He could tell from his expression that he felt bad for him. But as far as he was concerned, it wasn't a problem. Having grown up the way he had, it was probably best he hadn't had access to his taste buds back then. Then, by the time his life had improved, he was used to it and it didn't bother him.

The older male's voice pulled him out of his thoughts, and he allowed him to take one of the meat skewers. After the older male had taken one, he started to eat his own. Since he had food in his mouth, he didn't answer the older male's question right away. Instead, he waited until he had chewed and swallowed his bite of food before answering.

"I am. I never thought I could have so much fun at a marketplace, but I must say it's an interesting experience. Usually, I'm pretty focused on work, so I don't usually take the time to do this kind of stuff," he admitted.[break] Victor Haas

That was good. There was just something about knowing that someone was doing well that made him feel better. When the older male mentioned that the food was fresh, he nodded in agreement. It was true, he had seen them cooking it with his own eyes. Unfortunately, he couldn't really comment on the taste.

As if the older male was reading his mind, he asked if he wanted to try what he had. Upon hearing the question, he shook his head and said, "Thanks for the offer, but I'm afraid that me trying it won't do any good. I have an inability to taste," he explained, wondering if he had phrased that correctly. It had sounded a bit weird in his head, but maybe that was just him. Remembering that the older male had offered to let him try his food, he decided to return the favor. He had kind of forgotten about the meat skewers he had gotten.

The night market was somewhere he had never been before. He had heard of it, of course, from other people, but had never visited. After another sleepless night, he had decided to check it out. It would be better than training himself into the ground, after all.

As he wandered through the night market, his gaze scanned the people around him. Even when not on duty, he couldn't relax his guard. It was like he was always ready to jump in if trouble arose. That was just his nature. It didn't help that he was a knight who had decided to pursue being an officer.

Passing by one of the stalls, his stomach growled, calling attention to the fact that he was hungry. Frowning, he glanced briefly at the stall, taking in the meat skewers before deciding it wouldn't hurt anything for him to try them. Kindly thanking the person in charge of the booth, he paid for his two meat skewers before walking off.

As he walked, he scanned the people around him. He noticed an older man from his peripheral vision. Nothing about him really stood out, except that he was sitting off by himself. Effortlessly stepping out of the flow of traffic, he made his way over to the older man. "Are you enjoying yourself this evening?" he asked, giving the older man a warm smile to show him he meant no harm.[break] Victor Haas

The younger male's response wasn't very confident. However, he didn't have any reason to think that the green-haired man wasn't his partner. He decided to just write off his lack of confidence as nerves. Maybe he was just nervous about completing a mission with someone he had never met before.

"Nice to meet you as well, Scott. My name is Mikael, but Mika works as well," he told the younger man, giving him a warm smile, hoping to put him more at ease. He didn't want the younger man to be nervous around him. Being a pretty amiable person, having someone be nervous around him wasn't something he had ever had to deal with.

Aurora, the Espeon, eyed the Growlithe with interest but otherwise didn't react. Like her counterpart, she kind of worked like an emotional support Pokémon to her trainer. Though unlike the Umbreon, who impassively stood at his side, she was more likely to show her emotions.

He watched the two for a few minutes before turning his attention to his partner for the mission. "Your Growlithe shouldn't take it personally. Both of my Pokémon are pretty attached to me and really protective. It's rare for either to leave my side for anything," he explained, his gaze flickering briefly back to the two Pokémon again before going back to his partner.

As he mentioned the name of his Alolan Ninetales, he raised a brow. "Funnily enough, my Espeon is named Aurora," he said, nodding to the Espeon before gesturing towards the Umbreon. "And this is Selene."

"Anyway, don't apologize about your Growlithe. He's still young. I've had Aurora and Selene since I was sixteen, so I've had them for a while," he explained, smiling slightly. He didn't like to think too much about those days. It made him think too much about how he had lost everything.

Aurora brushing up against him brought him out of his thoughts, and he smiled down at the Espeon. Seeing the hand enter his field of vision, he sheathed his sword before shaking the younger male's hand. Once that was done, he would turn his attention to Aurora.

"Why don't you scout a bit ahead?" he suggested to the Espeon. "I'll be fine. I have Selene and Scott with me. You're good at sensing the movements of those around you, though, so it would be good for you to scout a bit ahead," he pointed out.

The lilac Pokémon seemed hesitant to do that but eventually relented. As she went on ahead, she would let out a small cry as she moved past the Growlithe. It was pretty clear she was trying to calm the younger Pokémon down, hoping to get him to stop trying to pick fights with her.

Once the Espeon had moved a bit ahead of them, he turned back to Scott. "I know Growlithe are known for their sense of smell, but Aurora is good at sensing the movement and thoughts of those around her. Think of it as an extra level of protection."[break] Scott Baker

Today was his day off, and one would assume that he would spend it relaxing. However, that was not the kind of person he was. Just because he had the day off did not mean there were not people who still needed help. He refused to sit idly by when there were people out there in need.

And so, he found himself working on a mission to protect someone's livestock on his day off. Considering the parameters of the mission, he felt confident in his abilities. As an officer, this kind of task should be relatively easy for him. He was well-prepared for whatever might pose a threat to the Wooloo, whether it be another Pokémon or a person.

After going over the briefing once more with the ranch owner, all that was left to do was wait for his partner. However, he felt that simply sitting there was not productive. Perhaps he should engage in some training to ensure he was adequately prepared for whatever challenges the mission presented.

Instructing his Espeon, Aurora, and his Umbreon, Selene, to stand guard, he unsheathed his sword and began practicing sword drills. Despite the assurance that Aurora and Selene would alert him if anyone approached, he remained vigilant. One could never be too cautious, as unexpected threats could arise.

Just as he was about to begin a new set of sword drills, Aurora and Selene alerted him to the presence of someone approaching. Lowering the tip of his sword to the ground, he turned towards the individual. "Are you my partner for this mission?"[break] Scott Baker

He could tell the older male was impressed with his knife throwing skills. If he was being honest with himself it was a bit embarrassing. The young man had always been the modest sort. Never really bragging about his skills, only ever mentioning that he could do them. And the fact he seemed a bit embarrassed about Finnegan’s reaction spoke of that.

After he had returned the knife to its place with the others and they had gotten introductions out of the way he considered what they could do next. He didn’t have anything else to show. Not unless he wanted to try a spar. But considering he wasn’t to familiar with his fighting style that probably wouldn’t be the best idea. At least not until he was more familiar with his fighting style.

Before he could think too much on it the older male made a suggestion that caught his interest. He had to admit checking out a school that taught the art of a sword was intriguing. And passing on what he had learn in his training to be a knight wasn’t such a bad idea either.

”I would be honored too,” he said making his way over to the green haired man and his Kirlia. He figured that the dual type would use teleport to get them to the flying sword school.[break] Finnegan Yang

He felt her rest her hand on top of his and he took a few breaths to come down. Usually he was more composed than this. But poor sleep had been catching up to him making it hard to keep his composure. There was also the fact he had never properly grieved. Hadn’t allowed himself to. Sure after the accident he had been numb but he had been trying to survive so he hadn’t taken the time to truly grieve. Then when he had arrived in Hoenn his nature to put others before himself had taken the drivers seat.

But ignoring a situation often made things worse. Hence the reason he had broken down the way he did. But Adelaide helped to bring him back to his senses and he was already calming down. Since it seemed he was calming down Adelaide must have decided to continue the conversation and started speaking once more.

The knight wanted to deny what she was saying. I’m his dreams that did blame him. Though he knew that wasn’t real. And that they would’ve never blamed him. It was still hard to ignore the dreams though. Maybe because of the way he felt about the whole matter.

”No they wouldn’t. But it’s not that simple. I’ve always been the type to look out for others even from a young age. That’s just the kind of person I am. But that can be a bad thing as well. I think that trait is what caused me to feel the way I do about what happened. Doesn’t help that I’m the only one that came out if it. I know enough about this kind of stuff to know I suffer from survivors guilt,” he told her looking at her briefly before looking away.

He listened to what she had to say feeling like there was a battle going on inside of himself. Her words caused a conflict in her emotions. ”It’s hard letting go. For the longest time I just had Aurora and Selene. They made it out as well. And now with the way Aurora is….” he trailed off shaking his head.

Seeing Aurora the way she was was hard. When he looked at her he felt there was a weight on his chest. He couldn’t bear the thought of anything happening to Aurora and Selene, or any of his other Pokémon. If it hadn't been for Aurora, he would have been caught off guard. Expecting it to take a while for them to be seen, he hadn't been paying attention. Aurora, who often stayed on guard when her trainer didn't, had noticed the waitress on her way over and had brushed her tail against his leg as a signal that he should pay attention. Knowing the Espeon would only do that if someone was approaching or had approached, he looked away from the window just in time to catch his companion's reaction.

He felt a little bad that he hadn't had Aurora also stay on alert for his companion, but there was nothing to do about it now. When they were alone once more, he would apologize to her. But for now, he needed to focus his attention on the waitress, who he figured had come over to get their drink order. At least he hoped that was the case since he hadn't had enough time to look over the menu.

Realizing his companion was still trying to recover from getting caught off guard he decided to take over. To answer the waitress’s question. ”I’ve never been here before. Is there anything you would recommend?” he inquired knowing some places had specials that included food and sometimes beverages. It really depended on the restaurant.[break] Shion Uehara

Aurora and Selene had always been over protective of him. But it had gotten worse a few years back. The attack that had taken so much from him had been what they needed to become more protective of him. Probably because it was a was a situation where they could’ve all died. And it was for that reason that he was also pretty protective of his Pokémon.

Hearing her comment he nodded. ”I suppose that’s just Pokémon for you. They want to be able to keep their trainers safe,” he said with a chuckle. ”BUt then again I’m protective over my own Pokémon as well and would do whatever I can to ensure they’re safe.” Something he had almost failed to do one time.

As she moved passed him she smiled at him a gestured he returned. It was only after she was inside that he would follow her in making sure that door was shut behind him. And once he had done that he would take he chance to look around.

The theme of the place seemed like a mix of a cafe and a bookstore. It wasn’t tacky though and actually looked good. Whoever had designed the place knew exactly what they were doing to not make the place come off as tacky.

It didn’t take long for him to take in the decor of the building. And before to long he was following Shion over to a table beside the window. He waited until she had sat down before sitting down across from her.

”Yes it really is,” he agreed before continuing. ”Whoever came up with the design knew what they were doing. It’s just enough of a mix between cafe and bookstore not to come off as tacky.”[break] Shion Uehara

To his relief she had been kept waiting long. He hadn’t thought he was running late. But it was always best to be sure. On any other occasion he would probably arrive before the specified meeting time. But there was a few times where he just caught up in his training. Like he did today. Luckily it hadn’t made him late.

Both Aurora and Selene were friendly. Something that showed when they weren’t opposed to moving closer to Shion. Though Aurora was the most forward of the two. Selene had always been more on the reserved side. Something he was sure was his fault. Since he kind of toed the line between being amiable or being reserved.

He wasn’t to worried about their interactions so he decided just to let them get acquainted with each other. While they did that he took the time to take in their surroundings. It was while doing this that he noticed the woman’s Rookidee. It seemed to be trying to use leer to intimidate him. But it wasn’t really having any affect. Perhaps if he was someone different. But he had seen too much to allow something like that to intimidate him.

”Noted,” he said upon hearing her warning before continuing. ”As you’ve noticed Aurora and Selene don’t have that problem. In fact I swear that they plot together to get me friends. So of the friends I have are because they went over to someone completely ignoring me when I tell them to come back,” he admitted with a shake of his head.

The two eeveelutions for their part were trying to come off as innocent. Well Aurora was anyway. Selene had always been good at masking her emotions. Aurora could be as well at times.

Aurora was more obvious about her dislike of the way Eua was treating her trainer. Seeing this the young man pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed. ”Just ignore it Aurora. I don’t want anything to get started,” he told the Espeon causing her to look at him.

He knew both Aurora and Selene were real protective of him. And while he appreciated it it would do more harm than good in this situation. ”My life isn’t in any danger,” the this time was left unsaid as he continued to stare into the Espeon’s eyes.

Finally Aurora backed down and he returned his attention to Shion. ”Aurora and Selene are both real protective over me. Though Aurora is more obvious about it,” he explained to her. Hopefully it wouldn’t seem strange and she wouldn’t question him about it.

Nodding he moved passed her and opened the door holding it open. ”After you,” he said indicating that she should go first. It was also an indication that he had manners ingrained in him since he was holding the door open instead of just hearing on inside.
