While he might not always be the most forthcoming, as a rule, he didn't lie. So upon hearing the other's question, he immediately shook his head before responding. "I see how you would think that, but no, not from Kalos either," he commented, adding the Kalos part before any question could be asked.

He didn't like talking about his home region. It brought up too many bad memories. Forever soured due to what had gone down. It also brought forth a lot of emotions that he just didn't want to deal with or didn't like dealing with.

"If I was by myself, I wouldn't mind tracking it down to see what it is, but as a rule, I won't put another person's life in danger," he commented as he stood up from his crouched position. In other words, he didn't care if he put his own life in danger, but he wouldn't put someone else's life in danger.

Fear flooded him at the thought of once again failing to protect someone. Images flashed through his mind of his brothers and his friends, them getting cut down before his eyes. He hadn't been enough to protect them.

"Yeah, there are a lot of powerful Pokémon down here. Not your run-of-the-mill Pokémon," he said, busy scanning their surroundings for potential dangers, unaware that the innocence was faked. However, upon hearing the question, he turned his attention to the other male.

He thought about the best way to answer. He didn't really want to admit he was an officer. Don't get him wrong, he loved his job, but he wasn't in the mood to get into a discussion about his career. It involved one thing he didn't care for: talking about himself.

If not that, he supposed he could tell a bit of the truth. With that in mind, he spoke. "Back in my homeland, I was trained as a knight, so I'm used to dangerous situations," he said with an air of someone who wasn't used to talking about himself, or maybe just didn't like it.

The tracks momentarily grabbed his attention, and he studied them before responding. "In a sense, I don't plan on tracking them down. The chasm is massive; one could easily get lost if they're not careful. That, and tracks could belong to a really powerful Pokémon or lead you into a trap," he said before directing his attention to the other male.

His eyes surveyed the paradox Pokémon, and he prepared himself. More than a few of them resembled a Jigglypuff. After using his Rotom Phone to get a read on their type, he directed his Pokémon to attack the Scream Tail head-on. Hopefully, having gained a partial Psychic typing, Dark-type moves would actually do something.

"Selene, use Dark Pulse on that Scream Tail. Aurora, use Copycat to copy Selene's Dark Pulse," he told them before falling quiet to watch the battle unfold. Hopefully, they would be able to keep these Pokémon from invading Hoenn.

Having received their orders, the two Eeveelutions released Dark Pulse from their mouths onto the oncoming Scream Tail. Having put more power behind the moves than necessary, he watched as the oncoming Scream Tail were thrown back and subsequently knocked out.

Well, that was three down, but he made sure to tell Selene and Aurora about putting too much power behind their moves. They would only end up wearing themselves out before the battle was even halfway finished if they kept that up.

Shaking her hand, he followed her gaze to Aurora and Selene. The look she gave the two was a bit confusing, but he decided not to ask. They did have a mission to do, after all. And they really did need to focus. Anything else could wait.

As she mentioned using the mission as a training session with her Cubone, he nodded in understanding. "Taking the lead works for me," his gaze remaining fixed on Mischa for a few seconds before he redirected his attention to Aurora and Selene, who were standing by his side fully alert.

"Selene, I need you to scout ahead. If you find anything, alert us," he told the Umbreon, who immediately took off to do as she was told. Hopefully, whatever they came across wouldn't be too dangerous.

The blurted introduction caught him a bit off guard. It didn't help that he had just been thinking about the fact that neither of them had introduced themselves. Recovering his composure, he decided he might as well introduce himself as well.

Upon realizing that they hadn't introduced themselves yet, a small amused smile tugged at the corners of his lips. "Don't worry about it. I had just noticed myself when you said something. I guess we just got so carried away chatting that we forgot to introduce ourselves," he told him with an amused chuckle.

Of course, Mikael didn't answer. He wouldn't until he at least saw what the person looked like, knew what kind of person he was dealing with. The guy could be an axe murderer after all. Well, maybe not. But still...

The person in question finally stepped out of the shadows, and he immediately took in the older male's clothes. He was dressed nicely, a little too nicely. Someone from money, then. His own jeans and sweater seemed out of place next to the other male but probably made him seem more fit for this kind of environment than the other male.

"My name's Mikael," he said at last before continuing. "It's dangerous here," he told him, seeming a bit concerned. It was clear that he thought he was a civilian.

Of course, he was well aware of the fact that the government was allowing civilians to explore what Area Zero had to offer, not that he approved. In fact, he still felt civilians should stay far away from this place.

To distract himself from saying something that could be considered distracting, he looked around. His eyes landed on what appeared to be an indentation in the ground. Frowning, he moved closer to see what it was, only to be faced by tracks.

Shouldn't he have been tasked with this first? Sure, the paradox Pokémon running rampant had been a problem, but surely he hadn't been the only one available to deal with it. According to them, he had been, which was why he was only just now getting a lay of the place despite having been down here before.

The younger male's voice cut through the fear that had clouded his thoughts, and he mentally shook himself. "Yeah, just thinking about how bad it'll be if any of these Pokémon get out of Area Zero. People's lives would definitely be in danger, so let's ensure that doesn't happen," he said, sticking somewhat to the truth but not the whole truth.

Once he had reassured the guy he was okay, they continued on in silence. The silence was only broken when they finally came across a Paradox Pokémon. "Aurora, Selene, prepare yourselves," he said as the Paradox Pokémon took notice of them.

He was about ready to give his Espeon and Umbreon a command when a cry sounded. It was further down and hard to make out, so he wasn't too worried. Even so...

Part of him wanted to tell him to go back anyway. The part that worried about something happening to him. Like him getting hurt or worse on his watch. He wasn't sure what he would do if something like that happened.

He pressed his lips together and nodded, trusting his judgment. Hopefully, he wouldn't regret not sending him back. He did have a Charizard so that was something.

As he mentioned them teaming up, he decided it would be the best idea. That way, he could keep an eye on him. Protect him if he had to.

Perhaps because of his line of thoughts or the darkness that surrounded him, he was suddenly very afraid that he wouldn't be able to protect him. That he would just end up another dead person he had failed to protect. Just like...

He cut off the thought abruptly before his thoughts could run away from him and nodded to show he would team up with him, not trusting himself to speak with the sudden spike of fear that had shot through him.
