"it's probably just like a time-space distortion," kyle mentions. "like it just goes away after a while as long as we don't stay inside."

his eyes were looking from the flash of white they saw earlier, and it finally ends on a solitary figure of an absol atop some rocks. it disappears right after, leaving them with a superstition that hoenn residents know by heart.

"that's an absol," kyle states the obvious. "something bad's going to happen soon, huh?"

he turns to matias. "any guesses?"

"tch!"

he takes out his knife and nicks himself in the arm. lightning crashes down from the sky as sacred fire burns down the vines of ruination.

"he said it's fucking just us!" kyle shouts. "stay! down!"

kyle trudges along and chases afterwards, using the knife to cut through any weakened vines that continue to block the path after being burned.

"you can't just keep throwing a question back," he tells matias. "but, yeah. i just want to see what it is at the end of the tunnel."

he had been part of the group that actively tries to solve the puzzles of the island after all. it would be nice to see how it will end up, or if their efforts to get rid of each obstacle has been for naught.

"why didn't you participate in it?" he asks. "it's kinda fun, i think."

more so for him than the other person, who'd rather just take the refined pieces of information than trying to piece the puzzle himself.

a howl sounds from a distance, and a flash of white appears from the corner of their eyes.

while it's being restrained by the dhelmise, the paradox pokemon shoots its cannon once more at the eelektross, knocking it out.

"alright, alright," he answers. his words hint to a patronizing tone, but actions say otherwise.

with the electric-type recalled, the champion takes out another pokemon that can stand against the paradox pokemon and knock it out cleanly without much set up: his manectric.

with its legs planted on the ice sheet's surface, it glows with energy as it fires off its z-move at the target held in place by the rocket. a quick z-move: lord of vermillion fries it and its circuits for good before it disappears into the mist.

"truce?" he offers. "like let's just pretend this encounter didn't happen and we can just, you know, walk away from this mist?"

"an attempt to survive," he answers vaguely.

he recalls his pokemon as he runs to his solgaleo's side, making sure to touch its cold, dark crystals to ensure contact before the next phase of his plan.

"i told you. i don't plan to die anytime soon."

kyle did it to survive the onslaught of dangerous moves that came from the avatar with the goal of disarming him. any other side effects were aptly called that.

within the next moment, kyle disappears, teleporting away from conflict. there was no way to solve the encounter his way if his opponent keeps getting himself in the field.

the interdream mist from earlier helps with his escape, deterring anyone from following up easily.

kyle is too engaged with the illusions of the mist. each fallen paradox pokemon is replaced with another, and he's given no other option but to continue fighting.

the manectric mega evolves and starts raining the horde of roaring moon down with thunder. the suicune whips up the remaining turbulent winds from the hurricane with tailwind to keep the storm going.

one way or another, kyle is stuck in this situation, unable to return to his station at the right time. despite not being a direct result of rocket intervention, the other side remains to benefit from his dilemma.

one of the weird salamence swoops in, causing his mightyena to dodge and slip into the water. kyle recalls it before the big ass headgear drowns it with its weight.

kyle, wanting to finish this fast, sends out his manectric. he whistles for it to perform its z-move as soon as it's out before clumping next to his suicune for safety.

the suicune makes it rain with a song, causing a drizzle over their place and getting every paradox pokemon wet for the manectric's z-move.

his eelektross follows them up to the surface, using its large maw to crunch the dhelmise.

coming face to face with the rocket, kyle finds himself sympathizing. an awkward smile that teeters between actual amusement and empathy to the other's situation paints his expression.

"hey, on the bright side, you're about to get a distraction."

pink, cloudy mist comes out of the water, as if disturbed by the paradox of the copy of the suicune of this world coming into reality through the avatar's ability.

from it exits an iron bundle, shooting everyone with hydro pump like a fire fighter, disrupting the engagement while displacing every other pokemon in the sheet of ice.

the eelektross is thrown off its target, while the suicune shields for the avatar.

"oh."

kyle scratches the back of his head.

"shit, that was my bad." he thinks. he's not sure if an apology is required in this situation or not, but it can't hurt. "well, i'll go talk to him."

he was aware that matias has been a scourge for a lot of people, but he's never been aware of the specifics.

"people in the league aren't heroes," kyle reminds him. "that's why i kept trying to tell you i'm not one."

he leans over the railing and pushes his hand up his hair as if trying to clear his head. despite trying to appear calm to offset the emotional mood from navy, kyle starts to stress himself.

"what happened exactly?" he asks. "did you get in a heated debate or something in a place that invokes paranoia? it's difficult to see how simply trying to destroy the core ends to that."

coward. he stifles a chuckle.

"better a coward than dead," he playfully retorts.

the mightyena goes for the blade and tries to disarm with crunch, only to inevitably fall from the mimikyu's dazzling gleam. kyle whispers a praise for his pokemon before it gets recalled to tis ball.

out comes a houndoom, which reacts with the obsidian knife kyle has for a mega accessory. the pokemon lunges for jayden as it baits for aggression, linking every other pokemon in the field with destiny bond.

using his pokemon to buy time, he throws another one: his solgaleo. cosmic power gets channeled as it starts to affect both avatars, severing the connection they had with their patrons .

kyle clicks his tongue at the intermission, though frustration is quickly replaced with relief when the interdream zone presents him a way to actually use his pokemon.

islands form over the water, reminiscent of the other hoenn they planned to doom with the meteor once upon a time. they were sparse, but they're enough for kyle.

his mightyena comes out of the ball, standing on a piece of land as its only foothold. it tilts his head up as kyle throws the tera orb at the pokemon, allowing it to terastalize to a fairy-type.

tera blast decimates each paradox pokemon before it can come to them, though kyle effectively forgets about the other adversary at the heat of the moment.

a delay to the main force to clear the race's obstacles would get him trouble, he figures. just as he was about to quicken the pace, something distracts him.

the suicune immediately swivels to the attack's direction, throwing kyle to the opposite side of it, and then returns the move back with mirror coat.

he tries to get a pokemon out, and then realized that all he brought today were dogs. these dogs wouldn't be able to fight well in water, after all, so he's stuck with whatever his powers as an avatar can afford.

too worried about his situation, he fails to take into account the creeping mist.

it has been a while since he got screwed on the mind by tapu fini's mist, but day goes on as usual as he commutes to work with his pokemon, or rather, his avatar ability.

some people preferred to travel by sky, some by established teleport sites, and some, by water.

kyle's was riding his suicune familiar on top of water. there's something novel about walking on top of the water's surface without the aid of speed to retain tension.

maybe he should ask CIAN MAHER if he wants to experience it since he likes naruto so much.

on their way to their destination, the suicune stops. it senses another presence in the area, which kyle soon looks around for.
