"we'll be battle dancing unicooooooorns!"[break][break]

francie throws four fists into the air on beat to the music coming through her headphones.[break][break]

"it's not too late! you could gamble all the heavy hitters while we're battle dancing unicorns," she twists and flicks her fingers like magic. "with glitter."[break][break]

and cue her silly dances moves. all while on the back of her carracosta who is just costing around in one of the ponds in petalburg city. originally she'd finished up a visit with her parents and saw the pond. looked comfy.[break][break]

as the song's music dies down, so too do her dance moves, which is when she hears a scream.[break][break]

"captain," she asks her carracosta. "you hear that?"[break][break]

he gives her a groan as his answer and begins to flip over, to which she takes the hint and gives a hearty, "yip," and hops up, landing back on the carracosta as he's right side up making his way over to the shore.[break][break]

once on the shore, she lets captain follow behind her and pulls the headphones out of her ears. she can see a woman frantic at a shop.[break][break]

"ma'am, you okay? what's happened?"[break][break]

and so the woman proceeds to tell her about an infestation of bugs that weren't supposed to be in her bakery. it only takes her about two seconds to pull out her phone, sending out a request for help from nearby trainers and rangers, reassuring the woman she'll get things under control.

francie thinks out loud, not realizing how it sounds, or not caring how it sounds, and she shrugs.[break][break]

instead of bashful, she gives him a smile that asks him to deny it. because he's totally the type, she can feel it in her core.[break][break]

or maybe she's wrong and has a long way to go when it comes to reading people.[break][break]

"i'm going for vulpix and ninetales. both regular and alolan. the contrast between the fire and the ice..."[break][break]

not thinking twice about such a confession, francie takes a soft breath and smiles over at ollie. it's a smile she doesn't realize she hasn't held on her face for a long time.[break][break]

"for a friend." she is happy.

when he points the eggs and milk out to her, she gives him a sheepish smile of gratitude. thanking him without words, because she's a goof who didn't see the items immediately.[break][break]

then he asks a question she didn't know she didn't want him to ask. her brows crinkle for a moment as she thinks about it. usually her immediate response would be, fernando! but right this moment? it wasn't.[break][break]

how odd. but the thought makes her smile.[break][break]

"yeah, i do. but i mean, i had the theme picked out when you first mentioned making cupcakes for friends."[break][break]

maybe he wanted her to say what the theme she was picking was out loud. however, she hadn't. saying that she was going to do an alolan and regular vulpix mix, with the theme being fire and ice, wasn't something she wanted to admit out loud just yet.[break][break]

"they're gonna be suuuuuuuper cute! i looked up techniques for getting the pokémon's shapes right while we were shopping."

ah, and suddenly to francie the all seeing cupid girl she thinks that she is, it all makes sense. ollie is in love with two women and he's not entirely sure how to feel about that without letting guilt creep in because that's what society tells him to feel.[break][break]

well boy oh boy is he in for a surprise, because francie is a closeted poly.[break][break]

the flour on her nose is 'twinkled' away, her mouth and nose scrunching and swishing back and forth as she blows up to make a small white cloud before her face.[break][break]

"there's never too many themes!" she begins moving through ollie's kitchen looking for bowls and things and not asking for help because she's busy rambling. "i don't see the problem in making something different for everyone. after all, no one person is the same. and as for me? i'll just eat the leftovers and things while we decorate."[break][break]

a small, slightly menacing but in a cute way, giggle leaves her as she turns to his fridge to start getting out ingredients.

"after that, i came back for a little while. demanded FERNANDO SILPH to give me a job." her tone said that went over super well; heavy with sarcasm. "so he put me alongside Raziel Beckett as a silph liaison for the rangers. not long after i got a call from my older sibling in kalos. investigating some cave, so i went to help, makes sure they stayed safe.[break][break]

"before i knew it, the barrier was up and i couldn't come back home right away. i traveled a bit more and came back as soon as i heard the barrier was down."

FERNANDO SILPH told her that once. told her that he couldn't say what she wanted him to say, or feel what he wanted her to feel for him, and that she needed to find out what in life would make her happy. so she was just wandering around for the longest time miserable that she couldn't be happy the way she wanted to.[break][break]

then she lied to herself, for years, told herself that she was happy because even if he couldn't love her back, she could love him.[break][break]

it was so hollow, so lonely, loving him like that. so she had to break herself free of him. she had to tell herself she had enough time wasted longing after him. that day on the beach when they met? he had a glalie by. his side and she caught a wingull.[break][break]

"sometimes people aren't happy, ollie," francie began as she stopped pushing him and gently released him, smiling enough that her tears were gone. "no matter what you do. break it off, don't break it off. try and mend it, or don't.[break][break]

"but if you're making her cupcakes, ollie, it's not fully broken and it sounds like you're mending. even if you're still trying to be friends... loving somebody that much makes it nearly impossible."[break][break]

or maybe, she thinks, maybe i'm just too weak.[break][break]

the serious subject makes her feel like she should change it. "if you don't want a theme, then maybe make them cupcakes with their favorite pokémon on them. can't go wrong with that!"

many of the 'i just don't know why penny and willow don't get along' moments had francie shaking her head and thinking to herself, boy oh boy are boys dumb sometimes.[break][break]

but she means it well. she knows that girls are just as dumb sometimes. people themselves are pretty dumb when they want to be. it's just how the world works. if people weren't dumb, people couldn't grow. the ones you gotta worry about, she's learned, are the ones who don't want to do any growing.[break][break]

but hearing ollie start to ramble on about penny has francie's eyes softening and getting little hearts in them. she clasps her hands together in excitement and leans in to listen with all her might. her booty wiggles in delight, hearts fluttering around her face.[break][break]

then, they break. the hearts shatter. they broke up, it was a sad tale indeed. but they're talking! ah! there's hope![break][break]

steams of dramatic tears are waving down francie's face like waterfalls.[break][break]

"then we will make her the most glorious and beautiful cupcakes we can muster!!" she takes ollie by the shoulders, he seemingly has no choice in the matter. "she must know you still want to be ... wait,"[break][break]

dumb boys, she reminds herself.[break][break]

"you do still want to be like you were before? not broken up, right?"

when her name is called, francie turns to look. blonde waves twist and bounce as her head turns to look. the moment she lays her eyes on a familiar head of silver hair, she's bouncing over in excitement and grinning from ear to ear.[break][break]

"oh my gods derek hi!!!" cue her frantic waves of excitement and a bounce of a hug that she only realizes as she gives it might not be welcome.[break][break]

"ohp! sorry," she relases him, laughing. "i keep forgetting i'm not just supposed to hug people. i'm supposed to ask first."[break][break]

she's mostly scolding herself as she holds her ams out wide to ask for a hug and beams at him like the sun itself. her voice drops a few octaves as she wiggles her fingers.[break][break]

"i just got so excited to see you!!!"

as ollie thinks about what theme he wants and ends up rambling on about not telling her what the sweets were for, francie just smiles, nods, and excitedly clenches her fists. she leans forward, her full attention on him and all the people he's listing.[break][break]

she raises her fingers with him. one. two. she nods vigorously as he explains. but by the third, he's looking sheepish, and she knows that look. she knows it because she used to give it a hell of a lot more than most deserved.[break][break]

"ooooohhhhh???" she prods, clearly teasing him as she grins his way. "for penny?"[break][break]

her whole face lights up like an evil flying companion on a certain game who was just told she was getting a sticky honey roast. she leans forward, a sparkle in her eye, and wiggles her three fingers at him.[break][break]

+ hoenn native born in petalburg!

+ she left petalburg with three rockruffs and an attitude that she'd climb every mountain hoenn had to offer, both physical and metaphorical!

+ about eight years ago now was petalburg's gym leader, had a run in with old rocket, left the region.

+ about seven years ago was in kanto, stayed for about two years, came back to hoenn.

+ five years ago was petalburg's gym leader again quite a while before being asked to go around as a liaison of sorts for the league in different regions.

+ traveled around various regions for three years before coming back to hoenn and becoming a ranger for FERNANDO SILPH alongside Raziel Beckett. worked for a year before family pulled her away from hoenn once again and over to kalos.

+ is now back in hoenn under ollie morales's command over in ever grande city! she's focusing on trying to figure out who she wants to become and where she should put here energy.

flying an aerodactyl into mauville hills would likely be frowned upon, so francie opted to ride her aerodactyl to the city limits and walk the rest of the way toward mauville hills.[break][break]

on her way through she stopped to pick up a few of their favorite snacks. things to munch on, half of it they’ll complain about, the other half they’ll consume without guilty because ‘it’s just that good.’[break][break]

the walk gave her enough time to think, really think. the sort of thinking that she does when she’s alone and exactly why she hates being alone. intrusive thoughts twist and curl around in her brain like a fungus.[break][break]

she’s able to pull herself from her thoughts long enough to remind herself of where he lives, his address specifically. from her time as his friend before she left, and the moments when she demanded to get him some food delivered when he wasn’t feeling well or like he wanted to go and get food, she knew where he lived. [break][break]

the penthouse was undeniably beautiful in all the pictures he sent her or uploaded in some way. but there is a nervousness creeping into her stomach as she approaches the door. the sort of nerves that make her feel jittery.[break][break]

there is no fear, only excitement. she cannot wait to be face to face with her friend. she tells herself not to just leap onto him when he answers the door, even if it’s tempting.[break][break]

approaching the desk, she sets down her bags and gives a bright smile to the receptionist.[break][break]

”hello! erm, i’m here to surprise a friend. barnaby finch? i know you guys usually take his stuff up for him but uh, can you call and say that you have a big package waiting for his signature approval? please?”[break][break]

the woman looks to francie oddly, but furrows her brows in concern. ”and may i ask who the delivery is from?”[break][break]

”oh! true, uh, it’s from francie myrtle.” francie answers sheepishly as she’s sending barnaby a text.

Hey soooooo I might have sent a care package for you again.

the receptionist gives a warm smile. packages from miss myrtle are a frequent and she gives a solemn nod of approval at the request, picking up the phone to hail barnaby down under the guise of ‘needing his signature.’[break][break]

as she listens to the receptionist, she shoots barnaby just one more text.
