The aftermath of the GALAR incident had been rough. Most, if not everyone who remembered something from their joint hallucination had been showing signs of stress and a strange grief. Paxton felt it too. Though he didn't remember specifics anymore, the dream fading as it should've been, save for the wedding band he kept on a chain under his shirt. [break][break]

It'd been chaotic, safe to say. Before and after. The beasts were gone. The dogs were missing. The work on his desk picking up. But he finds the time to do one last thing before he gets wallowed up by work. [break][break]

He doesn't know how much longer he can take whiteout seeing her. So asks for permission, has a long discussion with dahlia goode 's representatives, and sighs in relief when he's allowed another visit. [break][break]

"Eris?" he knocks three times on the door of their safe house. He's a little late, coming in after cutting out of work early. He would like the next time he sees his sister to be on his own terms. He hadn't really seen the scientist since the METENO raids, having met with her in the labs to discuss his strange revival from the dead. He remembered nothing wrong with him except his own perception of himself and a strange refresh of his body. Not better. Not stronger. Just. Refreshed. The same reset from zero. [break][break]

It'd been months, and with his work with PENELOPE LIVY and Gunner Graves with the Council and HBIC, he hadn't had much time for his own research. Factor in things like Genevieve Cromwell 's training, who he had asked to keep quiet in order to avoid more ranger cadets seeking him out, and he'd had no time for himself. [break][break]

And beyond a work colleague, he liked to consider the brilliant woman a...friendly acquaintance. Perhaps not exactly friends due to simply not interacting that much, but he felt comfortable enough to talk to her about his own crack pot theories on pokemon, and more importantly, ask her out to the carnival. [break][break]

Frankly, he'd gotten extra tickets to go and he didn't want to go alone. But also he knew that woman was particularly stubborn, and seemed especially hermit like in her life style. And from one sick hermit to another, that wasn't the way to live. So he'd extended this invite with the perfect excuse: carnival is only around for so long. If they didn't go now, they never would. So he waited for her, sitting by some sort of bumper card ride and sending her a pin of his location.

Perhaps its planned that the carnival would take place aroudn the time that the new AMIGO app is getting so popular. The two events work well off each other making it easier than ever to pull out people for dates when suich a huge event was happening. [break][break]

Paxton found hismelf on such a day, waiting for one mila alexopoulos . Carnivals and fairs were always a good place for a dat efor him. The last time he'd had a nice itme wiht luciano fisk . Before that his boss PENELOPE LIVY and him had ended up having a very animated conversation. Hopefully it stayed that way. She seemed nice. Easy going. [break][break]

He wasn't much into fashion but he'd looked into her work. Offered a compliment here and there when their conversations turned less sexual. [break][break]

His Sigilyph fluttered aimlessly above the water as Paxton frantically chased the damn Cramoeant for his ring. It'd been a particularly bad day. The bad fight with luciano fisk came back to haunt him, and the sickening guilty flashbacks that were fading fast from Galar followed. He'd fallen out of bed breathing hard and sweating. All he had left was that ring, and some stupid bird had fought him for it- snapping the chain off entirely. So much for experiencing the rich history of Cramorant fishing. [break][break]

Paxton's partner had worked fast at least, smacking the bird in an attempt to retrieve the chain but the damn thing had only chosen to take the cowards way out. [break][break]

Now Paxton stood there, panicked and staring at the water with a fishing net far too small to catch such a huge bird. Even if the memories of Galar fade, that ring is a thread that tethers him to the mass hallucination. Even if he forgot everything else, he grew desperate at the thought of losing that ring. A simple platinum band with an engraving and a date. "Get ready, don't let that bird brain escape." He said before his partner whined and he corrected himself, "sorry Im just- anxious-" he said, eyes darting around.

"I like bein' outside more than th' city" He returned simply to his friend, glancing over at her. "Change of pace. Good break between paperwork and meetings." he added with a huff. He'd never liked meetings, and he tried to run through them as quickly as possible.

"You volunteered too, right?" he added, smiling at his old friend before turning back as the Absol began to growl at him. He retracted his hand, and moved back a couple of steps when she lunged for him. He doesn't run off though, standing his ground and watching her settle back into exhausted listlessness.

"If she keeps starving herself, she'll wither away." he said looking over at Callie.
