Clearly there was no getting out of work today, which was unfortunate. It wasn't like it worked any other time, though sometimes Lam could be persuaded. "Gambeson, yes. Makes you look like a buff marshmallow." He grinned at that, wondering if he could work him with some goofy charm. His skills lied in more subtle ways, not so much physically dominating but in talking his way out. Not quite charm, but definitely something more bizarre and a little pathetic.

"Well I can't help that I have so many." He whined at the little poke and prod. Lam was trying to prove a point and, with anyone else, it might have been more powerful. With Rook, it was just an excuse to whine. Though, he didn't want to aggravate Lam or even make him think he didn't take this at all seriously. He knew why he needed to learn these things, but he wasn't good at it.

He shrugged at that question, "I dunno guess this always just makes me feel kinda useless, is all." To most of his tutors, he was something of a useless prince. His parents seemed tolerant only because they had no other choice. It wasn't like he chose to be an heir. Sometimes, he figured he'd be the downfall of the kingdom.

With a insolent sigh, he lifted the practice sword again. "Avast ye." He howled. At least maybe he could seem to try and finally warrant the other's pity. With a little glare, he swung the sword in an arc, trying to hit the other in that very same vulnerable spot. It was a clumsy effort, fueled by petty temper more than actual skill or willingness. He was a lazy creature who just wanted to sit around and eat grapes or watch theater... fun stuff like that.

"What— ow!" He whined, rubbing at his head. It wasn't that he wasn't paying attention, it was that multiple things were warring for his attention. None of which were necessarily more important than what Lam was trying to teach him. In the effort to spar, he'd already dropped his fake sword (once on his foot) and got his butt spanked by the flat of a fake sword repeatedly whenever he dove to get a hit. Still, he didn't exactly learn from his mistakes, he just got more frustrated (and whiney) in result.

"I was paying attention," He quickly interjected before Lam could chide him when he had clearly been not paying attention. It was difficult and Rook wasn't very good at it. "You know, it's just awful hard to pay attention when you just look so strapping in your um... whatever sparring gear..." He motioned at the other's clothing in a poor attempt to draw the other's attention away from himself. Maybe he could manage to make Lam coy enough to forget what he'd been talking about. It used to work back when they were kids, but it had been a long time since then.

"I don't even need to because you're going to be there so," He shrugged, a poor excuse knowing that his ineptitude could only be detrimental in the event of an emergency, but so too was any effort he put in to protect himself. He hurt himself far more often than Lam could manage in a single sparring match.

Granted, this was way better than anything his tutors could think to throw on him. He was almost a little surprised none of them had managed to hunt him down and drag him away from Lam with the threat of language or, even worse, dance lessons (ugh).

Ikarus sat up at that, arm stiffly perching him over the mattress as he looked down at Lam. "Yeah, I know that." He wished he could say that it was 100% certain, that he did in fact know. The truth was little threads of doubt had always managed to hold him back. The only difference now was that he wasn't coming completely unraveled at the seams. Lam made him feel a little stronger now than he used to be, but maybe he wasn't giving himself enough credit.

It was just a dumb game, he knew that. With a sigh, he sank back down beside the other. Even with the chill of still-wet hair, he felt comforted and warm. Lam was right though, he knew that. His father had never been the type to be happy with anything. He'd been miserable no matter what anyone tried to do for him. Nothing had ever been enough to compensate for his own sourness. Rook could only sigh at that, not knowing what to say.

"Dunno, guess a trip back to Sinnoh?" He shrugged at that, not really sure if he had the courage to even do it. "You're probably right though." Even if it didn't feel completely right at that moment, maybe he'd appreciate it in the end. "Gonna think on it, okay?"

Rook felt guilty, watching Snorlax faint. It felt almost somewhat even more shocking considering how big it was. It probably should have been exhilarating, and it was, but it was also the unfortunate part of battling. If anything, he shouldn't have been distracted by it because before he knew what was happening, the tinkaton was crashing down on Jinx and she was fainting quickly after. He winced, recalling her back. "You did a good job." Sometimes it was just a bad pairing and, in this case, that was true.

After that it was 1v1 again, just his nidoqueen and her tinkaton. The buzz of his nerves felt like they tripled in that time and yet also evolved into something more defined. It felt more like adrenaline. He probably wouldn't win, but he would try his best. He redirects queenie then and she lashes out at the Tinkaton with SUPER POWER.

"You have been, I'm sure of it." He grinned at that, but it was weighted with sleepy warmth and something far more longing than he was used to. Nothing and no one had ever really touched him the way that Lam did. It felt special, like something just for him. His breath caught as little kisses traced over his skin. They were small, but they lit fires along his skin, burning him up until all he could feel was that warmth. Lam made him feel beautiful, it was bizarre. Rook had never learned to love himself, but Lam helped him. The other seemed to make it his personal goal to make Rook feel differently about himself.

The other man seemed to kiss him in a way that was nearly reverent, worship skin that had once been beaten and cut and burned. He was nothing, yet Lam made him feel like everything. Maybe it was dangerous to feel so much because of the actions of another person, but it just felt so damn nice right then that he didn't resist the weakness of it. His breath caught again, slipping free in a little whimper. "Please, don't stop."

Every word was soft yet it had a near guttural effect on him. It wasn't a bad thing, but it was powerful. He smothered the warmth in his eyes with the back of his wrist. "You're gonna make me cry, saying stuff like that."

“You’re everything t’me.” His other hand knotted into the sheets, trembling a little before reaching down to pull him back up. He pressed a hungry, needy kiss against Lam's lips. "I love you so much."

"Not usually a dog fan, but all these guys are so cute and unique." There wasn't a pokemon in Hoenn or beyond that Rook wouldn't qualify as cute though. He loved all of them, though the odd ones were obviously his favorites. It was nice to finally take the time to do something like this with Lam. Before meeting him, most of the time was spent alone or in the stunted silence of awkward company. Or talking to his pokemon who weren't great conversationalists. But now he had someone, someone that actually cared to hear him talk and wanted to hang out with him. It was nice.

"Oh an umbreon." He gasped before slipping closer. "Hey little buddy, how are you doing?" The umbreon flicked a long ear, staring up at him with curious eyes as he attempted to catch.

Most of his insecurities were in his head. It was very likely that no one would even noticed the little telltale scars on his body. To him, they looked horrendous and he made a big fuss at covering them everyday, but he knew that Lam didn't care. Lam just saw him and that was all that really mattered to him. It had helped, of course, that the other had shown him such loving adoration. He'd kissed every scar until they tingled, until Rook felt something other than dread and disgust.

He followed Lam as the other slipped down into the water. The warmth touched his toes first, making his shiver. The smell of minerals and heat lingered in his nose, a nice sorta smell that he wasn't familiar with. "It is."

Rook slipped into the water, long legs noodling out as he rolled back onto his back. It was goofy and he laughed, before rolling back up until only his head and shoulders were above the surface of the water. "Yeah, can be a little congratulatory treat." Rook wasn't sure just how well he'd do in the gym scene, though he knew that Lam was definitely going to succeed either way. Even then, Rook was still willing to try. It might turn out to be enjoyable.

As he was pulled in, his arms slipped around Lam's shoulders. "Thank you for this, really." He kissed the tip of his nose, "It was really thoughtful." Then he pressed a kiss to the other's lips.

"I do, I say so." He scoffed, rolling his eyes though not in a severe way. Rook knew that he could be extremely unfair to himself most times. As far as he was concerned, he was the problem in every equation and that didn't change regardless of who he was with. Now, he had this amazing boyfriend and his life had turned in this fantastic direction, but still there was this stormcloud. It was him, he was the storm.

It had to be hard, being around someone with so much baggage. Especially for someone as chill as Lam. Yet the other man was so patient with him. He was always there for him. Rook couldn't help but fear that the other would regret that, one day. Wasting so much time on him.

Rook felt a little guilty for teaming up on the poor snorlax, it felt like a dirty tactic. However, wasn't that the name of the game? Maybe he didn't have the spirit to be a trainer, like his boyfriend. It wasn't in his nature to want to hurt pokemon, but he wanted to be better still. Maybe it got easier with more experience.

He grimaced though as Queenie was pulverized by a giga impact, a nasty hit that had her reeling. Though it was the massive attack from the Tinkaton that drew his immediate attention. Jinx wasn't gonna go another hit at this rate. She was barely clinging on as it was. "Queenie," He drew her attention to the Tinkaton, she last out with Earth Power. Meanwhile Jinx last ditch effort as a DARK PULSE on the snorlax. This was entirely too close for his liking.

Most of his experience with pokemon had been befriending the unwanted ones in dumpsters. Most of his passion for them had been odd adoptions, dumpster diving with poison types or sneaking into places he wasn't supposed to be with ghosts. It wasn't exactly the right setup for battling, maybe. His boyfriend had been the one to talk him into it and he still wasn't sure if he was quite as good as the other said he was, but alas... he would try. Not just for Lam but for himself.

Whoever controls the battle, controls the conclusion — that much he did know. He liked games, maybe he would have been better suited for her carnival aesthetic (because he was a clown). Johana was good though, he had to give her that. She was splitting up the team, forcing them into a fight they weren't designed to win.

He gritted his teeth as Queenie was hit with the brunt of the heavy slam, knocking her back. Yet she braved the most of it, albeit pretty stubbed by the looks of it. She righted herself, retaliating with SUPER POWER. Meanwhile, Jinx was not in a position to win against the Tinkaton. Taking the hit from the draining kiss, clearly was enough of a first hit to make him worried. So, instead he redirected her back to the Snorlax, handle one before the other. She attacked him simultaneously with DARK PULSE.

The last thing he wanted to do was make things more difficult for Lam after he'd gone and done all of this for him. He'd taken him to the most romantic place and spent all this money. The least he could do in exchange was put his insecurities on rest and simply enjoy himself. As Lam returned to him, he worked the first bandage away, expertly unwrapping as his fingers had grown rather adept at doing. "What? No, it's not a problem. I'm okay with it."

He'd never been to a hot spa before, but had seen plenty of them in depictions on different medias. Taking the other's hand, he followed him out to the baths. "Oh wowww, these are super cool." It was true, he was easily pleased. It didn't take a lot of gravitas to provoke surprise or amazement.

Lam's touches had weight right then. Of course, the other was always touchy-feeling (not in a bad way), but there was also a carefulness to his usual contact. Rook knew that he could be difficult to figure out. There was still a lot of damage in him left over from his past and only Lam had seemed patient enough to handle that part of him. He'd likely never know how to show him how much he appreciated it though.

Right then, Lam's affection was different, likely because he was too drunk to really put forth the extra caution that he usually showed. Not that Rook was ever really going to tell him no. Not that he'd ever wanted too. Sometimes, he got spooked, it was like raising a hand too fast around a beaten dog. It was ingrained and that didn't go away too easily. Mostly, he was just always surprised that Lam even wanted to touch those parts of him that were less than aesthetically appealing. Maybe Rook was shallow like that or vain, he didn't want to be seen in all his imperfection, but Lam didn't care. He liked him anyways.

Lam pulled away with a frown before he could process what he was saying. It seemed like a pretty simple sentiment, he'd had other people mirror the same disgust. Granted, the scars had diminished a lot over time, so maybe it wasn't as bad as it used to be. He just imagined what he wanted, the horror he'd seen. The reason he bandaged them was entirely psychological and he wasn't ignorant to that fact.

His face heated up as Lam looked him in the eye and responded. For a moment, a knot formed in his throat and he felt a mixture of emotions he couldn't really parse through. Part of him wanted to cry at such a simple sentiment, but he didn't. Lam didn't think that, wasn't that good enough? "Okay." He said a little breathless as Lam pushed him back onto the bed. His breath shuddered as he exhaled, lying still though he glanced up curiously. "What are you planning?" The question was swallowed up beneath lips that he pressed back up into. His skin shivered as lips traced down his neck and he forced himself to relax, maybe this wasn't so bad after all.
