clearly, the wardens made no effort to prioritize their well-beings. marisol sits on the stone floor, wearing clothes she isn't familiar with, under the sickeningly high-horsed gaze of other-worldly beasts. she's wondering why she's here, or how she got here, when she was only working the graveyard shift. there are others who have done much worse. [break][break]

speaking of--[break][break]

"are you doing alright?" the nurse asks, moving towards who looked to be a young girl, likely no older than a teenager. it doesn't sit well with her to see someone so young with a chain around their neck and mask melded to their face. "try to breathe slowly," she starts, moving closer, with a warm hand over the youngster's. [break][break]

she taps, counting seconds to hold a breath and breathe along. it'll help keep her from panicking, at least.

mankind's enemy?[break][break]

in her memory, eternatus was a large, purple dragon. in her memory, its body oozed poison, corrupting everything that it touched. in her memory, the devastation, strife and pain that it caused was far too great, killing off hundreds of what little population there was in galar, killing off even more pokemon and wildlife. in her memory, it was a massacre - and the war they waged looked nothing more than a colony of ants marching through the true battle. [break][break]

"i couldn't meet as many people as i wished i did." she doesn't remember why she didn't, and the bitterness at wasted time grows the fresher the thought. it's only fueled further not knowing what she was doing in the interim. if anything, she still remembers the feeling of veils crafted with carefully carved stone and reused plastic brought from the waking world. [break][break]

perhaps it would be a good idea to meet this head researcher. [break][break]

she tucks the name in the back of her head, now wearing a soft smile whilst taking another bite of her pastry. all the while trying to absorb the information, only perking up slightly at the mention of dynergy. naturally, he would think it's a substance made from hell. it's natural for him to be unhappy with it, seeing the struggle and suffering that it brought upon the world. it's natural for him to be against the use when he knows of the destructive potential of it, and yet-- [break][break]

"it's still a necessary evil." without speaking a beat, marisol speaks with the most pessimism she's voiced in a while. with the amount of beasts and pseudo-gods walking the lands, a pokemon that only grew gargantuan seemed much less intimidating - in theory. [break][break]

"however, i agree. eternatus is too dangerous." as was the black knight "and it seems like it exists in the current time..?" which was curious, seeing as it has never shown itself outside of her fleeting dream. he was a warrior, however, there was merit to being a scholar. [break][break]

"it believe it's best use this time to learn about the beast before it reappears."

"marisol. take slow breaths, and try to reorientate yourself." it's easy to panic in this situation, especially if you're claustrophobic. she has some degree of sympathy for those struggling because of the mask and the construction of the chains. her hands instinctively raise up to try tugging at them - to yield no results. they were stuck on, like they were glued, and yet they had no tangible weight on her shoulders. [break][break]

the other thing she needed to do now was take a gander at their surroundings; guards she's unfamiliar with and a cell with only one bed. when the chime rings, she turns her attention to the descending platform - and only approaching it once she's confirmed that the young lady was okay. "try and stay calm," she mumbles. anyone would think she's saying it to her cellmate; the reality is that she's saying it to herself. [break][break]

she steels herself for the circus she is about to witness.

he's lucky. [break][break]

if he didn't catch himself, she might have kept the ball rolling and let him think he overextended his stay throughout the night. if he's so concerned, he can take a look at his abdomen and check if there are any stitches; check if there are any missing organs. he won't find them. [break][break]

her gaze falls to the ice, contemplative. she was going to refrain on talking about it, or ask questions, unless he brought it up. overstepping lines never got you anywhere good; rather, it'd do you more pain than anyone might have thought it would. the dulled, phantom throbbing in her leg is a vivid reminder of that. [break][break]

"good, it sounds like you'll recover smoothly." another quip at his recovery, although now there's a slightly relieved smile on her lips and slightest chime in her tone. when he finally takes the pill, she moves back to the cubbies to search amongst different dosages. [break][break]

"nothing out of the ordinary." the lie is spoken with the same amount of truth. when she finds the dose, she scoops a small bag to be brought to her desk and begin counting. "save for an odd reddish-purple glint. i saw it occasionally when i chipped away at the pieces." it was a glint she was familiar with, and a glint that will push her curiosity. indeed, she is a slave to science. "it reminded me of galar." she idly comments against her better judgement.

marisol doesn't know what happened in that dream; she doesn't know how the dreams differed. she was so engrossed in her own research in her shield's motostoke that she never thought to reach out to those who were researching in the other group. an oversight, she'll admit, fueled by her own reluctance to be social. it's different, now. [break][break]

she takes a bite from the pastry, brows furrowed trying to recall the smallest details about her time in galar. the only thing to remind her that it existed was a little wooden carving - the tiniest little carving to prove it was real. though the memory fades, the frustration she feels when she can't remember has only grown stronger this past year. [break][break]

"i see.." she hums, though only in thought. he remembered more than she did, at least. should she be empathetic and glad for him, pitiful, or envious? [break][break]

she chooses the first option. [break][break]

"it sounds like you lived through a lot," everyone does after twenty years. it's not a matter of if they remembered, but rather what they remembered that marisol is interested in, however. she's not that kind - not anymore. "and it sounds like you've remembered a lot." [break][break]

she hoped that she'd remember him if they met in the dream. [break][break]

"personally, i don't remember my personal life back in galar." her fingers press against the wrapper, a grown slowly approaching her lips as she licks the residue glaze off. "i only remember drowning myself in work and drowning myself in research. i remember researching the mines, holding dynite ore, looking at the poison that oozed into the land." -- looking into the poison that corrupted the land, much like what they've been seeing recently - but different. there are faces blurred, and a young girl obscured. it's getting foggy when she tries to fall back into it, but she only squints in discomfort.

her lips curl into a natural smile (natural now; it would have been foreign days ago). he'd taken some time out of his busy day to entertain her, after all. as a gym leader, she'll assume he's just as busy as she can be; likely not taking care of those in hospice, moreso dealing with the political and supernatural climates of hoenn. he jolts awake. [break][break]

the man is panicked, disorientated. his sense of time and reality are gradually returning, but the sudden jolt will leave him with a slight headache. it doesn't surprise her - he really took a deep, long nap. "good morning." she speaks dryly, eyes darting back towards the shelves of medication. her fingers continue to flip through the small cubbies, while her eyes scan the labels pasted above the knobs. [break][break]

though when she realizes just how much pain he is in, she unbuckles a pokeball on her belt to throw out. in a flash of blue, a blissey appears with a cheery chime. "heal pulse on him." she whistles, and the jolly ball of happiness waddles over to begin emanating a pinkish, healing aura. it should alleviate most of the pain - at least until she can find proper pain killers to prescribe. [break][break]

"it went fine." her eyes continue to scan the labels "try and stay seated. you lost some blood, so the iv is trying to replace those fluids. your stitches are also freshly done so don't strain yourself." stitches that should, for all intents and purposes, heal up quickly considering the continuous heal pulse being done. unfortunately, humans were not like pokemon, so some longer term care will be necessary. [break][break]

when she finds the medication, she pulls it out the cubby and quickly turns back to the rocket. the doctor holds a pill out, along with a bottle of water. "take it, and drink. i need a little bit of time to properly give you your prescription." dual-coloured eyes gaze back down to his arm, squinting slightly - though only of concern. [break][break]

".. how are you feeling?"

curious - someone else who knew about the events of the galarian dream. she can only assume it was the galarian dream - her file wouldn't have said anything else. it's one of the few reasons she's decided to use her day off from work to go out, rather than hole herself back into the books. she's not sure what kind of galar he lived through, but she knows it's different. different from hers. [break][break]

did he have a memory of the distant dream? perhaps there was something that she didn't know - something that he was more privy to.[break][break]

the nurse sits in a coffee shop, her order still warm on the table when she glances down to her phone. she had already called the leader to set a time, and now all she has to do is wait for him to arrive. marisol frames it as a casual talk, or something to build off what they had the last time they'd seen each other. [break][break]

she glances at the donut sitting on the wax paper wrapper, humming before taking a quick bite of the sugary pastry. delicious.

the air is stagnant. [break][break]

it does her no favors when she jolts awake, immediately sitting up from the hard ground. her fingertips run cold, and the bead of sweat rolls down her cheek. breathing has never felt so suffocating, and her vision is slightly obscured. the wooden mask clings tightly to her cheeks, and the seemingly weightless chains stick around her neck. [break][break]

the first order of business is to take a deep breath - a proper breath - before she starts to panic. though her mind has barely caught up with the situation, her body is anxious. one steady breath, a second, and a third-- she'll be okay. [break][break]

her fingers trace herself from head to toe. first, she notices the mask on her face. she tries to discern the shape of it from her fingers. then, she cautiously touches the eerie and familiar chains that bound her neck. it puzzles her, slightly: weren't they supposed to make her lose her mind? [break][break]

she doesn't have much more time to think before she hears screaming from the other cells - particularly at the guardsmen that roam in the open room. they won't let you out just because you ask them too, she thinks, but then her attention is grabbed by another fact; the fact that she isn't alone in this cell. [break][break]

her head immediately snaps to the other body in her cell - someone dressed similarly as her, with the same mask over their face. the only thing that points as an identifier is their body size. [break][break]

someone smaller, so someone younger or someone born small. [break][break]

as much as she wants to rattle the bars, she moves to her cellmate to gently shake them. when she notices the cold sweat, she uses the sleeve of her "prison suit" to lightly tap away at the sweat. "hey, can you hear me?" she asks, shrugging her lips.

it wasn't conventional, but it wasn't messy. [break][break]

she uses this time of him being knocked out to properly prepare her patient for a surgery. she pays little mind to the claydol who stares when she grabs an IV bag and tube. she pays little attention when she finds the vein and pricks his hand quickly to have the fluids pump throughout the procedure. now, it should be okay. [break][break]

gloves in hand and small mallet to boot, she disposes of the laced piece of cloth before sitting herself down by the trainer. though she feels the judgmental gaze of the doll, she says little while she begins to gently chip the larger chunks of ice from the skin. the room is befallen with silence as the musharna continues to feed the unfortunate trainer with her dream mist, hoping to keep him in his deep slumber. [break][break]

tink. tink. tink. [break][break]

time passes, likely a bit longer than she thought, when she can finally say that all the ice chunks have been removed from his flesh. there were some bits where the ice had practically bonded to his skin, and sadly she had to pick up the scalpel for that. debridement was her last resort for it, but thankfully she was able to stitch it back up without any excess blood being lost. for the most part, the frostbitten bits should have been removed, and the arm should begin healing normally. [break][break]

a quick wrap around, sterilization, and he was good to go.[break][break]

when she finishes, she lets out a soft sigh of relief. "that's enough." her hand raises to the musharna, signaling to her. the dream mist slowly dissipates, and the trainer should be waking up soon. he'll also likely be dizzy and slightly disorientated when he awakens. her dusknoir floats towards the two, of which marisol commands "help him when he gets up." [break][break]

she'll give him time to wake up while walking towards some medical cabinets, flipping through shelves and cubbies for the appropriate pain killers. he was going to be excruciatingly sore once he awoken, after all./

something is off. [break][break]

it's been off since the first day they left the dream how ever long ago it was. it's been off since the times she's spoken to him over the phone, or the times she would text to check in when she wasn't in the middle of a shift, or an exam. the day they woke up - after what felt like twenty years - had changed something in her; it had changed something in him, and everyone else who woke up with them. [break][break]

but he's acting the same, smiling just as often, but was it always that sullen? [break][break]

the brief concern is brushed aside come the jabbing comment, with the heel of her slipper lightly tapping the back of his leg. "i don't want to hear that from you." she retorts with her own jest, mocking a faux offense before shifting to begin unpacking the bags of food that wafted from within. [break][break]

an idle hum joins another yawn - this time covered with the back of her hand and followed by a few blinks. "mm.. yeah, i graduated recently." she glances to the degree hanging on her wall, and wryly chuckles. "honestly, the most expensive piece of paper i've ever bought." she says this half jokingly, but there's no tone of bitterness or irritation. it's helped her in more ways than one, and she can't complain about it. [break][break]

"and now i'm stuck as a graveyard shift nurse." she pauses for a moment, and her eyes light up slightly seeing a familiar label of kantonian foods. she catches herself, though, thankfully.
