Their attacks were slowly chipping away at the Claydol's defenses. But it would seem all they managed to do was piss it off. Hailee gritted her teeth. She was forced to choose between possibly enduring or continuing the offensive. After watching everyone else she decided she'd continue the assault.[break][break]

"RAIJIN, SHOCK'EM!" Hailee ordered as her Emolga charged and collected all the electric energy he could muster within him. With a loud cry he released it all in a mighty DISCHARGE upon the Claydol, hoping to slow it down, even if just a little bit.[break][break]

The girl's responses were somewhat expected. But regardless of how they felt, Hailee knew it was her job as an seasoned ranger, one who was quite used to this desert phenomenon, to take responsibility and look out for the group. Still, no matter how 'used' to it she was, this shit just never got any easier.[break][break]

Sanguine hues stretched in surprise at the giant Claydol that appeared in front of them. "....Somethings gotta be in the sand at this point." she said as snatched Raijin's pokeball off her belt. That was the only way to explain these colossal creatures she routinely came across here in the desert. "C'mon buddy, let's do our best." she said as she glared at the beast. Her teammate had the right of it, the Claydol seemed to have some protective energy barrier around it.[break][break]

The quicker they disabled that shield the better for them. "Give 'em shock therapy!" she ordered as her emolga charged forward. Electricity crackled and popped off it's body as he made his way closer to the Claydol's barrier. Snuggling up close, Raijin uses NUZZLE against the protected Claydol.[break][break]

How did Hailee manage to find herself back in this exact predicament again? Like literally, the odds of being here, in a desert, fighting some godsforsaken primordial beast once again. It was uncanny to say the least. Not to mention her company, not that there was anything wrong with the girls by any means but...they seemed like kids.[break][break]

Even that was similar to her past excursions into the wilds. It was almost laughable except for the fact that Hailee found herself severely ill-prepared. Just her luck. It had been over a year since she was last in Hoenn and without even months of being back she was already being thrust into Hoenn's good 'ol oddities.[break][break]

Raijin sat atop Hailee's head trying his best to put on a brave face. Come rain or shine, he was always around whenever she was in a pickle. But they both were aware that he wasn't exactly the best when it came to dire situations such as these. A soft sigh escaped the seasoned Ranger's lips as she gently gave his head a reassuring pat.[break][break]

"Right," she breathed. "Should worst come to worst you guys should prioritize your safety first. I can do my best to buy you all time." That's what she should be doing, after all these kids had families to get back to.

"Don't let his cute appearance fool you," Hailee said with a smirk towards Raijin, "He's a little rascal." she warned as Raijin puffed out his cheeks in protest. In regards to Hailee's experiences with Alpha pokémon Hailee really had to stop and think about it. She wasn't sure she'd run into any Alpha's though she'd certainly run into plenty of dangerous situations. [break][break]

"I'm plenty familiar with Space-time distortions, but there's always more I could learn. As for Alpha pokémon, I can't say I've encountered many. But I believe I'm flexible enough to adapt quickly in intense situations." After all, after numerous brushes against death, she'd have to be. [break][break]

She quickly mounted the Ninetails that was offered to her, giving her another soft pat as a thank you for the Vulpine pokémon being so accommodating to her. The extra security from the psychic hold the pokémon emitted was welcomed as well.

"I... Uh... Hmmm I think it was one of the best lessons I've ever had." Noah said as he started the engine once more. Hailee stole a quick glance at him and noticed his flushed cheeks and smiled to herself. "But I do think I will need some reminders and perhaps some... Homework? Extra curricular activities? Hailee's hand paused as she was applying lip gloss in the car's mirror. Her eyes were wide in surprise before she busted out laughing. Her whole frame shook as her body was wracked in a fit of giggles. "Hah..." Hailee said as she clutched her stomach. "My stomach hurts," she whimpered after a moment of intense laughter.[break][break]

Trying to collect herself she gently wiped away the tears from the corner of her eyes. "Yeah, I think that can be arranged." It hadn't been that long since Littleroot and her accidental trip to that other realm, but it would seem that she was busier than ever. It made sense that the Rangers had their hands full with everything going on. At this point Hailee was no stranger to staring danger and death in the face, but somehow it still never changed the sinking feeling in her gut.[break][break]

The location today was one of the byproducts of the meteor clash. An eternal winter. This place didn't look like a magical wonderland but a frozen hellscape. And the silence here was deafening. Hailee fastened her coat tighter around herself. Despite all the care and additional layers she had put on in preparation, the cold here still chilled her to the bone.[break][break]

"You must be Hailee. Great to meet you. Elite Ranger Devlin or Gym Leader Devlin, but I go by Josh," came the greeting from her superior as she approached the designated meeting spot. Hailee accepted the handshake with a gloved one of her own. "Nice to meet you...erm...Josh?" she wasn't sure if she should address him so casually but he had said that was the name he went by.[break][break]

"If you don't have a fire Pokémon to take to our destination, you're welcome to hop on Mystic's back," he said as he motioned towards his massive fire fox decked out in riding gear. Hailee nodded in greeting at her before turning back to Josh. "I have one but I wouldn't mind sticking by her. If only to conserve some energy on our journey." she said as she gently patted Mystic on her head.[break][break]

As they were going through introductions Raijin, her emolga, poked his head out from her clothes where he stayed buried and hidden before. Hailee caught the movement from the corner of her eye before she offered a sheepish smile. "Ah, it seems he wanted to say hello too. This is Raijin, Raijin this is Josh." she said as she scratched his head with her nail gently.

Hailee was bone fucking tired. [break][break]

Things had been nonstop for her ever since the events of Littleroot. Especially so after she found herself momentarily trapped in an entirely different dimension with her sister and a couple of strangers. Directly after that, her sister got emergency calls from her agency which required her to relocate.[break][break]

That was an entire tearful bittersweet moment on it's own. It felt like just when Hailee had gotten used to having her sister around she was gone again. But such was life in show biz, besides, she knew she could always call on Fae whenever she needed to. But because Hailee had been helping her sister move, which couldn't have come at a better time lowkey due to growing tensions between Rocket and the League, she'd missed out on some things. [break][break]

There was apparently promotions going on and another Ranger meeting much like the one that happened before Littleroot. But her hands were tied and there was only one of her and she couldn't be everywhere at once. After enjoying a short but well deserved vacation with her boyfriend, once he finished assisting her with her sister's move, she was right back to work again. [break][break]

As anyone that really knew Hailee, they would also know where to find her today. Parked in front of the food trucks having the time of her life. Razz had done a really good job of gathering a good selection so whatever he had to say she was sure to give him her full attention since he had successfully found the way to her heart. [break][break]

Through her stomach of, course. [break][break]

Razz quickly goes through the formalities and introduces himself before announcing that he would be taking over the Slateport Ranger's in Tam's stead. Hailee had already been aware of this change earlier as she had been called into an interview with Tam and Razz before Tam's final departure.[break][break]

Another tearful goodbye but she could understand prioritizing family at this time. War was no joke and while Hailee was nervous at these building tensions, she also felt she was suddenly too far gone. In too deep to back out now. Now she had a responsibility to the people of Hoenn and most importantly, she still had loved ones to protect. [break][break]

When opening up the floor one of the new Ranger's Hailee hadn't seen but had heard of spoke up. "Team Rocket has been running rampant over the water routes near Slateport City, closing in on the port. How are we going to prevent them from another take-over of Slateport? I can guarantee it's on their mind."[break][break]

Hailee thoughtfully chewed on a french fry at the notion. It was a solid question but she could hear the hushed whispers among the crowd. "Yeah, you'd know all about Rocket's plans, wouldn't you?" Orion snaps, she could hear them quite well as she was standing next to the two. She could understand the hostility. Orion had long made it known his hatred for Rocket and what they had done to him, she couldn't blame him. [break][break]

"Easy there." Hailee said with a gentle tap on Orion's arm as she shared her fries with him. (Something she never does by the way. Hailee fucking Jacobs does not share food.) It was her attempt at offering him support and to try to calm him in a way only she knew how. Besides, Hailee was never herself when she was hungry either. "If what he says is true I'd like to second that question and add on do we have known evacuation routes in case of an emergency?" [break][break]

She remembered the chaos that led up to the Littleroot conflict and prioritizing the safety of the civilians would always be the first thing on her mind. "I wouldn't be opposed to the Slateport Rangers hosting drills just to prepare for the future."

Hailee really had no way to know if this was going to work but she had to try. It was better than waiting for their impending doom. Besides she had her sister here with her. In her moment of weakness her sister reminded her that she wasn't alone. She couldn't repay that kindness and love by abandoning hope. [break][break]

And so Fawkes continued to beat on their way out. At first, she had to admit, it wasn't looking so great but at some point the young ranger could hear audible clicks from beyond the wall. Then something began to rumble and shift. A crack of light from the surface began to show from their exit and Hailee gasped. [break][break]

But just as quickly the gasp turned into panic. More sand was pouring into the room and their exit had gotten stuck when trying to open. Outside she could hear voices and she knew the rest of the team was there. Hailee had to think quickly otherwise her and her sister would be buried underneath. [break][break]

"VAL CAN YOU HEAR ME?!" Hailee called out from below. A familiar piercing cry from her Altaria sounded in response shortly after. "FOCUS ON ME! WE'RE GONNA DO LIKE WE TRAINED!" she shouted. "PIERCE THE HEAVENS, VAL. MEGA EVOLVE!" Hailee ordered as she brushed her hand against mega accessory attached to her ears, almost as if she was brushing her hair back. [break][break]

On the surface Valerie roared before she was enveloped into a golden light. In a flash the shiny Altaria had mega evolved, her triumphant cry was all the signal Hailee needed. "Fae, Fawkes, we need to step back. Trust me." she said with a smile before turning her attention back up. "Hit it with all you've got Val! Get us out of here!" she shouted and Valerie soared up into the sky like a bullet.[break][break]

Gaining some distance as to not hurt anyone a bright pool of translucent energy forms and gathers around her beak. White rings of energy begin to charge before Valerie releases the beam of energy towards the halted exit door. A magnificent display of the dragon's might as she executes a practiced DRAGON'S BREATH. [break][break]

The impact is sharp and everywhere around them shakes and trembles as rocks fly inward. Hailee shields her sister while Fawkes kicks some debris away from them. Dust billows into the room as does the sand and all is silent for a moment. Valerie quickly flies down searching for her trainer but sees nothing but mounds of sand. [break][break]

She lets out a worried cry as she inches closer until finally Fawkes, Hailee, and Fae emerge from the sands with a gasp. Valerie excitedly rushes to help them out of the pit as does Fae's Cicero. "You did great Val," Hailee said as she reached to pet her. "Sorry for worrying you." Hailee's eyes then landed on Symon and Lydia. "Thanks you two. I figure the way didn't open up without your help." Hailee said finally once they were all out of immediate danger for the moment.
