thread summary: Cora and avery avila spend time together putting makeup on for rocket disguise purposes and flirting[break]
why is it important?: Cora is the kind of girl who uses people so long as they're of use and of interest to her, and while she's still pretty early on in her character growth, she feels slightly differently towards Avery. She feels like she actually cares and, even more unusually, oddly protective of her.

She grins, a silent you bet your ass you can. Why say with words what she can say with her eyes, after all? Cora watches Avery's finger in amusement, so long and delicate with the tips in acrylic that it almost seems foreign for her little blue-haired firecracker's usual style.[break][break]

"Hmm... that's truuue, but it's not like they can tell me to do stuff I don't wanna do. I never do things unless I really, really like them" She smooches Avery's forehead and then, like a mother, licks her thumb and rubs off the faint traces of lipstick that stuck to the younger woman's skin. "Not to mention when you look like me, you don't have to take so many shitty jobs with asshole clients. Natural beauty and all that, ya'know?" It hadn't been quite that easy, at the very beginning, but Cora didn't want to impact how other's thought of her - especially not Avery.[break][break]

Avery's off like a shot at the mention of ice cream, and Cora stands from her spot as well to follow her. She shuffles past her at the doorframe, just brushing chest past chest as she does so. She turns back to face her briefly. "If you're well behaved and don't smudge your lipstick, maybe I'll reward you with something else delicious to eat"[break][break]

She doesn't give it time to sink in before she heads off, heels clicking against the floor and waiting for her tesorina to follow.

Cora lets the silence hang for a moment, then gives her model a smile as the curtains part. She slips between them quickly, blocking the gap with her body - she figures it might make Melody feel more covered up that way.[break][break]

"Melody, looking at you right now, I can't imagine anyone wearing it better"[break][break]

It was mostly true, after all - she was stunningly gorgeous in the outfit. It hugged her body in all the right ways, pushing and tucking where needed. The only person Cora could think of that might look more beautiful was herself, but that was mostly the whole self-obsessed thing talking. She reaches out to play absentmindedly with a lock of Melody's baby blue hair.[break][break]

"I really, really do think you look great. Make a deal with me - I think we should take a couple photos, and then you can see how you look. Not just sanding here in the changing room feeling sorry for yourself, but out there in the set, with the lighting. You'll look beautiful, I promise, amore mio" She seals her monologue by leaning in and - gently, so as to not mark her lovely face with bright pink lipstick - planting a kiss on Melody's forehead.[break][break]

It was mostly done out of love and care, but also just a tiny bit of her that didn't want her model to get all bah humbug on her lovely frosty photoshoot.

It certainly was more fun than rocket life. Even for Cora, who played at crime like a doll's house, the missions and everything became tiring. Little games like this, with Avery, where everything felt all so much and at the same time not enough to be frightening - it was perfection for a flighty child like Cora could be.[break][break]

She rolls her eyes loudly as her euphemism about short nails flies over Avery's head, and she has to try her very hardest to not reach forward a squeeze the younger woman's cheeks, to run her hands through her hair.[break][break]

"Yeah, like lockpicking, sure."[break][break]

Cora could indeed see through her attempt to not seem excited, and can't help but grin when her begging is called out. "You say that like you haven't heard me beg before, kitten" and she opens the pack of acrylics like she's done it a thousand times before - and she has. She takes them from the pack, applies them to Avery's wiggling digits and trims just a bit off the end.[break][break]

"You look so cute all dolled up like this, you know. And not like cutesy-wutesy cute, but like, hot. You could do my job!" A little white lie, of course - Cora wasn't sure someone like Avery would ever be able to reign themselves in long enough to model or design. But the smile that played on her lips suggested an addition - Cora preferred it that way. After all, who would her tesorina be if she was reigned in and calm? Nowhere near as exciting or fun to play with, that was for sure.[break][break]

"We should go get ice-cream or something after this. Maybe a coffee?"[break][break]

Cora says it with a little glint in her eye, as though she doesn't know exactly where they'll end up going after so much teasing. It was nice to be mean, sometimes, though.

The silence was broken by Melody's stress. Cora sighs, just little enough to not be heard - she realisesher own frustration would only make her model feel worse, after all. She runs a hand through her hair and then speaks up.[break][break]

"Listen, Melody. If you really don't think you can do it, I'm not gonna force you. Nobody is, okay? Buuut... I also know that you look absolutely gorgeous back there, and you're just feeling overwhelmed."[break][break]

She runs her fingernails over the fabric of the curtain like she were petting a Meowth, the soft fabric on the pads of her fingers. She sighs again, this time more in a so what do we do now kind of way than a just put the damn thing on way. Madeleine Miro was a force to be reckoned with, both on and off camera, so how was her daughter so... this?[break][break]

"Do you want me to come in there and take a look? Nobody else, just me"[break][break]

Maybe some girl time was required. Cora couldn't help but get the feeling that perhaps Melody hadn't had a girl bestie to say how cute she was and try on clothes with, before... maybe that was exactly what she needed.

She listens carefully - Mars is, to Cora, a friend, though he may well have thought differently. She cares about his thoughts, and more importantly within the current situation, she cares about his knowledge. Friend or not, he is also a mentor: an admin. A fact she often forgot, and one she should take advantage of more often if she actually cared about making anything of her time within Team Rocket.[break][break]

All pokémon have their use and purpose.[break][break]

She nods, casts her eyelashes down for a moment towards the empty pokéballs she keeps at her hip.[break][break]

"Dolce. Have at it."[break][break]

He does, of course, leaping into action alongside Mars' Braixen and putting things into OVERDRIVE. The two Unfezant surrounding him go down with little fuss, half-conscious by the time Cora launches the pokéballs their way. The birds are enveloped in the ball's red light and taken in.[break][break]

"Thank you" - to the Toxtricity at her side for taking the flying-types out? To Mars, maybe, for teaching her? A little bit of both. She turns to the Admin and smiles - a little less cocky this time.

Perhaps, deep in the multiverse, there is a crimelord Cora who knows exactly how these things were best to be handled. That Cora was not this Cora, and she gave the game away by staring blankly at Mars for just a few seconds. Her gaze flicks to the Braixen; to the Unfezants as they flustered their way around the bunker, then back to Mars as the lightbulb abive her head flickers on.[break][break]

"...We could keep them for rocket. Capture them, maybe sell them?"[break][break]

She says it like she's answering a question rather than providing her own idea. She never doubted herself, but a situation like this one made her feet unsteady - things usually had such simple answers. Fashion, to her, was so simple, despite how creative and out-of-the-box you needed to be to thrive in it. There was also rigidness, sizes were certain measurements, colours were certain hues. Coats, fur, miniskirts, all came and went during specific times of the year. But rocket work changed with every mission, with every variable.[break][break]

It was a lot to keep track of.[break][break]

"I'm sure someone will have use for them outside of the black market. Experiments, even?"

There was so much that Cora would never know.[break][break]

Hard work, real pain, real suffering - it was foreign to her. Everything in life had been easy, in her eyes, a blessing of circumstance. The right place, the right time - golden luck that paved the way. In truth, she came from a family that didn't have to struggle to put food on the table, who could give her pocket money to save, that were around enough to give her the good life that built her.[break][break]

She played games in a criminal organisation that allowed literal children to work for them - how would this ever be something real? No matter how many lives were lost by rocket hands, it would struggle to ever be more, in her eyes, than games played in a doll house. Sleep with a powerful man, take his money for the good of rocket, never lift a finger otherwise. Joke with your bosses. Flirt with your colleagues.[break][break]

The temptation to say I dunno, who cares? was overwhelming, but had enough sense, at least, to not do that. She turned to him as Dolce returns to her side, the birds in the brush crying out, some disappearing off and out of the base. The wisps bathe the place in a warm glow, twinkling like Christmas lights against her green eyes.[break][break]

"...Would just cleaning the place up a little stop them from coming back? Since it wouldn't be all gross and... bush-y?"[break][break]

She genuinely didn't know. If she had been the kind who worries, it would've made her think - How did I get this far without being able to answer a simple question like that?
