kyle clicks his tongue at the intermission, though frustration is quickly replaced with relief when the interdream zone presents him a way to actually use his pokemon.

islands form over the water, reminiscent of the other hoenn they planned to doom with the meteor once upon a time. they were sparse, but they're enough for kyle.

his mightyena comes out of the ball, standing on a piece of land as its only foothold. it tilts his head up as kyle throws the tera orb at the pokemon, allowing it to terastalize to a fairy-type.

tera blast decimates each paradox pokemon before it can come to them, though kyle effectively forgets about the other adversary at the heat of the moment.

a delay to the main force to clear the race's obstacles would get him trouble, he figures. just as he was about to quicken the pace, something distracts him.

the suicune immediately swivels to the attack's direction, throwing kyle to the opposite side of it, and then returns the move back with mirror coat.

he tries to get a pokemon out, and then realized that all he brought today were dogs. these dogs wouldn't be able to fight well in water, after all, so he's stuck with whatever his powers as an avatar can afford.

too worried about his situation, he fails to take into account the creeping mist.

it has been a while since he got screwed on the mind by tapu fini's mist, but day goes on as usual as he commutes to work with his pokemon, or rather, his avatar ability.

some people preferred to travel by sky, some by established teleport sites, and some, by water.

kyle's was riding his suicune familiar on top of water. there's something novel about walking on top of the water's surface without the aid of speed to retain tension.

maybe he should ask CIAN MAHER if he wants to experience it since he likes naruto so much.

on their way to their destination, the suicune stops. it senses another presence in the area, which kyle soon looks around for.

kyle has, once again, abused his power to free himself from the structured patrols set by the league to deter against the rocket forces going against them.

'i'm sure rocket already has our routes recorded,' he'd try to argue his case to them. 'i'm just looking for theirs too.'

it's a weak argument, and everyone already knows of the champions intent by his personality alone, but it still was approved. the key was to ask the right people, and he lucked out.

he feels another layer of luck compounding itself when he spots a familiar face.

"hey," he calls matias. "you're still sticking around, huh?"

matias had been late for the entire thing, so kyle assumed he really just visited the site for personal reasons, much like he told him before.

"!"

his footing eventually crumbles as he finds a chain crushing the island of ice in its grip. before he fully submerges into the water, the suicune grabs him by his shirt. it was enough for kyle to have his hands on the suicune and pull himself up.

knowing that the target was underwater, he takes out a pokemon suited for it rather than have his suicune fight it. the eelektross comes out and quickly dives deep in the water.

it spreads its gastro acid into the water to muddle vision underwater. the viscous solution clouds up the water, providing a layer between the shallow part of the water and the depths.

one way or another, either side will have to cross it.

"isn't it normal to fear for my own life?" he tells him. "if it's inevitable, then i might as well request to get the longest time."

dazzling gleam cuts through the visual noise, and then seeps through the dark-type's weakness. clearing the air gives the mightyena enough vision to see the incoming attack, however, stirring it to get protection up.

"if you do meet him though, are you sure you can take him down?"

kyle starts to recall if there had been any potion from that one workshop that offered anything close to moves that conjured large chunks of ice, but since he's drawing blanks, one very niche answer comes to him.

it was then that he realizes he's up against an avatar. on paper, ice does go well against ground, answering his question.

to walk on water was such an anime thing to do, and to see suicune do it was something he envied.

"oi," he talks to his sacred ash beast, "how come ho-oh didn't give me the ability to walk on water?"

he was still above the surface of the water on his own two feet, albeit in an ice bridge made by his suicune familiar.

the detour was a shortcut between places of interest. there was supposed to be an obstacle he was needed to dispatch, being one of the only remaining people in the field that could help, and he woke up late that day to be in the action in time.

kyle would have wanted to avoid any of the fights in the main area for more reasons than one, but he supposed it also meant that he'd inevitably meet any rockets thinking similarly to him.

"you should leave me last."

MATIAS SILPH would be livid if kyle was taken out first. theatrics needed him to be saved for last.

the spike finds its way into ash, which fall and mix with the ground when ice pierces through it. kyle materializes elsewhere, somewhere near his mightyena.

"to see through smokescreen... are you a bat or something?"

still unable to move, the mightyena is forced to use its pitiful ranged moves against a mobile enemy. a whisper on the dark-type's ears lets it understand the trainer's command.

it sprays another spray of toxic towards kyle's previous location, which should be where jayden and his pokemon were.

"ayy! that's the point."

he was kyle lopez, one of the people in the league who doesn't really like the stressful skirmishes that comes with war. what he likes are big boss fights and final stands, and MATIAS SILPH is the solution to an easy path for either situations.

smoke obscures his vision enough to be unable to anticipate the following z-move. he doesn't even recognize being ensnared until his mightyena yips in surprise.

"champion matias, huh? that's what you'll get when you get rid of me. i wonder if ego will get him to do worse."

unable to move, the mightyena instead uses toxic in a wide area spray in front of it.

"death is the easy way out."

the mightyena yelps as it gets thrown backwards by the clobbopus's maneuver. kyle catches it before it rolls further along the beach and then returning it to the fray.

"don't worry. he'll suffer later. it just so happens that i still need him now."

energy is quickly expelled by the mightyena as it taps in into its inner abilities. a z-move actives as the mightyena barks, unleashing its move towards the fighting-type, turning into smoke upon impact.



"besides, he'll just be back even if he dies." as long as kyle's alive, at least, MATIAS SILPH has a way out.

"florist!"

he shouts with matias, much like how a lost dog search party goes. a voice answers them not long after, from where the sunkern returned to.

"why?" kyle would ask.

kyle takes the lead this time, stepping into the mist without much thought. his mightyena would delay behind but, as animals have better senses than humans, would sense the difference of this mist and the interdream mist.

it doesn't dare step further without kyle's call.

"it's not like we got off the wrong foot during our last encounter, right?" his voice would find more life in it, even has he turns to matias. "matias! it's your friend! come tell her to join us chitchat!"
