kyle blinks. they usually don't appear around these parts.

"it's probably part of the illusion or something," kyle surmises, noticing the mist forming, "so i guess we can't just capture it and release it elsewhere."

after realizing that it could be a green flag for matias, he turns to his mightyena. "just roar it away."

the pokemon roars, scaring it away back to its ball. with a red laser.

kyle raises a brow as the transmission indicates that it's not a wild pokemon, and is, in fact from a pokeball somewhere from the mist. there's only one sunkern trainer he knows if he remembers correctly.

"did the florist appear again?"

the highly inquisitive curiosity does bring the question of whether all the primal energy stored within groudon's avatar will be released the moment he expires, but he dismisses the thought over for the sake of sentimentality.

as soon as his friend's voice gives him the relief from panic, he turns to the battle to get a more thorough observation of the fight. his silvally might have seen better days, but it's still standing strong against the blacephalon.

something's different though. "tch."

he stomps his foot and releases ash that quickly turn to both suicune and raikou. a reflect is set up while the rain dance pours down.

kyle gets blown away from his original location. "shit!" his body aches over, but adrenaline gives him the push to get back on his legs. he recognizes the growth as something similar to z-crystals, but he never realizes they can grow on pokemon just as necrozma's crystals can on the likes of his silvally and solgaleo.

it tries to get it's fire-type z-move off but not before the silvally jumps forward to strike it down with a multi-attack. as a precaution, kyle follows it up with a throw of a pokeball, if only to give them a few moments of reprieve and kill the momentum of the ultra beast's onslaught.

"we have completely different approaches in battle," he retorts to his battle partner for the sake of retorting. "our own sugar and spice is like... actually, sugar and spice does make sense."

the brutal swing throws his manectric away, which is what kyle wanted his pokemon's position in the field to be: away from the action and far away where it can safely do its job.

"discharge!" he shouts. "oh, and don't get too near the other manectric," he follows up in a calmer tone. "let's not get caught in friendly fire."

electricity bursts from the manectric, bolts wildly spreading everywhere. despite the flashiness, only the clefairy was truly damaged by the move.

she wasn't the only one affected necessarily, however. the other manectric's lightning rod gets triggered deliberately by kyle's pokemon to build up its future attacks.

those would be one of the first words elisabeth would hear from the voices by the beach. like two high school delinquents, they have obviously left their posts to do whatever it is they're doing.

they sat underneath an overhang where the sun wouldn't burn their skin and the breeze from the waves cooled them down. the formation didn't look natural, as it was something kyle had asked matias to form with his powers as an avatar.

his mightyena reacts to something and shifts his head to a direction. kyle follows it too and sees nothing, leading him to believe it was way further.

"did you see something?"

the mightyena turns to him and yelps once at the disbelief that his trainer is cheering for the other side, and then twice when the another blade strikes at him, knocking him to the ground.

kyle is quick to take a replacement out.

"my job here is done then. you can stop going for me now."

the lucario roars as it mega evolves. the mightyena gets recalled to its ball and placed back to its holster while kyle's mega accessory glows right beside it despite being sheathed.

with a blaze kick, it strikes right at the honedge with the aim to push both the pokemon and its trainer away from them.

"come on, boy. you're going to get distracted for a while if you continue doing this.."

the mightyena takes the hit and endures the deep cut on its side to push through its foul play, grabbing the blade of the aegislash with its fangs and using the strength of its momentum to stick it deep in the ground.

"i mean, he was already dead. had to intervene and gatekeep him from crossing the border and all that, but that's still the easiest target out of the rest, i think."

he raises a brow as he locks his eyes on hitoshi.

"so, did that reignite your flame or nah?"

kyle's emerging hero complex has progressed into an ability to UPLIFT THE SPIRITS of willing people around him.

"hell yeah, they could," kyle answers enthusiastically. "i've seen them do it before."

his most recent memory of it happening was well over a year ago, however, back when they visited the good ol' sea!hoenn once upon a time. things that happened there were supposed to be confidential, but surely, any of the tapus have used it again since then, right?

their chat is interrupted by a thunderbolt from the tapu koko, blocked by the timely release of kyle's manectric activating its lightning rod. taking into account the terrain, as well as its status as a legendary, kyle has to mega evolve his pokemon just to resist the resisted move comfortably.

"at least the one under aqua doesn't want to kill us so they'll eventually let us win." the tapu koko didn't seem to show that much malice last time they met. "maybe we can go meet that one instead of this one. let's dip."

he hops on his manectric, whose purpose of being the getaway vehicle for the champion was already decided.

but it wasn't like kyle did something spectacular. if anything, he's just accelerating the process that would have happened sooner or later. isaac already has the answers, else he wouldn't have crossed sides. all he did was spin the story to his advantage.

it was always better if his first contact with aqua wasn't one spoiled by contracts or forced ideals. that way, kyle knows whether to stick with him or not from his first impression.

he turns to entei. "this is different from what you did."

kyle hops on the fire-type's back once more and instructs him to get him back home. there's more work to be done now, besides changing his pants. at the very least, it's a good excuse to stay away from battle for a while in lieu of preparing for yet another contract to be signed.

kyle doesn't give him any hint of whether he shares his view or not, and instead, respects his answer by taking out his cuffs for the rocket boss.

"i think dahlia would like you around," he tells isaac. "the rest, well, they might call you delusional, but you can handle that, right?"

their victory spells the end. the mist recedes, and the person kyle has on hold disappears with a puff of smoke. all they are left with is the barren and rocky landscape of where they originally stood, and on the corner, a broken container of the stimulants he stole from rocket cargo.

kyle looks at it, blinks, and then pats himself down. his pants are wet, leaking with the solution, while he feels the shards of glass inside the pouch strapped on his waist that broke from the action. he clicks his tongue.

"shit. i forgot about it. i was going to bring them home as a souvenir too."

he detaches his pouch from his belt and stares at the moist bag with disgust. it's the glass shard protruding from it that earns his irk more.

"well, i can't really go back there with pants like this so i'm going home. what about you?"

"nice air time on the juggle!"

he grabs on his smeargle as they drop to the floor below, leaving them with the defeated tapu fini, which dissipates into mist. without any lighting, kyle recalls his smeargle, who is unable to produce light, with a pokemon that can.

the manectric comes out of the ball, but before kyle can call a move out for the pokemon to use, an electric terrain covers the ground all of a sudden, giving them lighting from underneath their feet.

"well, he didn't do it," he tells thomas. "but if we're in a mist, then-"

kyle immediately gets his manectric to mega evolve. using the terrain, it fires off a charge beam towards the end of the corridor, lighting every segment of the tunnel for a fraction of a second.

it was enough to show them hordes of paradox pokemon, heightened by their quark drive. collectively, they fire their attack on the pokemon, knocking it out just as fast.

"i don't think we have ammo for this anymore." kyle turns tail after recalling his pokemon. "i'm running."

pain, injury and fatigue was one thing. having one of his wings get clipped as frost start to cover most of it was another.

it tries its best to flap its wings to remain airborne, but every factor adds up eventually for the pokemon's downfall. despite its effort, the aerodactyl exhaust itself and drops from the clouds.

"i should train more flying-types," he mutters to himself as he recalls the aerodactyl back to its ball.

ho-oh appears to replace it, appearing underneath kyle to catch it before it falls further down. it stops and stares up the rocket afterwards to gauge its reaction after showing the aerodactyl's replacement.

while isaac goes for the darkrai, kyle has his eyes on the prize.

using the cover of the mist, he guides entei and himself to where the rocket boss was. he jumps off of his pokemon, skidding just behind walsh while leaving a trail of ash to surround the darkrai avatar with.

entei roars, lighting it up with sacred fire. the flames get rid of the shadows from underneath walsh all while casting them up against the vague translucence of the mist where it cannot properly form.

the darkrai would attempt to help its avatar, but is instead stopped by isaac and his pokemon. conveniently, things lined up so kyle has an option not to deal with the more difficult thing.

kyle then takes out a knife and brandishes it against walsh, putting him on knifepoint for a capture.

"and if you had a chance, how would you end this?"

it's a question that has no right or wrong answer, but it was always nice to know where people stand with it, kind of like a personality test.

his manectric finds itself stepping back with each wave, getting itself closer and closer to kyle as it gets overwhelmed by the horde of scream tail coming at them.

"cause it's not like we can stay here longer anyways. i forgot to ask you to take your charizard away, and it looks like it helped them out."

some of the paradox pokemon do get strengthened by the sun, which matias' charizard brought. he'd fault him, but it's not like paradox pokemon have been around for a long while to get used to it.

kyle recalls his manectric and takes out his own paradox pokemon, a slither wing, to take advantage of the sun itself. as he rides his pokemon, the scream tail splits him off from the other before he can take care of the volatile.

"i'll stab you again if you don't keep your word, alright?" the way he says it doesn't seem like a threat, but closer to the casual banter he always throws out. "i'm super serious."

he takes his leave, since there's no point in fighting an endless horde of boosted rabid jigglypuffs. his farewell includes chucking the rest of the medical supplies in the bag he was playing with earlier on matias' head.

Kyle Lopez is the Top Champion of the Hoenn region's Pokemon League. He is a regular police officer during the events of Arc I to Arc III, where he assumes the role of Elite 4. He promotes to Champion during Arc V after the death of the current champion at that time.

As Elite 4, Kyle specialized in Electric-types, forgoing any kind of specialization as Champion. Kyle is also the avatar of Ho-oh, earning the protection of Entei because of it. He also formed a bond with Terrakion some time during Arc V.
