Just as always, the skies shone immaculately.[break][break]

It hadn’t mattered where he viewed them from, nor what depth of night he gandered upon their beauty, but there had always been a certain touch he felt when beneath the Hoennian borders, particularly. Had it been due to sentimentality? An unsaid, unconscious bias?[break][break]

Whatever it was, he hadn’t quite been able to pin the reason down for the longest time.[break][break]

Regardless, though, he was back. Left within the wake of responsibility and the shadow past turmoil, alike, he found himself stuck between a rock and a hard place— and as he was wont to do since a young age, he eventually decided to clear his head with a small venture outdoors. As his Noivern circled the skies above him, their wings an ebon banner against a starlit backdrop, he merely kept a gaze forward. With a spare Pokeball in hand, he spun it within his grasp idly before noting a faint movement within the brush afar.[break][break]

He sat up a bit straighter, hues of amber narrowing amidst the evening starlight as he gauged the source with a careful eye. After a small while, he aimed carefully before lobbing the capsule outward.[break][break]

A familiar ring met his ears as the Pokeball met purchase against its target.[break]
It took him a moment to realize that, rather than the silence following a Pokemon’s capture, there seemed to be…another sort of noise? Startled, maybe? If he actually paid attention, it even sounded like—[break][break]

...Oh, shit, was that a person—?[break][break]

A sharp whistle left his lips, signaling the circling dragons overhead to return to him as he lifted himself from where he sat, making a brisk jog towards the greenery.

Just as he'd clipped the newly occupied Safari Ball onto his belt, he took note of another flash of movement from the corner of his eye.[break][break]

Swift. Fleeting. What started as a sense of wariness had trickled into one of amusement and curiosity, alike, as the source of said movement made themselves known once more. Its flame flickered softly atop its head, barely visible before it poked its head from around the back of a nearby tree.[break][break]

A Charcadet, he recognized.[break][break]

A rather shy one as well, by the look of it. It gave an endearing display; one that he couldn't help but smile a bit more at as he slowly began to shift in favor of sitting down on the paths. With a patient eye, he tilted his head before simply remaining where and as he was, giving it the chance to approach itself if it do desired.[break][break]

Lo and behold, it did.[break][break]

He chuckled and allowed it to move at its own pace, offering a hand for it to watch and examine before gently playing along with it once it realized he meant no harm. Like the last Pokemon, he offered it a snack, too, before tapping his last Safari ball against it.[break][break]

He chuckled to himself, barely taking a step forward once the Pokemon departed before another one seemed intent to catch his attention.[break][break]

It started with a cry from a distance— and one that was all too familiar to him, personally. Blinking, the Stone peered around in an attempt to trace the source before ultimately meeting eyes with an Elekid some ways away, eying him from the outskirts of some shrubberies before beginning to—...[break][break]

Waddle? Scamper?[break]
Whatever was most accurate to describe how an Elekid ran.[break][break]

It stopped at his feet before long, and for a few, calm moments, they simply stared at one another. The awkwardness of it all prompted a small, albeit unsure smile to tug upon his lips before he slowly knelt down, pocketing his hand briefly before retrieving a small snack from its confines and offering it to the little, dual hued creature.[break][break]

He chuckled as it accepted it with an eagerness that contrasted its earlier pensiveness, accounting it for a while longer before taking one of his remaining Safari Balls and tapping it against its head as it snacked away.[break][break]

He blinked beneath the goggles he wore, shaking the sands from his hand to reveal what looked to be a berry within his palm. Rolling it down towards his fingers, he held it gently while taking a gander before putting it away for safekeeping alongside the other things he'd found.[break][break]

Peering down soon afterward, he caught sight of Achernar once more, tilting his head before realizing that he was pointing a specific area out. His eyes trailed after his clawed finger before he swam down, brushing his hand along the sand.[break][break]

The pensiveness that crept between the cracks of his mind seemed to disperse before long at all could pass, courtesy of the selfsame fauna that inhabited the area. Though an absentminded glare had been locked upon the paths before him for a short while, a small flash of movement garnered his attention instead, prompting him to glance up.[break][break]

It was then that he met eyes with a Ledyba, briefly flying circles around him in curiosity before merely hovering before him.[break][break]

Even beneath the waves and currents of the water, the sunlight seemed to shine through the shard he'd picked up with a radiant glimmer. He turned it a couple of times within his grasp in admiration before tucking it away.[break][break]

A low, thoughtful left him as he breathed deeply through his gear. There were a number of little crevices and areas that seemed like they would harbor a fair amount of decent treasures, but naturally, he could only choose to visit them one at a time. He was but a single man, after all.[break][break]

So, he picked one from the fold and swam over, gently dusting the sand away.[break][break]

He'd barely managed to pocket his first find before the familiar form of a gator caught his eye, rapidly swimming through the waters to meet him before he'd even had the chance to begin moving. With a small turn within the currents, he faced Achernar as he returned to him with another object held between his hands.[break][break]

A small smile tugged upon his lips as he eyed it— though not without giving the Feraligatr a brief pat on the head in gratitude before he dove back down.[break][break]

Honestly speaking, he hadn't intended to stop by the tank again until later on in the day—specifically when the festivities found themselves among a backdrop of sunsets and festival lights—but by sheer chance, he'd managed to catch a glimpse of a certain someone as he began to pass by. With a curious eye, he'd initially debated between falling in line and continuing on before ultimately settling for the former.[break][break]

So, by the time he'd reached the front of the line, he gave her an innocent smile as he reached for one of the Pokeballs for use, waving her way. Whether or not he ended up failing like his last to attempts was something of unimportance honestly, because by that point, he'd settle for the scare factor, alone.[break][break]

The morning skies proved to be as crisp as ever.[break][break]

Yet with the summer season in full force, there was little doubt in his mind that the aforementioned crispness would dwindle and flee before long, with the embrace of almost blistering warmth between recent days standing within its place. It was something that he had to think his early bird behavior for, truly— because if not for his tendencies and affinities for embracing the morning air with open arms for better or for worse, he wouldn’t be outside and taking in the scenery while awaiting the arrival of a particular young man—not much younger than himself, if he remembered correctly—after crossing paths on the summer’s latest and hottest app.[break][break]

A gym leader, even. Small world.[break][break]

Titles and status mattered not, though— or they shouldn’t have, at the very least. It was a simple day off, as far as he was concerned, and one that was much needed in lieu of recent past. A breather. One that he found himself all too reluctant to embrace both then and within the present day, yet one that he knew he would need before long.[break][break]

So he simply enjoyed the early hours alongside his own group—a duo of Noivern and their fledgling Noibat, accompanied only by a duo of Garchomp, as well as an Altaria, of whom’s feathers shone a radiant gold within the brewing daylight. He leaned against the form of one of his most trusted within the bunch—Orion, one of the Noiverns present—as he gently poked and played with the Noibat fluttering about.[break][break]

Before long, though, the sight of approaching figures met his eye in the distance, and it was the call that resonated across the clearing upon their arrival that only settled the final nail in the coffin.[break][break]

”Mister Devlin! It’s good to see you, too!” he called out, a natural and familiar smile tugging upon his lips as he lifted an arm into the air, waving. ”I’m surprised you were so eager to fly at this time, honestly. Not many people are willing to be early birds~.”[break][break]

He turned towards Orion once more, reaching for one of the pouches resting upon his saddle before pulling a bag of baked goods and treats he’d bought from one of his go-to cafe’s before settling in at their meeting place.[break][break]

”Hope you and your Pokemon don’t mind a little snack before we take off. Figured I may as well get something for you guys~.”

An auburn glow—frantic as it may have been—lingered upon hers for a short while more before trailing down towards the ground beneath them, and then finally towards the doorway just a small ways away.
