taking more than thirty seconds to defeat a single pokemon was already taking too long for kyle, and the appearance of a second one simply complicates the equation further.

"i think we need to wrap this up fast."

the dachsbun is recalled, and a baxcalibur takes its place. the excessive heat from its surroundings was enough to activate its thermal exchange. the temperature around the dragon-type gets normalized for a moment, until its trainer's next move takes it up a notch.

"snowscape."

the heat dies down in the battlefield they've been engaged on. while it doesn't completely kill off the smoke and other hazards from being near a volcano brings, it's enough for them to move comfortably for finishing blows.

the suicune by el starts to direct a huge blizzard towards the kommo-o as soon as the conditions for it become ideal, while the raikou ridden by yuina howls to the sky, directing a thunder at the kommo-o.

"bored." his response was deadpan. "all the rockets got bored of fighting and went exploring instead."

he hadn't had his fill yet. perhaps he came late for the party, or that there are more overzealous representatives of the league that got to them first before he did.

nevertheless, kyle ran out of things to do.

"do you want to fight instead?" he invites thomas before he dips his head low with a heavy sigh with a dismissive wave of his hand. "ugh, forget it. we're just going to ruin this place if we do."

it was obvious something was off.

the voice on the other side of the line seemed frazzled. it's normal, given that an issue that shouldn't be one is made into one.

"s-sir, i don't think we can share any more information about the cause of your problem."

"huh? why is that?"

"um, i can't tell."

or rather, the agent from the call center wasn't sure how to approach the situation. the frequency was compromised, and they weren't sure if revealing that they are aware was better or not.

although kyle doesn't particularly care if his location was compromised, he doesn't care enough to make it known either.

the reaction from his attacks get the champion curious. taking out his binoculars, he spies them from afar.

it surprises him to find people at the sky given that all clues lead to both faction's objectives being much lower than where the clouds are, but he isn't complaining.

he'll keep on pelting them with thunder out of interest. to back down or to figure out the source and take vengeance was the question he wants answered.

the resulting fight causes him to stumble backwards. he dusts off dirt from his clothing as he continues speaking.

"i remain friends with matias, and you still think of me like that? you're so bad at judging people."

the lightning strike causes a pause for their conversation. the solgaleo takes in cosmic power to protect itself, steeling itself as soon as the attack hits and reducing damage it takes.

"to answer your question, it wouldn't be silph." he was fair. she did answer his questions, so it's only right for him to do the same. "the guy hates incompetence, but he barely takes the lead nowadays."

it doesn't directly contradict elisabeth's judgement of the man. if he was busy trying to be someone else, then he's busy doing something else in the background.

kyle taps his temple as he tries to close distance once more.

"between a person eager to prove their worth in the council after resuming their seat a second time, and someone pressured with internal conflict between conscience and ruination, who do you think talks a lot more in meetings? who's more likely to lead the topic to the direction they want?"

who's a more important component to league's mechanisms?

"take that back. the mask's cool," he tells kazimir. "it looked really nice on the rocket i borrowed it from."

he would've been ready for a brawl had he not been distracted by an actual objective that would help their side win the race.

"now we're talking!"

his voice starts to get enthusiastic. the smile would be wider than what people are used to seeing, though the mask covers his features for anyone else to see.

the sock's origin is overlooked over the need to release pent up frustrations through beating up rocket grunts.

"lead the way, dog boy two."

he was number one. it wasn't a nickname he embraced at first, but it grew on him over the course of the years.

the word has enough power to dispel the illusion. pink mist surrounds them within the next second as decorations from his own chamber fade without transition.

his mind is unstable, courtesy of Elisabeth Fiorelli. the mist is unable to maintain a scenario from thoughts of someone without coherence in their own psyche, or so kyle's theory goes.

"change it to yours!" he demands. "mine's boring."

he taps his foot impatiently, but leaves it at that.

he chuckles, and then he laughs.

"true. i'm not exactly important in that grand scheme of things. titles are just titles at the end of the day."

a knife gets taken out. he twirls it around his fingers, like an expert such as Zev Harcourt would be capable of doing. the blade was, after all, as comfortable in his fingers as a gun would for some unexplained reason.

"-but unfortunately, i don't see how that matters." he smiles as he points the blade to her. "actually, let me rephrase that; i don't care."

the fight causes an interjection between their chat. his solgaleo deflects the blow with a metal burst, with the resulting explosion aimed to create distance between the two again.

"tell me about fern." there's not a lot of people he'd use nicknames with. "i never really got why people don't like him. would you be so nice as to enlighten me."

he deduces his condition through her words. though he hasn't seen it in action, it was documented in aqua's files. he smiles to himself, finding it ironic to be a victim to it only after it found itself away from the person he kept close to himself.

his eyes were never away from zev. he only has one weapon on hand, having prepared to take it out at any moment after he was attacked the first time.

a knife is pulled out, swinging it up right before the claws reach his head. a metallic clink rings as two of the same material clashes. he raises his foot soon after, dropping a push kick right on zev's chest.

the howl continues, ending abruptly to brace itself for the incoming brutal swing. the metagross forces itself to move as soon as the mightyena's song ends, marking the huntail down as per the alpha's command..

ORDERS OF THE ALPHA:

the user can specific a single target. allies that have SUBMITTED to the user can only attack that target. that target takes increased damage from ally pokemon.

only one pokemon can be targeted at a time.

it lunges forward, ignoring the pain from both of their attacks and brute forcing its way towards the water-type to take down its adversary.

"not really."

he enters their home and finds it furnished much like he remembered his home was as a child. it's too neat, and too proper. one wouldn't expect a young boy in his adolescence to be living here.

light from the outside filters through the windows, providing the only source of illumination in the house. walking by the dining table, he finds a note. it's the usual excuse of his adoptive parents going home late.

"there's food in the fridge if you want," he offers. "there's not really much here. did you expect something else?"

the change in navy's appearance is taken note of. he would've been made fun of if he shrunk down to an appropriate age, as he usually wore a uniform of a popular school in verdanturf.

immersing himself in his own memories have made it the case.

taking the knife out only forced more blood to gush out. a spray of flames accompany the gore, surprisingly unable to cauterize the wound by itself.

he takes the moment to put on the mask, a feat that was surprisingly difficult to do with an injured shoulder. the wincing is covered the same way zev's face manages to escape kyle's vision.

"an avatar? huh. i better walk the talk now."

as soon as the mask snugly fits his face, the mightyena yelps from the impact of the hatterene's move. angry barks from the heavy hit has it drop the ball it plucked to the ground, though it's immediately replaced with howling as soon as it sees his trainer get a second pokemon out.

HOWL OF THE WOLF PACK:

the user howls loudly to raise the spirit of itself and allies. this raises their ATTACK and SPECIAL ATTACK. this effect will be stronger on pokemon that SUBMIT to the user as their ALPHA.

pokemon with the SUBMISSIVE status cannot attack the user. this status effect lasts until they are returned.

enemy pokemon will be INTIMIDATED, lowering their ATTACK and SPECIAL ATTACK.

the metagross easily submits. it was already in its lowest after being stolen from its previous rocket trainer by the league's champion. ironic.

interest in fulfilling the objective set by the league has been inhibited by what Elisabeth Fiorelli had done to his mental. the only thing keeping him in was a natural curiosity to anything that connects their reality to fantasy.

more of the area had been available to them thanks to those that cleared the obstacles in their way. kyle has yet to contribute to the race, and it will be unlikely in the near future until his current iteration gets bored.

at present, any passerby would be able to find the trainer squatting on the floor. his attention was elsewhere as he eerily stares at a portion of the wall.

the sound of someone approaching has him lazily turn his head towards them. the only reaction he gives is a blink to acknowledge their existence as he goes back to staring at the etches on the walls.

the mist has already spread.

those that were unfortunate enough to enter and investigate would soon find themselves already in a transformed reality of a suspiciously specific scenario. winding halls, illuminated only by the light at the end, lead them to a chamber not everyone would be privy to.

"welcome!"

a loud voice would shout. at the end of the chamber was a throne, and on it was the champion itself. the crown atop his head matches the cape upon his shoulders. he slouches on the seat, with a foot raised and his head lazily propped up by his arm resting on the throne's armrests.

consoles and arcade machines were on his end of his room while the entrance to the chamber barely had any decorations, as if the one in charge got lazy at the end. for those that played rvl, it would be clear that this was the champion's room at ever grande.

"is this your dream? or is it mine?"

a stylized mask stolen from a rocket grunt covered his face, but as Zev Harcourt mentioned, a mask wouldn't be able to hide the identity behind it.

he had been wandering around without a care for the objective ever since his encounter with the avatar of ruination. it is by sheer coincidence that his path crosses with the assignment he agreed upon before his mind was muddled.

"oi!" he calls the first person he sees, coincidentally one of the people who took a liking on secondary identities from the start. "are you heading to where the fun is?"

it wasn't uncharacteristic for kyle to be straight to the point, but straying from the job is. the vagueness of his wording was the saving grace with the uncertainty of possible interpretations of his statement.

the fun in question was those of the opposite faction. they always had the best reactions.

the rural countryside of verdanturf greatly contrasts itself from the urban streets of slateport, but the setting doesn't necessarily affect anything else.

what did he do?

"school," he answers, uncertain with the recollection of his own childhood, "but you're not entirely wrong."

the wind whistles. no other voices can be heard in the background.

"do you want to visit my home?" he asks. navy had been there in real life, though the apartment he probably was more aware of the one he owned at slateport. "have you been there before?"

at this age and point in time, he probably hasn't.

a spotlight from the sky shines down on a large enough suburban home, with a dirt path straight to it emerging from the ground. no dogs would be barking by this area, as verdanturf was a ghost town for kyle at some point of his life.
