and his supsicions are correct, the wild grass-type revealing itself after a beat only to disappear entirely, chased away by a rowdy zebstrika.[break][break]

it turns towards them, firing off a DISCHARGE which startles james. "wait!" his type: null leaps in front of the way, taking the attack before firing back with an AERIAL ACE.[break][break]

after a moment, james tosses a pokeball, wanting to defuse the situation.[break][break]

as much as james would prefer not having to battle ever, he knows it's an unrealistic want, and his thoughts are proven correct as they find themselves tracking an unfamiliar PARADOX POKEMON, hot on its tail.[break][break]

"we really should have a ranger with us."[break][break]

but, again, his wants are unrealistic. they must make due with what they have. in this case, it's only the two aeos scientists.[break][break]

for once in a very, very long time, the apartment is immaculate, free from the clutter one would expect from two workaholics and one on the verge of becoming one. he'd done most of the cleaning, finding time between work sessions, but he left their bedrooms untouched, not wanting to know their secrets.[break][break]

the apartment has been cleared out, vacated to allow them their privacy just for this one evening. his roommates are likely holed up in the office, and even now, a part of him aches to be there with them.[break][break]

but as @sidney steps through the door, invited in, that part of him quickly fades.[break][break]

"i thought i'd cook you dinner. show you what you're missing out on."[break][break]

he says, smiling as he steps into the kitchen where he'd already started cooking.[break][break]

"you're not allergic to anything, right?"

he's never been good at having fun, at least not in the same way others do. his idea of fun revolves around sitting at his desk for hours on end, reading and learning, but for obvious reasons, he doesn't voice that out loud.[break][break]

he can have this kind of fun, too. or at least he'll try to for @sidney.[break][break]

she reaches for his hand before he can find hers, which he appreciates, and together, they make their way to the dancefloor.
