With his footsteps did his Noivern follow along, watching as his trainer began his trek before flapping his wings and embarking upon a flight overhead. The Stone trailed his gaze along the beast's form all the while, smiling softly and humming to himself before setting his eyes upon the path before him once more.[break][break]

In due time, another member of the local population seemed intent with greeting him. His smile broadened as he slowed to a stop, kneeling down onto a knee and awaiting the monochromatically pelted animal to approach him, itself.[break][break]

He reached into a pocket, offering it a snack he'd purchased before entry before tapping another Safari Ball onto its head.[break][break]

Nevertheless, though, to see one of several familiar activities return to the region's festivities brought some means of amusement and excitement he'd been missing in days' past back to him, so he made quick work of gearing himself up and wading into the waters alongside Achernar, watching as he dove in first before following suit.[break][break]

Just like last year, there was bound to be some failures and some successes. In the case of the day prior, it just so happened that his first taste of the dunk tank that year was destined to be the latter— but that was what the ongoing days were for.[break][break]

So, with the second day of the carnival in full swing, he found his way to the lines of the varied game booths once more, slipping himself into the queue for the aforementioned tank while eying those that took their shots (and, in the case of some, plunged into the waters) from the backline with a touch of curiosity and amusement, alike. When it came to his turn, he offered the man sitting atop the seat a quick smile and wave before lobbing the ball at the target.[break][break]

Truthfully speaking, before everything in the last month happened, the rapid approach of summer only naturally instilled the thought the summer activities he'd experience the year beforehand. Would they return? Would he end up plunging into the depths of a crisp deluge of water at the mercy of someone else?[break][break]

For better or for worse, the answer to both of those questions was yes— but would the latter come sooner than he thought?[break][break]

That depended solely on his throwing arm, really— so when it came to his turn, he eyed the person atop the seat before taking a Pokeball from one of the helpers and lobbing it at the target.[break][break]

With intent to make a stride for his beloved wyrm once more, the Stone had initially set his sights upon Orion as he simply laid upon the floor a small ways away from them. The form of the crystal within his grasp palmed against his hand and betwixt his fingers as they shifted it within an ever constant manner between them, only holding it still against one another as he began to take the first few steps towards one of the drakes that had become an even fiercer companion than before throughout the passing years.[break][break]

Yet as he strove for a third step, he found himself stopped.[break][break]

Another warmth enveloped the remaining extremity, prompting him to pause and peer over his shoulder once more. With a gaze meeting the sight of a woman so tender and reassuring, he merely found himself staring with naught more than a processing look as she spoke her part and held on so carefully.[break][break]

It hadn’t mattered how she’d obliged his inquiry, nor how he’d been the one to plead for a response to begin with; the words had simply traveled to him, only to be stopped short by a wall that only persisted to barricade his heart and soul from the corroded masses that had etched a clear imprintment upon him. Just as it had done to those lost not long ago—those that he would remember forevermore—it burned upon the shelters of his guise, engaging within a persistent onslaught to wither the walls away and creep its way far, far beneath.[break][break]

Spoken with shaky, baited breath, and an even shakier resolve. While she relaxed within his display, seeking to return the embrace he’d so desperately initiated, his arms moved further within an instinctive manner to keep her all the closer. Oblivious (and truthfully uncaring, if not) to those that may have stood onlooker to the scene that so suddenly manifested that day, he tilted his head down to rest against the crown of her head, almost as if a sniveling pup seeking shelter from the elements.[break][break]

Just like always, it seemed to take little time at all for the local wildlife to become curious about any and all newcomers that stepped foot into their home.[break][break]

Especially so when a particular drake had always made it his personal goal to see the sights during the rare times he was able to accompany his trainer wherever he may have gone. With a brief flash of a shadow razing the grounds beneath them, the Stone's gaze had traced along the grasses before lifting to meet the sight of his Noivern, soaring swiftly before descending by the shores of a nearby pond.[break][break]

He watched for just a second or two before noting the dragon begin to mingle and interact with a Wishiwashi that seemed eager to talk. A small smile tugged upon the trainer's lips as he hummed, palming one of the Safari Balls he'd been given and waiting until the two were finished before tossing it out.[break][break]

In the past, he never would’ve thought about taking a trip like the given for leisure— not solely, at the very least. Within days long passed and lost, the role of light—tried, true, and ever luminescent—had been one that he took so proudly, and so eagerly, in the face of any and all he would call close— and even then, many often found themselves unneeding of such status to encounter him beneath such visages. Optimism and a drive to uplift others had been traits that he held so very dear to his heart, priding himself upon them so commonly. It still remained a part of his pride, honestly, but still found itself faltered and eroded by the ceaseless winds of change that the realm had grown him accustomed to.[break][break]

So to find himself soothed by the woman before him, of all people, was nothing short of surprising.[break][break]

A gentle touch upon his cheek; a gentle gaze to accompany it. While she sought to lift herself and offer him words and gestures of comfort from above, he merely remained upon the ground beneath him while peering up with a dulled glow of amber to meet those of a bicolored brilliance. Although he hadn’t leaned away from her at first, the words—simple as they were—prompted a faint hardness to overtake his gaze as his eyes narrowed ever so slightly.[break][break]

He only mulled her comfort over shortly, instead inhaling deeply before sighing and lifting a hand to brush hers away.[break][break]

”...I’ll believe it when it’s proven,” he murmured, a soft and wry grimace shifting his face as he began to stand up.

Just as her hands had barely found the airs around his face, his own had immediately reached forth to properly find purchase against her shoulders. Uncaring of the blood and grime upon his form, he pulled her over. Uncaring of the wounds that surely lingered beneath the cloth upon him as his arms found their ways around her.[break][break]

Wounds of the heart paled in comparison to those of physicality, after all— and even if that hadn’t been the case, the adrenaline would evidently pay its dues to lighten the pain just for a moment.[break][break]
