If anything good comes of this tournament, it’s that she feels a little bit confident in her own skin again. And she feels that much more bonded with the mightyena who walks close to her as they make their way up to the pitch for what be their last battle of the grouping pool.[break][break]

By this point, she’s gotten the hang of things a little bit more, and she points to herself and the canine in sparse introduction. “Blue, and Bonnie.” With little else to say the mightyena steps forward in preparation. The light from Blue’s tera orb activates in a bright glow that coats Bonnie in a terastalized poison glow.

Bonnie was strong this round.[break][break]

“Finish things up, pup.”[break][break]

She’s amped up, Blue can tell from the way that Bonnie bounces on her paws that she’s just waiting to get that last hit in.[break][break]

With a glowing silver tail swung at her with heavy, leaden force, the mightyena ducks around the blow—nimble in the way she rears back on her hind legs. Then she darts in again, jaws clamping down to CRUNCH on the wide part of that very same tail to fling the pikachu away.

Another terastalized creature— Blue’s obvious awe and curiosity continues as the crystallization weaves itself over the salamence so beautifully. It sweeps over his scales and she stares at the way it glimmers like far off starlight.[break][break]

She’d thought Bonnie’s violet-sheened coat to be a lovely sight, but this was something else entirely. Her admiration remains muted, however. She doesn’t voice any praise for the creature as he swipes out with sharpened claws at her companion. They catch Bonnie in the shoulder and she yelps—then snarls in defiance at the massive beast.[break][break]

Blue is as unfamiliar with dragons as her opponent is to canines. But admittedly, this makes her curious. The raw power there—what is it like to harness it?[break][break]

She banks on her mightyena’s ardent loyalty, though. There are few things she can count on in her life, fraught with anxiety and paranoia as it has become. But her dogs are certainly one of those things.[break][break]

Despite the swipe, the mightyena hurls herself forward again, toxicity ramping up as she flings toward one of the salamence’s legs, POISON FANGS trying to burrow themselves in the slivered, soft gaps between sturdy scales.

Blue flashed the other woman the most solemn thumbs up, though it could have been considered a gesture of good sportsmanship. “You got it.” She looked over at her mightyena and nodded, and the canine let out a whiny huff of understanding.[break][break]

With a whistle, Bonnie sprang forward on cue—only to be enveloped in the light that absorbed her from the activated tera orb in Blue’s hand. When she reemerged she was coated in poison terastalization.[break][break]

Teeth shining in a wide grin for the zoroark, the mightyena surged forward again with bolstered energy. Closing the distance before she snapped out at it with POISON FANGS.

Bonnie’s lips pull back to reveal sharp teeth in a mirrored grin. Just because she’d leveled things out, doesn’t mean the mightyena intended to keep it that way. Her paws dug in, claws sinking into the earth to hold her ground.[break][break]

She holds her fanged grip for as long as she can, but rolls back when the DRAGON HAMMER collides with her to send her skidding back. She curls in on herself for a moment, then springs out! Charging at Tsukiko, to TAKE DOWN her opponent.

She snorted out an amused breath, “That’s a relief.”[break][break]

A brow rose, though, when he insinuated his own role within the circuit.
Clean(ish?) cut guy like him? Color her surprised.[break][break]

“Oh yeah? Funny how that works.” She didn’t tend to meet too many brawlers around. But his next question actually drew a real, genuine bark of laughter when the realization set in. “A cop.” She laughed again. “Formerly. I just kind of bounce around these days.”[break][break]

No need to mention that she had been a mole in the PD and an enforcer after that. Or that THEO BECKETT was preventing her from successfully leaving. “You?” So okay, maybe she didn’t mind this guy.[break][break]

At the very least, this was probably the chattiest she’d been in the tourney.[break][break]

Bonnie yelped as the lapras blew her back with a blast of draconic energy. She skidded across the pitch then rolled back to her feet, baying loudly as she dove toward the other Pokémon with maw opened, full of POISON FANGS.

The TERA BLAST that comes certainly catches Bonnie at close range before she can leap away. The mightyena stumbles on staggering paws as the noxious cloud muddles up her senses. A low whine rumbles in her throat as she tries to shake off the attack.[break][break]
Despite the fuzziness in her head from the toxicity, she retaliates with a poison attack of her own—lunging in to nip at Tsukiko with POISON FANGS.

The unexpected attack makes its mark— Bonnie isn’t at all expecting the blow that comes when she lands atop the wooper.[break][break]
The watery smack drives the air from her belly in a wuff of sound and she jumps away, shaking her fur out. Most of her attacks are hands on, though, and she has to jump in again to chomp on the little guy’s tail with POISON FANGS.

The mightyena watches Tofu tumble away, tail swishing.[break][break]
Blue nods, approval filtering into her expression—though mildly so. “Good job, Bon. Keep it up.”[break][break]
Eager to please, the canine barks before barreling forward again. The ELECTRO BALL catches her in the flank as she tries to dodge, and another yelp rockets out of her—followed by a growl.[break][break]
Pushing through the static that tries to lock up her limbs, she charges the pikachu in a TAKE DOWN tackle.

There was no way that Bonnie was holding up to the power of that z-move. She’d weathered one earlier in the tourney and had come out on top, but the zeraora’s prior attack had already done a number on her. She was already staggering, trying to keep her footing so that she could gear up for her next move.[break][break]
But the cat was moving too fast—even for the TOXIC spray to slow his pace. Her effort had been too little too late. The mightyena struggled to track Raikiri’s movements as he sped up to little more than a golden blur on the field. It was a futile attempt. The electrified attack crashed into her and Bonnie crumpled like a stone falling heavy on the floor of the pitch.[break][break]
Blue whistled low at the intensity of the move as she raised a pokeball to recall her companion in a beam of light. “That was next level,” she muttered aloud, mostly to herself. Then she looked up at the gym leader with a short nod. “Good game.”

She’s maybe getting a little bit better at this. Blue still thinks she’s a far cry from a decent trainer—no matter how loyal her primary pokemon are, or how well they listen. The mightyena by her side included. But she’s learned more throughout the course of this tournament than she’d thought she would. She’s peeked out of her taciturn, isolated shell, becoming a little more settled under the constant weight of audience eyes. She’s figured out she could actually be sort of decent at this whole casual battling thing.[break][break]

That it’s sort of fun.[break][break]

Enough to feel a bit eager going into her next match. Not enough to remove the stiffly awkward and impassive expression from her face—she cannot manage perky, and probably won’t ever will. But her eyes are maybe a little bit brighter. She tries her hand at smiling over to her opponent again, and ducks her head in formal greeting. “Good luck.”

It proved much more fun for Bonnie to spar against the ninetails, it seemed, than it had with other opponent’s pokemon. Perhaps because the ninetails reminded her of the alolan vulpix that Blue kept at home–a gift courtesy of Shinra Moro. Though they used attacks, it seemed much more like excited play.[break][break]

The sight was enough to bring a wider smile to Blue’s otherwise impassive expression, and some of that excitement began to rub off on the trainer. The DRAGON HAMMER certainly caught the mightena off guard. The swing sent her skidding, but she popped back up quickly enough and she shook out her fur–violet crystals clinking together.[break][break]

Bonnie’s head tipped back with a short howl before she charged in on Tsukiko, paws out to batter at her with a SUCKER PUNCH.

A torrent of mud smacks into the mightyena’s face, and she yelps. Head shaking once more to dispel disgusting substances shot at her from the little pipsqueak of a wooper.[break][break]

The poison makes her sluggish, but Bonnie pushes through her heavy steps to pounce on the other pokemon and PLAY ROUGH with him.

The zeraora clearly didn’t take too kindly to Bonnie’s method of attack. Blue winced at the thundercat’s effort to heave her off of him was successful. The mightyena yelped as she rolled across the pitch before her claws dug into the ground and she skidded to a stop. Her legs wobbled as she pushed herself back up to all fours. It was a bit of a struggle, but she wasn’t quitting just yet.[break][break]

A growl, followed by a series of barks, were hurled at the feline before Bonnie sprang, paws thudding as she opened her maw to let a howl of TOXIC air spray out at her opponent. If anything, at least, to slow Raikiri down.
