However, as it soars across PETALBURG WOODS, it is unclear whether that old adage holds a kernel of truth anymore. And truth be told, the honesty, the probity, of this universe has forever been sundered. Like the 99943 Meteno meteoroid, this world marches toward RUINATION and the ORIGIN POINT: the daggers that will plunge into the heart of the multiverse.[break][break]

The CELEBI passes by berry trees, ancient glades, and the soiled space where it had once died. Killed by the blood-stained hands of Elisabeth Fiorelli and WO-CHIEN. The verdure has since returned to that plagued plain; however, the grasses remain thinner. Forever scarred.[break][break]

It continues to fly, sensing something amiss. Throughout the wood, TOXIC CHAINED GRASS-TYPE POKEMON stalk the CELEBI and all those who traverse it. Unfortunately, the CELEBI has been stricken with the disease. A TOXIC CHAIN has sprouted from its onion-like body; however, the forest fairy resists the virulent effects as much as it can.[break][break]

Both the League and Team Rocket have sent trainers into the forest to investigate or to purge the wild of these intoxicated abominations. Curiously, upon entering the wood, you will feel as if something is amiss. The flow of time appears to have shifted within this isolated space. However, it is difficult to perceive in what way time has changed.[break][break]

Once the CELEBI is saved, time will revert back to normal within the wood.

Audric sat against a large towering tree, his skin pale and his eyes slightly less colorful than usual. Around his arm, there's a TOXIC CHAIN. He grips it, wincing with pain, before tearing it off and casting it away. Removed from its host, it slowly begins to disintegrate. Though not before killing the foliage surrounding it.[break][break]

LUCY the CUFANT draws closer to him with a PECHA BERRY in the grasp of her trunk. With a worried mewl, she feeds it to Audric afterward. The ranger chews, his vision blurring as the poison attempts to end him. And, for a split-second there, he swears he sees CELEBI hovering just above him.[break][break]

The balance had been threatened. He needed to show Xerneas he could be worthy of the life bringer even without his support. It was his role, his purpose. Without a purpose, what was he? a ghost?[break][break]

He arrived in a flash, without the abilities granted to him by his ex patron, he did not want to stick around to find out if the poison would work on him. Act quickly and swiftly. In and out. [break][break]

No one could know he was not the life bringer anymore outside of rocket. Audino is sent out and immediately sends out a heal bell and tries to heal the celebi quickly. Bryan get shit by a poison attack from a grass type, corrupted by the chain and swallows a pecha berry. "Retreat" He was leaving already. it was a risk for him to stay any longer.

Audino scrambled behind him in a flash as she too began to feel ill.

in the middle of the forest, something does feel amiss. she can't quite put a finger on it, as if it's constantly staying in the peripheral vision and disappearing when you look in that direction.

[break][break]and it's annoying, she notes, to be so close to discovery yet so far away.

[break][break]half eaten pecha berries are scattered across the forest floor, already beginning to rot as small bug pokemon try to take pieces off and carry them home. she steps around them, palkia in tow, eyes up toward the crown shyness of the trees. celebi darts in an odd, jumbled pattern - the toxic chain draws her eyes regardless.

[break][break]"oh, you poor thing."

[break][break]she tries to ignore the way time feels splintered, but it's difficult to turn a blind eye. it's part of space and thus... part of her.

[break][break]with a glowing pink hand, she defends the celebi from the onslaught of poisoned grass types with a few quick volleys of spatial energy. palkia follows close behind, though it looks irritable at the disturbance of time. sometimes, its eyes wander toward the spaces between this plane and the next, as if looking for its counterpart and never quite finding it.

[attr="class","snub-greyson"]A sickness was spreading in these woods. The damage to this place, to no surprise, was Rocket's doing — but the impact was beyond the petty strife that was between the League and Rocket.

No, this impact was deeply rooted, and long-lasting. Pokémon had lost their homes, and for some even their lives. Life didn't exist here. Couldn't exist here, not really. It was clinging on; scraping by.

He's relieved that it didn't impact the entire forest.

Looking up, head clouded by this growing sickness, and by the strange effect present in these trees, he catches the flitting form of a Celebi. It was said good luck was bestowed upon those lucky enough to see the Pokemon in the wild, but the sound of an encroaching hoard only cemented the opposite.

"Let's make this one count," he says to the Comfeys' on his wrists. On cue one releases a pleasant scent, the AROMATHERAPY filling the forest and filtering out the stench of death, and decay. With luck, Celebi would benefit from this. With greater luck? The forest itself.

The other Comfey mewed softly in question, and Greyson nodded with a smile.

"Yeah, only a bit though." He knew she didn't like violence too much. With any luck, these SPRINGETIDE SWARMS would quell enough of these creatures for help to arrive in force.

Grigori slung the Pecha berries over his shoulder, roughly two-hundred-fifty poke dollars poorer as he trudged along the path in the Petalburg Woods. But it was necessary, unfortunately. Time was of the essence here: he must be fast enough to help, and to dodge any potential Rockets that might also roam these woods. They would not be happy if he was caught not kicking stray Yamper or throwing rocks at the Furrets that ran through the woods at breakneck paces.

Like the two that locked onto him. They snarled as they leapt over fallen logs to maul and maim him. In response, the grunt reached into the sack and pulled out a couple Pecha berries. "Please, let this work!"

They did not. But they did instead get the berries instead of his flesh. They chewed and ate them in record time, but remained infected. This was, perhaps, not the end of the world. Whatever Pokemon chased him, as he readied his stack to crush the Toxic Chains, were a few less that chased the Celebi.

"I can only hope," he said as he rocked the makeshift pendulum, "that this does anything at all."

Everything after that was a blur.

He knew that Petalburg Woods had an excess of Pecha Berries but…

What was going on? Why were those chains here?!

(In some other world, he may have begun using his tome like a spell book to burn away the chains, but that was not here.)

“This place is… cursed,” he quietly muttered to himself as he quickly picked up a few Pecha Berries, staying out of the line of sight of angry Pokémon as best as he could.

Which was going to be rather difficult, all things considered, as there were a multitude of Grass-type ‘mons that called this place home (Shroomish was one he could immediately identify) who were also trapped by the chains and were basically attacking anything that moved…

Petalburg Woods, the stomping grounds of Hoenn's bugcatching community, were in a mighty disarray.

Time itself was going haywire all about the place, and toxic chained pokemon rampaged about as if they owned the place.

But they weren't just going after whoever happened to be near— they had a target. Follow enough of the rabid things, and you would find it.

The prince of the forest— Ms. Cait's former patron— afflicted with the same poison as many others had before, but resisting mightily against it.

"Lele." Doug muttered lowly as he approached cautiously.

His bug type pokemon were taking care of nearby, toxic chained grass-types.

For now, however briefly, it was just him and Celebi.

And Celebi's once upon a Star Soiree's dance partner.

"Oh, this time you pay attention." He muttered, half joking, as his matron appeared.

Her gaze was unreadable, as ever, though the intensity behind it was felt stronger than anything he had gotten from her recently.

Guess she likes Celebi. He had suspected as much since back then, but it was nice to know for certain.

He reached over and poked her cheek.

"Let's help out." He said, reaching into his satchel and producing his scalpel, pink healing scales flowing through the blade as he grinned at her.

She lightly cocked her head, but did not impede him as he advanced.

"Hey." He said, alerting the pained prince. No need to surprise the poor, extremely powerful time lord. "Mr. Celebi. Dunno if ya recall me— I'm a friend o' Ms. Cait. If not me, maybe ya recall Lele?"

He gestured to his matron, whom hovered near the poisoned god.

"I know this, uh, probably looks a lil' scare." He said waving the scalpel briefly. "But I'mma use it to try n'help. That alright with ya?"

He grinned, winking at it as he sank to a knee before it, gently letting scales flutter down unto his body as Tapu lele watched, before nodding.

"Don'cha worry. Yer being treated by Hoenn's best." He said, winking. "Can't give Ms. Cait's favorite god half-assed treatment now, can I?"

They enjoyed throwing the old adage around that time flies when one is having fun, but Mr. Roche couldn't quite deduce whether time was, in fact, flying, never mind whether he was having fun or not.

Delicious rumors were his bread and butter, and the sighting of a mythical pokemon was rare enough to draw his interest, pedestrian though it might have been compared to his usual dealings. Nevertheless, Petalburg Woods was decidedly not what he had been led to believe.

The greenery was sparse, thin, lesser, somehow. In retrospect, he thought it might be related to the local wildlife sporting some kind of strange chain that looked decidedly non-conducive to the growth of lush flora.

His Froslass chilled the air around her, coalescing snowflakes from nothingness as her FROST BREATH crackled across the surface of a Shroomish as her trainer advanced through the forest, following the path of the fleeing Celebi.

"What strange times we find ourselves in, Rei," he commented dryly as he stepped over the still, blue-tinged pokemon. "Still, there's something to be said for treasure hunting, mm?"

time was a fragile thing in their universe. now, it was surely made more so with celebi under the toxic chain’s influence.[break][break]

the scientist rushed to the area as others did when she got word. she went prepared with pecha berries in her backpack, which she kept handy at home in case of disagreements amongst her bats.[break][break]

she entered the woods alongside others, not daring to go it alone when the toxin had already ravaged so much. she took cuts from flying the razor-sharp leaves of poisoned chikorita, and narrowly evaded the stun spore of an aggressing breloom.[break][break]

where the wild pokemon had gathered most abundantly, the injured celebi was there, doing its best to resist. her party tried to get close enough, and eventually, she was able to try and feed it one of the berries before they were chased back again.[break][break]

The urgency of the fleeing Celebi being infected by the toxic chains would make the ambassador in her dark blue ranger uniform worry. Rhea the shiny Dipplin releases a Dragon Pulse at the attacking toxic chained Gloom and she tries to protect the female royal and her hare king while Elise deals with the infected mythical Pokemon. Being born and raised in Ecruteak City for most of her childhood and late teenage years, the royal ambassador knew the conflicting legends around the grass type Pokemon, but she has never seen a Celebi up close.[break][break]

“Can you help with Aromatherapy?” She’ll ask the Calyrex when she sees the toxic chain wrapped around the body of the grass type fairy Pokemon. Charles’ crowned head glows light green as the Aromatherapy takes hold of the infected Celebi. Elise gets to nursing the Celebi back to health with her first aid kit taken out from her pack.[break][break]

Beside the concerned Galarian royal princess who would be treating the Celebi's infection, the Calyrex tries to help with shooting a wave of Heal Pulse over the weakened Celebi. Perhaps, as a fellow legendary Pokemon of the same typing as the Pokemon they were treating together, Charles desired to help it too.

[attr="class","bisc"]Biscotti’s dad was a great storyteller. Growing up, he spun all kinds of stories for them—-finding a way to make them special for all of them. The brunette’s favorite? A tale of Celebi and a lost boy in the woods. Sure, it wasn’t action-packed like the comic books, but it was still near to his heart. Not that he’d admit it. And the kid in it made him jealous. It’d be nice if he could go back in time.

It’d give him a chance to take the foot out of his mouth

After seeing the reports on its plight, the baker felt his heart twist. This wasn’t fair! Those other Pokemon were a bunch of bullies! The Forest Guardian deserved to bring joy. It was a beast of luck and good fortune. Though not much of a battler, Biscotti still felt an urge to help. So, taking inspiration from that story, he got to work. The result? Frosted pecha-infused cookies bursting with flavor.

After a few near misses—one that turned half the cookies to dust—the baker made it to the impromptu altar. The grass types had left their mark on his body: red marks from Vine Whips, and thorn-shaped holes in his legs. Luckily, he didn’t really feel it. Just the wetness of blood dripping down his extremities. He waited his turn to make an offering to the grass type. Then, after ushering some other people in front of him, he waited some more.

Finally, he got to the front of the line. Not one for praying, Biscotti was surprised as he found his hands clasped together. After listening to a dozen heartfelt leas, he didn’t have much to say. Eloquence? Not his thing. Scarred hands crumbled a bit of cookie over the rough stone carving—a strange anointment. “You got this, little buddy.”

Roy's familiarity with Petalburg Woods ran deep, each trail a nostalgic echo of his youth. But today, a dark presence lingered, disrupting the forest's natural harmony.

Whispers of a malevolent force had drawn Roy back, a legendary Pokémon veering from its benevolent course. The draconids' tales painted Celebi as a guardian of life, but now it was a troublemaker.

With Balmung by his side, Roy delved into the heart of the woods to the find the creature himself. It didn't take long for Celebi to make an appearance. Like a speedy insect, the sudden flash of green flew past them with alarming speed. The sight of the purple chain trailing behind the legendary Pokémon enforced a sinking feeling in the draconid's gut. Something wasn't right.

As Celebi vanished into the forest's depths, a small object caught Roy's eye; a Pecha Berry, seemingly placed there as if by magic. He bent down to inspect the fruit and then placed it into his pocket.

Infected grass pokemon stalk the shadows, snarling and salivating at what they must deem their next meal. A prompt combination of Seed Flare and Springtide Storm do their best to thin the horde, to give the Celebi a chance to escape.[break][break]

But it is the chiming of Heal Bells that truly seek to aid the fae in its fight. Whatever little help it provides in the moment is all that she can hope for.[break][break]

When Shalin returned to her Petalburg Woods home, ready to relax with her Pokémon, she found that her entire sanctuary was in a panic over... a Celebi buzzing all around the field and lake, a TOXIC CHAIN that looked like a crown over its tiny head. Several of her grass-type Pokémon, too, sported the wear, including her Venusaur. Completely having lost her mind, Saria drew both her POWER WHIPS and started cracking them haphazardly. Artea surfaced to try to immobilize her with an ICE BEAM, but one of the giant whips lashed across her cheek, her blood polluting the water around her.

This was horrible. Were they really causing her to go berserk?

The only way she had to approach Saria even remotely safely was with Starr, her Shiny Espeon. Every time the Sygna Pokémon wound up to try to strike her, she ordered the green psychic-type to ALLY SWITCH with another of her Pokémon. She felt awful for each one the mad Venusaur crashed her vines into. They would all need her attention once this was over.

It took Lathiel eating a supersonic cut to get within striking range of the Venusaur. Once the grass-type opened her mouth to let out a loud bellow, the Ranger hurled a clump of Pecha Berries into her partner's mouth. They had worked on poisoned Pokémon before; all she could do was pray the natural antivenom would dissolve the TOXIC CHAINS away...
