he jolts awake. [break][break]

the man is panicked, disorientated. his sense of time and reality are gradually returning, but the sudden jolt will leave him with a slight headache. it doesn't surprise her - he really took a deep, long nap. "good morning." she speaks dryly, eyes darting back towards the shelves of medication. her fingers continue to flip through the small cubbies, while her eyes scan the labels pasted above the knobs. [break][break]

though when she realizes just how much pain he is in, she unbuckles a pokeball on her belt to throw out. in a flash of blue, a blissey appears with a cheery chime. "heal pulse on him." she whistles, and the jolly ball of happiness waddles over to begin emanating a pinkish, healing aura. it should alleviate most of the pain - at least until she can find proper pain killers to prescribe. [break][break]

"it went fine." her eyes continue to scan the labels "try and stay seated. you lost some blood, so the iv is trying to replace those fluids. your stitches are also freshly done so don't strain yourself." stitches that should, for all intents and purposes, heal up quickly considering the continuous heal pulse being done. unfortunately, humans were not like pokemon, so some longer term care will be necessary. [break][break]

when she finds the medication, she pulls it out the cubby and quickly turns back to the rocket. the doctor holds a pill out, along with a bottle of water. "take it, and drink. i need a little bit of time to properly give you your prescription." dual-coloured eyes gaze back down to his arm, squinting slightly - though only of concern. [break][break]

i’d love to talk to you about galar sometime.[break][break]

curious - someone else who knew about the events of the galarian dream. she can only assume it was the galarian dream - her file wouldn't have said anything else. it's one of the few reasons she's decided to use her day off from work to go out, rather than hole herself back into the books. she's not sure what kind of galar he lived through, but she knows it's different. different from hers. [break][break]

did he have a memory of the distant dream? perhaps there was something that she didn't know - something that he was more privy to.[break][break]

the nurse sits in a coffee shop, her order still warm on the table when she glances down to her phone. she had already called the leader to set a time, and now all she has to do is wait for him to arrive. marisol frames it as a casual talk, or something to build off what they had the last time they'd seen each other. [break][break]

she glances at the donut sitting on the wax paper wrapper, humming before taking a quick bite of the sugary pastry. delicious.

the air is stagnant. [break][break]

it does her no favors when she jolts awake, immediately sitting up from the hard ground. her fingertips run cold, and the bead of sweat rolls down her cheek. breathing has never felt so suffocating, and her vision is slightly obscured. the wooden mask clings tightly to her cheeks, and the seemingly weightless chains stick around her neck. [break][break]

the first order of business is to take a deep breath - a proper breath - before she starts to panic. though her mind has barely caught up with the situation, her body is anxious. one steady breath, a second, and a third-- she'll be okay. [break][break]

her fingers trace herself from head to toe. first, she notices the mask on her face. she tries to discern the shape of it from her fingers. then, she cautiously touches the eerie and familiar chains that bound her neck. it puzzles her, slightly: weren't they supposed to make her lose her mind? [break][break]

she doesn't have much more time to think before she hears screaming from the other cells - particularly at the guardsmen that roam in the open room. they won't let you out just because you ask them too, she thinks, but then her attention is grabbed by another fact; the fact that she isn't alone in this cell. [break][break]

her head immediately snaps to the other body in her cell - someone dressed similarly as her, with the same mask over their face. the only thing that points as an identifier is their body size. [break][break]

someone smaller, so someone younger or someone born small. [break][break]

as much as she wants to rattle the bars, she moves to her cellmate to gently shake them. when she notices the cold sweat, she uses the sleeve of her "prison suit" to lightly tap away at the sweat. "hey, can you hear me?" she asks, shrugging her lips.

it wasn't conventional, but it wasn't messy. [break][break]

she uses this time of him being knocked out to properly prepare her patient for a surgery. she pays little mind to the claydol who stares when she grabs an IV bag and tube. she pays little attention when she finds the vein and pricks his hand quickly to have the fluids pump throughout the procedure. now, it should be okay. [break][break]

gloves in hand and small mallet to boot, she disposes of the laced piece of cloth before sitting herself down by the trainer. though she feels the judgmental gaze of the doll, she says little while she begins to gently chip the larger chunks of ice from the skin. the room is befallen with silence as the musharna continues to feed the unfortunate trainer with her dream mist, hoping to keep him in his deep slumber. [break][break]

tink. tink. tink. [break][break]

time passes, likely a bit longer than she thought, when she can finally say that all the ice chunks have been removed from his flesh. there were some bits where the ice had practically bonded to his skin, and sadly she had to pick up the scalpel for that. debridement was her last resort for it, but thankfully she was able to stitch it back up without any excess blood being lost. for the most part, the frostbitten bits should have been removed, and the arm should begin healing normally. [break][break]

a quick wrap around, sterilization, and he was good to go.[break][break]

when she finishes, she lets out a soft sigh of relief. "that's enough." her hand raises to the musharna, signaling to her. the dream mist slowly dissipates, and the trainer should be waking up soon. he'll also likely be dizzy and slightly disorientated when he awakens. her dusknoir floats towards the two, of which marisol commands "help him when he gets up." [break][break]

she'll give him time to wake up while walking towards some medical cabinets, flipping through shelves and cubbies for the appropriate pain killers. he was going to be excruciatingly sore once he awoken, after all./

something is off. [break][break]

it's been off since the first day they left the dream how ever long ago it was. it's been off since the times she's spoken to him over the phone, or the times she would text to check in when she wasn't in the middle of a shift, or an exam. the day they woke up - after what felt like twenty years - had changed something in her; it had changed something in him, and everyone else who woke up with them. [break][break]

but he's acting the same, smiling just as often, but was it always that sullen? [break][break]

the brief concern is brushed aside come the jabbing comment, with the heel of her slipper lightly tapping the back of his leg. "i don't want to hear that from you." she retorts with her own jest, mocking a faux offense before shifting to begin unpacking the bags of food that wafted from within. [break][break]

an idle hum joins another yawn - this time covered with the back of her hand and followed by a few blinks. "mm.. yeah, i graduated recently." she glances to the degree hanging on her wall, and wryly chuckles. "honestly, the most expensive piece of paper i've ever bought." she says this half jokingly, but there's no tone of bitterness or irritation. it's helped her in more ways than one, and she can't complain about it. [break][break]

"and now i'm stuck as a graveyard shift nurse." she pauses for a moment, and her eyes light up slightly seeing a familiar label of kantonian foods. she catches herself, though, thankfully.

she wants to say, biting back the cold words that sat on the tip of her tongue. the irritation from being pulled from her own research can be temporarily pushed aside. this was a prior appointment, she should have set that time aside for something like this to begin with - yet no matter how she repeats this to herself, the skepticism doesn't fade. [break][break]

marisol follows suit, down the ladder, making strides towards the main door to the lab. the hallway itself isn't too long, and the main door can be seen from the hatch - in addition to multiple more doors, all of which she'll ignore. "i understand." she speaks beneath the mask, dual-toned eyes glancing towards the fallen, thin threads, followed by a quick glance at this monster of a man.[break][break]

with a soft sigh, she pushes against the door to reveal a relatively large room. a large, messy desk with veils and shelves of unidentified drugs, chemicals and so forth sit on display. seating for an operating table is placed deeper in the space, lab coats, goggles and masks are hung up neatly next to another door. [break][break]

she quickly moves to sit in the office chair tucked against the messy desk, with a heeled shoe gently pushing a wheeled stool towards her guest. "sit. i'm sure you have questions for me."[break][break]

she knows she has a few.

... is what she said, but if she's going to be completely honest, she's only ever known how to put someone to sleep and keep them asleep through the use of anesthetics. even though she could put him to sleep, there was no guarantee that he wouldn't jolt awake at the pain that came with removing ice from his arm. she's banking on the fact that the frostbite has numbed what pain he'll feel, but if that were the case, she'll assume he's already a lost cause. [break][break]

and she can't exactly come in and whack the back side of his head with a steel chair. [break][break]

the thought passes by just as quickly as her glance to the office chair. the doctor tucks the intrusive thought back into the depths of her mind. "this will only take a moment, then. my musharna will help keep you asleep during the process." she ushers him, quickly, into one of the operating tables within the room - he doesn't have to worry about why it's there. [break][break]

"lay down here, and just relax." she grabs a pair of gloves whilst waiting, adjusting the light above the operating table. maybe it'll feel like a visit to the dentist. a very dark, suspicious looking dentist. [break][break]

marisol wears a surgical mask over her nose and mouth, then holding a cloth laced in chloroform. "relax."

she's more cheery, less apprehensive. that's good. [break][break]

if she kept up her walls with her, marisol would feel a little bit worried - but it means that eris was raised properly. at least.. up until this point, because she still can't understand what kind of parent would leave a child like this alone. thankfully for eris, it's been so many years in this profession that marisol doesn't question it anymore. not everyone is born in luxury. [break][break]

the flush on her face is cute - especially when she's just embarrassed about being called out. it puts the both of them in that same boat. [break][break]

"instead," she hums instead, her gaze snapping towards some tracks that she casually approaches "how about i treat you to some ice cream once we get back up?"

neither of them have the luxury to think, or to theorize. [break][break]

though her gengar is happily throwing out SHADOWBALL at the stampede, it's only a matter of time until they retaliate upon realization that their siren song is no longer effective. lo and behold, some of them realize, and have started prepping their own bodies to be thrown at the trainers like the threats they were. though they looked cute, and looked fluffy, you learn quickly that pokemon are not to be judged by appearances. [break][break]

there's not much time to react, and so she whistles to grab the attention of her krookodile. there's little he can do, but a stomp on the ground is enough to signal to the large, bandit-like beast. with a stomp in the ground, the pokemon's EARTHQUAKE creates fissures and cracks in the earth around them; not only rendering some GYRO BALLS unstable, but jutting rocks from the ground to hopefully, hinder some of their movements. [break][break]

the field is uneven, although marisol's GENGAR is unharmed due to LEVITATE. [break][break]

on the other hand, she's worried about the band that Josh Devlin had brought with him; she wants to shout if he were okay, but they can't communicate. that was the double-edged sword. [break][break]

she'll treat and apologize to his pokemon after they get out.

surprise is one of them. [break][break]

but she can't be blamed, surely; it's just been so long since she's seen this familiar face. busy schedules have kept her from being able to properly keep in contact, despite still responding at her leisure. the joy she feels runs deeper than it should, and she pushes down the nagging urge to be more familiar than she admittedly is. [break][break]

"horrible time, actually. it's still a mess in here." her smile and chuckle couldn't place it further from annoyance in spite of the dry comment. she ultimately steps aside and away from the door, walking deeper into the apartment; though now it's to quickly walk to the living room. [break][break]

by the time he arrives, she's already clearing out some papers on the coffee table. quickly, she's trying to stack them up in a pile by her (now cold) cup of liquid candy. [break][break]

"sorry for the mess." she hums, moving more papers aside with a yawn to escape her lips.

marisol is familiar.[break][break]

back when kyurem first descended how ever long back, there were patients who came to her, weeping, about their loved ones lost to the ice. she'll never forget the mortified faces of family, never forget the tears of friends, and will never forget the reflection in the ice she saw with cold, dying eyes. [break][break]

what was on his arm was not kyurem's ice. but if not that, then what was it?[break][break]

still skeptical, but never voicing it, she wears a small smile. it's practiced, crafted by habit. hospitality and what felt like decades to hone and master make it unreadable - eerie for the keen eye. she has no line of questioning, and he doesn't look like he'll spill the beans. there's no use asking when this line of work is no questions asked, no strings attached. [break][break]

she turns her attention back to the musharna, who floats in the air with her same, drowsy cry. "i have no anesthetics on hand." she admits, waving her hand to waft some of the dream mist towards the frostbitten trainer "so i need to put you to sleep for a little while." [break][break]

she could knock him out, right here and right now, but that would be immoral - never minding that the work they were doing now was anything but. the doctor in her liked to ask for consent. [break][break]

"if it makes you feel safer, you can have some pokemon out to monitor me."

it isn't the true source.[break][break]

so she's not the only one who thinks that. perhaps it means she should start turning her attention up to the sea or the skies. still, dangerous as it may be down here, there's nothing wrong with being in the presence of the aftermath. a shame, she doesn't have the authority to look into something as large scale. [break][break]

not that authority has ever stopped her.[break][break]

josh's words are met with a relieved smile, followed by singing by horrid beasts in the distance. though marisol isn't all too familiar with these beasts, she was at least educated on what she might encounter down here. scream tail were so cute, if you ignored the destructive power they had. [break][break]

along with the krookodile, a gengar pops out of their pokeball. she fights the urge to sleep from their enticing song, though not effortlessly. frankly, the only reason she can is because she fights sleep on a regular basis - the slight bags under her eyes act as the wounds from each battle. [break][break]

the gengar moves first, blasting a small group of approaching beasts with SHADOWBALL to disrupt their singing. the nurse, in an attempt to keep herself further conscious and lucid amidst the festering singing, pulls out a pair of noise-cancelling ear-plugs - something that she was always prepared for upon researching the pokemon down here. [break][break]

"catch." she calls out to josh, passing another bag of a similar pair. it's unfortunate that she wouldn't be able to hear him anymore, but they wouldn't have to worry about falling asleep on the job.
