Much as he wanted to go fast right as the starting noise went off, he knew that he would have to bide his time… even if it was a major pain in the ass.

“C’mon, Ri, let’s show ‘em what we’re made of!” he would snicker quietly as he slid into position and off they went!

The starting part of a race would always be the most complicated to weave through; considering everyone was trying to gain distance and the beginnings of the front, the middle and the back of the pack would form.

He idly wondered how the rider who had an Aegislash and—and Mister Froakie would deal with having to go underwater!

“Don’t overshoot, now!” he would cheer his Mantine on, leaning into the wind and going with the flow. He was even feeling a little daring, so he’d dip his hand into the surf before realizing one part of the track suddenly appeared to be underwater!

“And that’s why… I have these!” he would chirp as he quickly pulled something out from his shorts pocket—a pair of plugs for the nose—the ones used by synchronized swimming teams in their artistic underwater routines for when they had to stay underwater for as long as they could.

Slipping the plug on as quickly as possible before the Mantine would dive, he would leap into the air at the exact same moment Ri the Mantine would sink lower into the waves—

He would hit the water in a jackknife dive before hanging onto one of the Mantine’s flippers as they made their way through the first underwater obstacle!

Hopefully they’d be able to come out of this without falling too far behind…

The shining, burnished blue ‘metal’ of the Kingambit that had presided over one part of the docks would be easily spotted even from above.

The reason why Lonq was out here today was because some people needed some things that were metallic in nature to be taken care of; and Jack had the belated realization that the Kingambit could easily cut through steel beams like it was butter.

So, off the Kingambit went for the afternoon, taking over one side of the dock while he used Kowtow Cleave on the bigger sheets of metal to cut them down to size.

Geez, what were the humans making, and why did they need this much metal?! So weird.

One would be wondering—where was he, anyway?

Well, he was busy making sure that his Mantine, Ri, was already prepared to go out there—having come in for a last-minute adjustment… of course he wasn’t telling anyone what the adjustment was. They’d have to wait and see for themselves what it was.

For now, though—

He was busy applying as much sunblock as he could all over his exposed legs, himself, his arms; hell even his nose had a liberal layer of sunblock on it because when was the last time he’d come out here to surf?!

(Yes, he was determined to show everyone that Mantine Surfing wasn’t just something to be terrified of!)

“Surprised, aren’t you, Ri?” he hummed quietly as he squirted out the last of the sunblock and liberally lathered it all over his bare top (with some difficulty reaching his back, but it was there all the same too).

“I know you’ve been itching—no, dying to be out on the waves again. Well, here we are. I kept my promise, didn’t I? Don’t let me down now,” he would chuckle quietly afterward.

They weren’t even done yet, because lo and behold—there was something else that joined the fray; and this time it was a—

“Whoa!” he yelped as the Applin fell down in some mockery of this famous guy that had discovered what ‘gravity’ was.

Surely, the Applin had managed to Astonish Jack due to their surprise appearance!

The Absol was all pistons firing, growling and hackles raised as she quickly lashed out with a Night Slash on the Applin, very much intent on cleaving the poor thing into several pieces if they weren’t fast enough to either get out of the way, or get the hell out of range!

“Why are you so mad…?!” he exclaimed as the Applin then Withdrew into the gooey red shell, only… only for them to start using Rollout a few moments afterward; screaming bloody murder like a bowling ball would to a bunch of pins at the end of an alleyway.

And why are all the Pokémon we’re encountering acting like it’s bloody murder?! he thought as the Absol lashed out with a Psycho Cut in an attempt to stop the rampaging Rollout coming from the Applin.

Eventually, the Applin would smack themselves into a tree; while he would quickly throw the third of his four Safari Balls…

They were literally running out of time, because the next thing they realized was that they had walked straight into a Magical Leaf trap and there was an angry little Petilil that was screaming bloody murder at them for ‘ruining her fun’ or something along those lines.

Of course, he was only guessing what the Grass-type was so cheesed about as another barrage of Magical Leaves came flying towards him and the Absol!

“Yow! Hey, watch it!” he yelped; and that was all the impetus his Absol needed to suddenly lash out with a Night Slash attack; shredding the leaves into tiny little pieces before she ran the distance and closed it with a surprise Sucker Punch that sent the Petilil flying—

“Don’t throw her out of the picture!” he exclaimed as he chased after the Grass-type and threw the second of his four Safari Balls at the poor thing; sooner or later Cordy would have an absolute rival of a unit down the road…

What an ode to irony, because as funny as it was…

Yes, he was lost.

Again.

But this time, though he’d gotten himself ‘lost’ right at this strange-looking tree that had equally-gnarly branches, that were fanning out overhead and looming like some ominous kind of mushroom that had decided to sprout where they’d ended up.

“Huh,” he mused quietly as he took a glance at the trunk of the tree and noticed that there was some kind of seal on the tree trunk itself…

What in the world?

He was just as surprised as Maoja when it came to the—

“Hey, I’m just as surprised as you!” he exclaimed as he looked over to the second Wooloo that his silly Yamper had herded from… well, somewhere!

All too soon, Lis was approaching the other Wooloo with an Oran Berry in her mouth, before gently rolling it towards the other Wooloo in an attempt to get them to eat… and this was where he got an idea.

“Okay. I have an idea. Maoja, can I borrow your hand?” he asked his companion, suddenly realizing just how many Berries Lis had brought back.

“You keep the other Wooloo busy with the berries, and I’ll get ‘em cleaned up for you,” he hummed as he quickly picked up some of the other Berries that his own Wooloo hadn’t chomped on yet, before passing them over her way.

Meanwhile, he would retrieve his Lumineon’s Pokéball from his pocket, and popped the Water-type out in a flash of red light.

“I’m going to need your help—can you use Soak on—no, not Lis, the other Wooloo, please!” as his Water-type excitedly began to open fire, before he had a chance to correct the direction and got splashed instead.

Oy vey.

Hey, at least this was going to be an interesting experience, right?!

While she was busy musing over the different formes that he knew of, he’d already taken a big bite of the musubi (without an egg) and looked up in time to her next statement—

“Wait, what do you mean?” he asked her, curious.

Although, in a way he looked like he had ‘Greedent cheeks’ the way his face was puffed up because he was mid-chew when he noticed the way she’d worded what she wanted to say.

“Aw, c’mon, they look like just a normal Samu—” he trailed off, before he suddenly remembered how… how different her Samurott looked as compared to the normal ones from Unova.

“Wait. Are you telling me there are other Unovan formes out there asides from Yamask and Darumaka?” he blinked.

The moment she mentioned that she’d met her new Pokémon companion while they were on their way out—he had to do a backtrack and belatedly realized something.

“Wait… I didn’t see that Pokémon with you when we made our escape from here,” he mused quietly as he turned to her, before blinking a few times at the new Pokémon companion.

Definitely something to muse on later, he thought to himself as he began to whistle—

A few moments later, the sound of running would reach their ears; and his Absol would finally return back to them; fur all ruffled up and dirt-caked.

“Cordy! Where’d you run off to?!” he initially admonished the Absol, before running over and hugging her afterward. “Don’t run off like that, okay?”

All’s well that ends well, right?

Once he’d secured the Rookidee in the Safari Ball, it was off for the human and his Absol companion!

It wouldn’t take too long before they would eventually reach a part of the Safari Zone that had a waterside edge—was it bordering a lake, or some other body of water that was being fed directly into the landscape here?

He wasn’t sure.

Either way, he saw something… a strange… fish swimming in the shallows.

“No, Cordy. Don’t attack it,” he lightly warned the Absol, who was all but ready to swing her horn at the pink thing all pistons fired.

“Let’s go. We’re looking for something here, and we might run out of time.”

It wouldn’t take too long before something decided to swoop out of the trees above him in some kind of dive-bombing attack and—

Well—

“Whoa!” he yelped as he leapt out of the way—almost smacking hard into a tree as the Rookidee whirled around and cawed derisively at him.

“What? Hey!” he yelped as this time, he was on the receiving end of a Fury Attack and ow, ow, ouch, that fucking hurt!

“Why you gotta be so aggressive?!” he exclaimed as he tossed a Pokéball forward and summoned his Absol in mid-air; immediately watching as the white blur then lashed out with a surprise Night Slash on the aggressive Flying-type Pokémon that wanted to peck his eyes out.

“Rude!” he exclaimed as he then realized what was up—before the Rookidee whirled and then tried to attack the Absol this time with a Drill Peck.

“That’s a menace, Cordy, is what it is!” he exclaimed as the white blur then smacked it out of the air with a surprise Sucker Punch attack, sending it screeching before landing head-first onto the ground.

“And you’re going in here!” he exclaimed as he threw the first of his four Safari Balls at the Rookidee.

Oh, how he hated it when the fog got even thicker than the last time and then—

“Cordy?! Oh, I swear you’re going to get it—” he trailed off. This was before his fortunes decided to turn around by themselves and he would hear a familiar voice cutting through the gloom—

“Miss Elise?!” he exclaimed; turning around before blinking a few times to make sure he wasn’t seeing things.

“Who… who’s that Pokémon with you?” he asked her afterward as he continued to squint into the swirling mist up ahead.

His Absol just had to pull a fast one on him, and was most likely lost in the fog… bleh.
