smile easy as he made his presence know. He then turned to the other two and introduced himself. "And good morning to you as well. paxton concordas , deputy director for accountability and intel." he explained. First with Desiree where he noted, "Ms. Blooms, one of our newest gym leaders I hear." he said with a small nod, his voice low as he shook her hand if allowed to. "I look forward to working with you in the future. Feel free to reach out to your colleagues or myself if the transition from Minor to Major gym leader troubles you." [break][break]

With that he'd turn his discerning eyes to Yuina, the same easy smile and practiced charm. Something he could only really pull out of his ass for these few minutes amongst company and then had to retire for hours into his office to recover. "Good to meet you as well, Ms. Higashi. I've heard a bit about the HOME project, and I'm excited to see your progress. Head Ranger ollie morales is is a wealth of experience for any up and coming ranger." Disagreements or not, he was Head Ranger for a reason. [break][break]

"I had the priviledged of working alongside him in my brief career as a ranger and corps liaison." he added before finally turning back to Penelope. "When you have a moment ma'am, I have something to go over with you before your speech." he said. His way of asking to talk to her, but no rush at all really!

It's a near perfect day for the address. Paxton hadn't noticed, having been chained to the League's HQ for meeting after meeting. Coordination on PROJECT SAPPHIRE's restructuring, meeting after meeting with departments for investigation updates, and even a couple of notable reports of citizen opinions swaying or changing. A protest here and there. Things he would synthesize for PENELOPE LIVY later. [break][break]

He'd almost forgotten the time for her conference, meaning to watch it in his office if he had the time to mill and work at the same time. It's while he finished off a quick report delivery to dahlia goode that he's reminded of her event. Their discussion was over early and if he hurried he had enough to get back to his office and TELEPORT over nearby Slateport. [break][break]

Hopper was more than delighted, eager to help him travel. They arrive a block away from the Conference, careful not to show up behind perimeter lines. He follows the flow of the crowd, suit jacket draped over his arm as his Porygon hovered over him like a quest icon. He greets the first guard with ease, pulling out his badge for inspection before asking for entry. It works the first time. And the second time. But by the third time, when he's nearing more closed off areas, the call goes out to their head of security, Gunner Graves . [break][break]

"Officer Concordas is up front, requesting entry through gate 4, section B."

Paxton waited, handing a small treat over to his Porygon as the radio traveled through. [break][break]

There's a brief silence before the guard hands him a radio. Paxton checks in quick, not wanting to distract for too long. [break][break]

"Cassidy here. Waiting to see our girl before her big speech, just in time. After, whatever you need from me Lancer I'm free to help." He waits for a response before handing back the ear piece. [break][break]

Given clearance, he'd continue forward looking for PENELOPE LIVY . He passes Kyrenai Black , but notes she's not near Penny. "Good to see you." he said quickly as he passed through, heading backstage to steal a moment from his councilwoman before she had her big moment on stage. It'd been a while since she'd been on television after all. Hopefully, the ex reporter wasn't too rusty. [break][break]

He's intrigued by the lost souls that rise up, even more so when DYNAMAX puts a magnifying glass against their features. He wants to study them, but he resists the urge to be distracted. They were gigantic. And they just be quarantined. Thank the gods they were stuck in the desert. Armed with his goggles and his partner he tries to keep the sand out of his mouth with a thick bandana. "They look familiar, but lets not underestimate them!" he said to the group. He knew he could trust Elise Calcifet and Josh Devlin to be on their guard. Remiel Calcifet however...the most combat they'd done together was an RKS. And it'd been a rather silent one. But he'd been a formidable battler even before leaving Rocket. [break][break]

He did nothing to deescalate the situation. Instead he thinks of the trainee badge and holds back the urge to take it with him. But he's got something more important to do. He doesn't even look at her, texting annalise henderson that he'd spoken to June and hopefully she'd be coming to see her soon. And also not to worry and rest up. [break][break]

"By all means, keep feeling sorry for yourself and roll in your own shit, but don't you dare drag Anna down to your level." He doesn't have to get loud to make his point. Joules beeps, moving closer to Paxton's side as he gets ready to leave. Getting screamed at by people who simply wanted to be a victim wasn't anything new. It was common on the beat, and it was even more common in government unfortunately. But at the very least, he could tune it out now that he'd finished his task. The drone in June's voice enabling a better disassociation. [break][break]

He doesn't bother answering as it would just be him repeating something June hadn't bothered paying attention to. Paxton's grimace only deepens as she continues talking. "You wouldn't have needed to if you had just listened to annalise henderson , a Ranger Captain with far more combat experience." he said, keeping his composure despite the spiteful glare he cast upon June as he spoke of his friend. His knuckles white as he suppressed the rage. "It's reckless to be so arrogant about your own abilities that you not only jeopardize yourself but my own friend." he stated. "You can't even hold a pistol which I doubt you have a permit for. Much less handle a knife against two seasoned Rockets." [break][break]

His fist flies to her collar, faster than anyone can blink, and he crumples up simple cloth in a steel grip yanking the delivery woman close, memorizing the face of the bitch that'd almost gotten his friend killed. "Anna's hurt because you couldn't listen to her. Because you overestimated yourself. She didn't need to tell me herself, I read the report myself." he snarled, not even flinching as the woman resisted. "For whatever gods forsaken reason, she wanted to protect you, because she knew you were at fault for all of this." [break][break]

Annalise had been cagey during his hospital visits. He figured he understood when he met June. Luckily for her, all mention of Rocket protecting her hadn't appeared in the report Anna submitted up to HQ. No doubt it'd saved the delivery woman from instant interrogation. "Get your shit together, and learn how to work as a team. You're trying to be a ranger aren't you?" he shoves her back, not caring for the answer. [break][break]

"She's been moved to recovery unit in Petalburg General Hospital. Room 469. Go see her. It's the least a fuckin' dumbass civvy like you could do for her." he said, imitating June for a moment before looking over at Joules. [break][break]

"This is nothing." Paxton returned, quick and almost effortlessly. His breathing controlled, with tight inhales of air through his nose and silently back out his mouth. His foot lands in the sand with a soft thud, unintentionally kicking up grains and rubbing harshly on his callouses. But if it bothered hi, he didn't notice as he threw himself into the next movement for a counter. [break][break]

With her backing up he pushes the attack, hands up and fists loose in front of his face as he moves to throw a straight jab into the side of her stomach. The movement is fast, attempting to bring his fist back in quick to remain defensively in front of his face before the other fist goes flying at her nose. [break][break]

Alert with their terrain set up, Joules doesn't try to dodge or pull back this time. Instead the Magnezone charges up a FLASH CANON, intent on meeting the MOONBLAST full force. They doubt it'll cut through the Altaria's attack but curiously enough it doesn't see to care. As the attack fires off, Joules rushes into the explosion as it waits to use the smoke and sand as cover for it's next attack. [break][break]

He doesn't hate mila alexopoulos . She's not Rocket. Hadn't been. And it's hard to say he hated someone he'd been so at ease with before knowing her past. As stubborn as Paxton wanted to be. But with Gunner, he could be a little honest. [break][break]

So when he says he's in love, Paxton isn't angry or disgusted. Just...awkward. His experience with love is minimal. Though luciano fisk comes to mind, it's hard to talk about too. In a way, Gunner is braver than him. "Ah." the realization is soft. Made sense. There had to be a good reason Gunner had gotten so emotionally erratic around him. Paxton was the type to internalize. But Luci? Luci also had gone off on him a few, terrifying times. [break][break]

"Have you told her?" Surely he has. Surely it's just the strain on their friendship that makes the agent before him reluctant. "You've...loved her for a long time. Right?" the feels like its making his tongue fuzzy. Like he's allergic.

Her answers are confusing. He doesn't really know what to make of them just yet. But it was something he'd mull over in the coming days. She assures him of their mutual destruction. Not just his, all of Hoenn's and her.

At this point in time, he has no idea any source of power that can combat her. A shot to the head would be ideal, but that would be a lucky shot at best. So much preparation, and intelligence needed to set up a shot like that. No, her death would have to be more direct, regrettably.

RUINATION.

He hums tiredly at the word. He imagined, much like the prophecies before it, RUINATION could be a variety of different things. Each ore devastating and life changing than the last. But in every scenario, he had to hope, someone would survive. Maybe not hi. Definitely not her. But some one.

And that'd make the deliverers of RUINATION, the losers in the end.

He snorts at the title of his end. Maybe he'd try again another time. He's still not quite finished picking RVL for clues.

Just like the myths. But he doesn't dig into it any further. Groudon was pacified, for now. Hopefully for the rest of Matias' tenure as its avatar.

"You mean a distrust for the League?" he arched an eyebrow at his friend, unwilling to let this go without further understanding. Elisabeth had been dangerous. She'd also managed to tap into something that under Groudon's influence, had been all the more stronger. Doubts against dahlia goode maybe? He couldn't agree with all her decisions, but it didn't mean he doubted her. She simply trusted more than Paxton could. But what was a leader without vision?

"You did." he agreed, eyes darkening with a mix of frustration and worry as he looks to the ground. He sighs through his nose before adding. "Hopefully, it's a mistake you can fix. But it'll take time, and effort. Even with Groudon affecting you in ways we hadn't thought of before, a lot of people will see what you did instead of who you are."

Paxton couldn't change that. Matias had done something heinous. Consorting with the enemy? Emotional catharsis or not, the region would see it as another E4 getting their dicks wet.

"The incident- PRIMEVAL, has made a stronger case for psychoanalyzing avatars. After what you mentioned Groudon was doing to you, me and a few others have been pushing for more tests, more often, to make sure this doesn't happen again."
