Three and three. All they had. The sweat trickles down Ashley's neck, as the shadow before them contorts and sways, his eyes looking at the two with a quiescent fury, waiting to be unleashed. That massive shadowy blade awaiting its guillotine, another collective of victims to be had. Another few ghosts to add to the pile.

His breathing was stilted. As his heart sits in his throat, he looks at Lucia. With electrical energy, she was ready to go.

Isaac gave the best 'fuck you' speech he could, and with it comes Grimace, a friendly familiar face. The gargling war cry, and a cleanse tag on the Dracovish, and one for Lucia meant these two were their heavy hitters.

All while Echo prepared his own counter attack.

Another ELECTRO BALL and SHOCK WAVE combo, and Lucia was feeling rather energized, and with it, and Grimace taking the first move, Ashley points out. "Never stop moving, make sure he is always guessing. Hit him with all the charge you got, and never give him an inch!" With it, comes the blinding speed of the Pachirisu using SPARK over and over, speeding past in a zig, a zag, a zigzag, a zagzig, never once stopping as the Brutal Swing connected. The Butcher attempts to swing at both Grimace and Lucia, but unfortunately has trouble hitting the unpredictable combination.

Which leads Echo to a fun little item. There was a three-headed dog statue behind them- two of them. The same chair from before, a nightside table, a lamp on it, and... a chandelier directly above him. And they could be used to trap the bastard in place. As Grimace made the critical strike, Lucia would make tinier less than critical strikes. But they both were adding up quickly.

The Butcher looked no worse for wear though. He merely swipes, attempting to hit them the whole time. To no avail.

This felt too easy... was he sustaining damage at all? He bites his lip, and he turns to Isaac. Was this what they wanted? As piercing laughter booms from the Butcher, its so ear-piecing that Lucia stops in place, grabbing her little ears. Ashley grabs at his own, as does his Scorbunny. With a heavy downward slash, Lucia was going to be a goner. The blade begins its guillotine swipe downwards... if someone didn't do anything in the laugh, she was a dead squirrel.

Ashley couldn't hear a damn thing. His words weren't even audible.

A tornado of fire?! Really?! The gruff yell from above, and Ashley was preparing for the worst, but Reinhardt was a step ahead, acting as the shield between them, and preparing to take the brunt of the attack for Ashley. It was... not pretty, to say the least, but it gave Ashley the shield he needed.

That's Reinhardt for you. A shield to those in need, so long as they stay behind him. Unfortunately, unlike his namesake, Reinhardt's vision became shaky, which Ashley was not ready for.

Down an arm, and soon a Pokemon. He needed to think. His hand goes to the holster.

No.

He doesn't want to use that. He doesn't need it. But it's there. He pulls it out, its weight heavy, though by the pound is it light. He holds it in his hand. The grooves don't match. His hand is shaking. His breathing is uneven. He closes his eyes.

Reinhardt sees his partner's hesitation. The thing about him is that he would continue to be his shield, no matter what. Racing forward to tackle down the man with his Charizard with a POISON JAB with his POISON POINT, Ashley fumbled with the pistol.

With a thumb to the safety, he prepares to do what is needed and swallows down his fear. His silver eyes look on with a trembling determination. Waiting for the man to let his guard down. To corner him, as Reinhardt attempts to keep them busy. So Ashley can make the shot to protect himself and Felix.

Why is he hesitating?

With a thumbs up, Ashley nods towards Matt. "Got it, I'll take care of it. What flavor you want, man? It's your big day, not his." Course, when Isaac butts in about his Fennekin helping with the mix, he has to think a moment. His brain immediately thinks up a fox like Fennekin mixing stuff in a bowl with their feet. And that was unsanitary.

Still, he smiles. He had Bongo and Conga to help, plus Deedee. He shakes his head. "I got it, man. Cake mix isn't that hard with one hand. Physical therapy will be tomorrow, so I'll have use of my hand."

... he doesn't tell Isaac about the permanent nerve damage. It wasn't that serious, since he could still feel, but his right hand had trouble feeling things. It would take some getting used to.

Instead, he focuses on Matt and Isaac.

"Yeah, go get you a suit. I guess Kep and I need one too. Huh. He's gonna look so cute in it." Now his head was filled with fluffy thoughts.

"Yeah, maybe I'm jaded." He decides to admit, giving Mint the high ground in their banter. It's when he looks away, that he doesn't feel the mood darken, turn much worse. Instead, he listens to the engine.

He hears Mint give the same response he would have given when he was younger, and he laughs again. How nostalgic. He grabs towards his face, feeling at his forehead. Fuck, this feeling was familiar, and he hated it. The first friend; a cold, conniving killer. A piece of shit. The perfect mold for Kanto Rocket. So why then?

Why did Ashley care?

"Mine too. Back in Kanto."

He doesn't elaborate. He doesn't detail that life. To him, that friendship was dead. Ashley wanted it to go to rot, to burn. And maim it dead with Sushi's passing.

When Mint hops out, so does Ashley, Sunny still in his jacket. This conversation still got way too heavy for him to care about, as he rounds the corner. Only to hear that he named the Tangrowth Linguini, and Ashley's mouth curves upwards. That was the first genuine chuckle he had that didn't feel somber, but almost cheery.

"Sick name." No sarcasm in his whisper, he loved the convention. He almost wants to give the Tangrowth a high five, but Sunny pops out of the jacket onto Ashley's shoulder, holding up a paw of his own.

Welp. High five or not.

"What's fresh, Linguini?" Another whisper, low to not attract attention.

Oh... they were gonna do this by hand. Right. Ashley felt more sick that he had to be near it still, but he takes solace in the fact that Zev was by the head... for five seconds. Because now, he got a full scan of the guy, and he could feel himself wanting to hurl again. But he swallows down that disgusting taste, wordlessly gripping the ankles, and helping Zev with the deed as Reinhardt dug.

Maybe it's the fact that Zev just dug into those pockets and took the wallet, the phone, the keys, the map, but it turned the corpse into not a thing, but a person, and that is what nearly brought Ashley to drop him.

But.

He can't explain it. A fear creeping up his spine. If he drops them, what Zev could say... or do. Zev can do it so seamlessly too. This. It was terrifying. It's this terrifying respect from Ashley. He decides not to push his luck. No dropping the guy. Nope.

When Reinhardt jumps out, the hole dug enough, Ashley helps best he can to get the body in the hole. He's almost dry heaving, but he keeps his composure. "There. I'll start filling the hole." Out of sight, out of mind, right?

The realization hits Ashley like a ton of fucking bricks, and he stops, backing off, a hateful glare from him once the stranger's story was done. And it all comes back to him. The Lighthouse, Kanto. Those tender years in Rocket. And with it, he backs away. It was Jayden.

"Why was I so stupid? Stop trying to get close to me."

He turns on a dime, and with it, any remote tender moment the two had, it's gone. He's not even caring anymore, Ashley is gone, walking the hell away.

He's gonna go look for kepler brueshaber . Wherever he is.

Tempest was rowing, and damn he was rowing well, and what with the Moltres on their ass, Ash couldn't have asked for a better captain of the ship, and dodging flames, watching flames hit the waters of the river had him grinning. There's a chance, even if Bass wasn't able to land his Supersonic, at least Temp kept them safe.[break][break]

Life has a way of catching up to him though. When Kepler speaks, Ashley's head turns. "What...?" Words are daggers. Every guilty feeling, every regret he felt came to the surface, readying to have him release like a seasick sailor overboard, but with a swallow down, but it was Kep... HIS words that brought him back from this hell that found its way back to him. He could see the hand making a fist, readying to knock him out. Or try. He envies for a moment the lives of his crewmates. Who didn't bear the cross so much as him.[break][break]

When Kep jumps towards the Moltres, and the Moltres attempts to annihilate him, Ashley's eyes never leave Kep for a moment. It's all he can do to just watch. His heart is in his throat, but watching the blast of fire arc off that protect has him return to reality.[break][break]

His legs feel like lead, but once they hit the shore, Ashley snatches the Cleanse Tag Isaac had offered. However, with his arm that just healed that he promised the doctor not to lift heavy shit with, he grabs Isaac from the boat, throws himself back into the boat (to at least get a better footing) and leaps from the boat, readying himself for impact. The pain in his wrist is immaculate, he knew he shouldn't have done it, but dammit, he had to. He wasn't letting Isaac die. "Not without you, not again!" His words are like a Houndoom's bark, vicious, not willing to relent at all. He's envious of Isaac for a moment.[break][break]

Okay, enough with this bullshit envy in this bullshit place![break][break]

Towards Tempest, he holds a hand out, to pull him, and even Bass is trying to help get him, Gimmighoul, Isaac, and Hearth out, and here at their destination; a tree.[break][break]

It's however, when the little Noibat is pulling with all his might on Temp's sleeve, trying to help this stressful moment for his Trainer that has helped him so much, that Ashley watches with his silver eyes as the flash of white blinds him. Replaced with the powerful wings of the sound dragon, who can with relative ease help the remaining crewmates. With it, Ashley sees the opportunity that it is.[break][break]

"Bass?"[break][break]

The Noivern smiles and gives a happy, huskier squawk, and Ashley smiles, as he turns to face Kepler and the Moltres. One step at a time. He just needed to think. So he throws himself forward. "Slash it out the sky. I'll be okay, Bass." The Noivern screams out loud, blasting from his bigger ears as he collides to slice that Moltres up with a AIR SLASH, and Ashley confronts Kepler. With a scream of anger from the Moltres, Bass the Noivern goes ham, taking that heat with a booming burst of his own. (Not the move, it just sounds cool.)[break][break]

Man, he loves Dragon Types.[break][break]

"You got somethin' to say? Fuckin' say it." He cracks his knuckles. His silver eyes peer on, a scary, hateful Rocket once more as he hatefully stares at whatever is in his boyfriend. "I don't have time to deal with your bullshit. Don't know who you are, and I don't care. I just had the best year of my life, and you're not about to ruin it by taking what's mine. You're dead. Remember your place in hell and stay there."[break][break]

Then his face softens. "It's going to be okay, Kepler. I promise."[break][break]

He had no way of knowing that. But his expression darkens again. "Let's go, motherfucker." He charges towards Kepler, readying the Cleanse Tag. He had no time for what ifs. This was working. It had to.[break]

Muddy brown, reflexive spike defense mechanism, poison typed, and takoyaki? That paints a wild image in Ashley's head, as he imagines a big Quiladen-sized Quagsire rolling around the mud., but in truth, the dynamic trio behind him did so much better than he could ever imagine. But creative interpretation was definitely the best compliment it could have.

It was the Big Woop alright, and though Ashley never turns, he does shoot Eris a big smile. "Oh? On a one-Ponyta open-sleigh?" He has to give a slightly joking quip, but when his eyes shot over towards what looked like a Snorunt and a Bastiodon, he quickly ignores the both, in lieu of just... talking.

"Ever been sledding? It's really fun, especially if a Pokemon is made for it. Like that big girl you caught. The dragon-y one." He makes a smile, looking back towards his own Pokemon finally...

...

He chooses to ignore the Snowboy.

"If I didn't have a healing arm, I'd show you, but I didn't bring my big ones. Guess another time, huh?"

It was probably true, those Burn Heals he had would have probably made things a little difficult, but at least he was able to not only bring just in case. Preparation was everything. If he had a flier, he'd probably feel a lot better about joining Shalin's future expeditions, but... this would be enough for now.

While Shalin slumbers, Ashley proceeds to apply whatever Burn Heal spray he can on Rielle and Letheia, it being being hot enough in hear to require Ashley to wipe his brow. "Maple. Right next to her. Do your thing." The Glaceon quitely moves closer, and begins to hum, allowing the SNOW CLOAK around his form to help cool the sweating girl, as he takes one arm at a time, to apply the spray onto her elbows as well.

At least she would wake up with just some light wounds. Best to apply the burn heal now, after all it would help for later. It'd be a nasty case of sunburn later.

He shudders. Sunburn. He's glad he was over that from Farhan's Solar Beam up on Mt. Pyre.

"Sheesh, Shalin. You gonna sleep here? Might be a good idea to hop out of this place before you sleep, don'tcha think?" He can't help but smile. Shalin is an old friend. Even if their views are opposed. He just hopes... he never has to show that to her. Ever.

She just appeared this way? Ashley laughs, it's enough to pull bricks from the corners of lips, and enough to put him in a much more pleasant state of affairs. With the tie slowly put on, adjusted, looped, fastened, and the straigtened shirt, he can't help but smile. She just came like this? Wow. Where could he do the same?

Lucky me.

When it's time for them to go, he nods. "Yeah. We should think up names. IDs for ourselves, the like. Will keep heat off our lives. And those we choose to surround ourselves with." He explains, quickly turning on his heel a moment, to see the mirror. He looked so different.

He kinda liked how his hair was parted this way.

"Shall we, Miss Bouvier?" He holds his arm up for her to loop her own through. He wasn't particularly too tall, sitting at five foot eleven, just under the big six, he doesn't seem the tallest, but he does look warmly towards Nanette. Friendly.

"I'm thinking Mr. Schwartz, myself."

Well, isn't that just cute. A friend of Isaac, a friend of his. Ashley chuckles, leaning back, and listened to his story. A trip to his parents, turning a badge into a ring, and-

He stops. Huh. That Josh? He tilts his head a little. "You don't say." Better that guy didn't get into more trouble by being near him. Ashley didn't want to put Raikou through that hell of having to find out. There were a bunch of Leaguers he felt that for. But watching this total stranger-now-friend smile the way he did... it fills him with Beautiflies he all too well knew the feeling of from Kepler.

So he just gives a whistle. "You're gonna want a cake then. Or something." Ashley takes a moment to look like the most important person in the room with know-how.

"I might have picked up some baking when I was out of the org. If it's a favor to a friend, I can do it for a big ol'discount!" He makes a shrug with one hand, a smug smirk on his lips as his silvers look away.

Ashley's stomach growls. Loudly. A long, hard day in physical therapy attempting to gain normal function in his right arm has Ashley hungrier than he thought, and liquids and the like weren't foods he wanted to ingest. Frankly, despite how unhealthy a cookie was, it was like a monkey's paw. Saying yes, means he loses out on his spite, wishing Jayden would go play hopscotch in the street.

... and then he remembers he's hungry. His stomach growls again. And without even a word of thanks, he swipes a chocolate fudge cookie with his left hand, placing a part of it in his mouth, and lays back defeated.

Damn him and actually making better food than a hospital.

With a bite taken, he takes a bit into his mouth, and realizes quickly how much he loves getting food delivered. ana fell and kepler brueshaber were truly amazing, and Jayden, well... he scowls. He's still bitter. "Aren't you a good little boy scout." It's definitely sarcasm, to such a poisonous degree that Ashley half doesn't realize he's saying it. He's so bitter, it just comes out an extra coating of abhorrence to his former best friend.

"... murderer." He practically hisses it out with a full mouth, too quiet to be heard to anyone but himself. With another bite, he swallows down his own hypocrisy in the form of chocolatey fudge. Dammit it tasted good.

Geez, it's uncomfortable in here. Sunny was a warm spot, but the air is almost like pulling teeth. He doesn't really want to talk, but he was ordered to assist. He needed to. Which meant he had to get over it. So he swallows his pride, pets his Scorbunny on the head, and just answered.

"Occam's razor usually puts the Rocket idea in my head first. Comes with the territory. Lot of good people. Lot of bad people. Every reason under the sun, and they're in Hoenn to boot." Mint's own reason is simple. Money. Ash was projecting, truthfully, and he gave himself the excuses. He thought Mint was a pretty face? Rocket. He meets a cool dude on a beach in Isaac? Rocket. He goes out to lunch with Isaac's friend, Kepler? Rocket. He goes on the beach and talks about Slowpokes with Mars?

Point proven.

Still. It's when Jayden's name comes up, that he shrivels, but it isn't a frown. This time, it's confusion. Mint can see conflict arise in the young man, and he places an arm on the window of the vehicle, head turning it out. "Yeah. Me too. Though I'd blame myself more, personally." He closes his eyes. Flashing back to the lighthouse with the knife. The border dome with Theo.

He laughs. That was weird. Why did he laugh? He hated them both. "He a friend of yours? Jayden, that is?" He wants to ask how he's doing, but that question is lost in his throat.

If this were merely a test of Ashley's constitution, he probably had shamed Zev, to some degree with such a disgusting showing. Of course, it's not his first kill, so the harrowing hellscape that his mind would wallow in likely wouldn't completely consume him like that first time. But it still... it hit him. That feeling of taking life. That self-loathing, painful years with Theo, they all come flooding back, as he can feel that bile on his tongue.

He'd probably take a few days to look at himself now. He wondered if Kep could look at him, but he quietly reasons to himself this makes him stronger. This makes him a better Rocket. This puts him in a position.

He needs this. For him.

That's the beginning of the lie.

"Y-Yeah..." He starts, holding out his Pokeball now, releasing what is a Nidorino onto the scene, Reinhardt giving a look at Ashley, a squinted glare to Zev, but a concerned shot back towards Ashley. The Nidorino was not impressed. When Ashley gives the command, he grows a little more spine. "Earth Power. Dig up a small hole."

It doesn't take long for the Nidorino to do just that, throwing his legs up, and smashing them into the ground, former a new small crater in the ground, enough so to allow for more work to be done, as Reinhardt begins to dig. Ashley turns to Zev. "... thanks. I know I'm not the best for this, or even a great student. But I appreciate your teaching." Despite this road not being one Ashley ever wanted to re-acknowledge. Oh well.
