The guy didn't seem too keen on fighting the Iron Thorns, but they would much rather not be attacked with their back turned. In other words, they would much rather see what was coming. It was why they were staying to fight the paradox Pokémon off instead of retreating. There was also the fact that it seemed pretty relentless.

Still, taking it on was more of a challenge than they thought it would be. Luckily, the guy they were with decided to step up his own game and actually help them out. With him helping, perhaps chasing it off wouldn't be too much of a hassle.

The thought had barely crossed their mind when the Iron Thorns, in a burst of electricity, started towards them. Eyes widening, they grabbed hold of the guy's sleeve they were with, as well as Minerva, prompting the Beheeyem to teleport with them.

The trio would reappear behind the Iron Thorns, out of the danger zone of a move that would've surely killed them. "That was too close, I'm not looking to die here," they muttered under their breath before gesturing for Minerva to rejoin the battle while the Iron Thorns was recovering from recoil damage.

Seriously, the sooner they sent this Iron Thorns on its way, the better. They definitely hadn't been expecting a run-in with a Pokémon of this caliber when they had decided to come down here.

Though as he watched Artemis use Leaf Blade followed up by Poseidon using Water Pulse, he knew that his Pokémon were capable of protecting themselves if there was another run in with a Pokémon as powerful as the one they were facing.[break] Ozni Adebayo

"Good, I don't like dealing with them on a good day," they said, making a mental note that the other wasn't going to keep a Pokémon out. Thinking of the league made them think about that one guy, who they had later found out was Josh Devlin, the Mauville gym leader. They were still smarting about their loss to him, though it had been more of a trade than a true loss. They supposed a true loss would've been to be apprehended.

Mentally shaking themselves, they followed after the other, frowning when he mentioned the scorch marks. "Best we stay on guard then. Those paradox Pokémon are no joke."

Fighting against one wasn't something he was keen on alone. So if by any chance they did run into any paradox Pokémon, he was thankful to have Priam as backup, even if he didn't know his battling capabilities.

They knew that not having a Zorua or Zoroark was a problem, but there wasn't much they could do about it now. However, they were used to making do with what they had, so they didn't think it would be too much of a problem, at least for now. But they still planned to get a Zorua or Zoroark as soon as possible.

As the older rocket agreed to the plan, they nodded and released Soulfire from her Pokéball. "Soulfire, I want you to use the illusionary abilities of the move Night Shade and create a bubble around us that reflects our surroundings," they told the Chandelure.

In response to her trainer's request, Soulfire simply did as she was asked. Sage knew that it had taken effect due to how weird it usually made them feel.

At the mention of the unknown, they frowned. "It's a surprisingly powerful Pokémon, despite not being able to learn many moves," they agreed with a sigh. This would be tricky, but...

"I think as long as we don't make too much noise, we should be fine," they said, keeping their voice low, although there wasn't much reason to do so at the moment. However, that gave them an idea.

Releasing Minerva, their Beheeyem, from her Pokéball, they asked Soulfire to include her in the illusionary bubble before turning their attention to the older rocket.

Listening to what he had to say, they nodded before speaking. "Sounds good to me. If I can avoid fighting directly, that would be much preferred. Hopefully, the illusion will make it so I don't have to leave you as a distraction. And for an extra layer of protection, Minerva can tell me exactly how many people there are and their exact locations through the telepathic link we share," they said, indicating that they should get started.

Once it seemed the other was ready, they would start heading in the direction of the camp, stopping when they were close enough to take in the layout of the camp.

"There are two patrolling guards, and the rest are in the tents. We have a small window to slip past the guards and start laying the explosives. According to Minerva, the guards have all their attention focused away from the camp, so once we slip past them undetected, we'll be able to lay the explosives without them noticing," they told the older rocket.[break] Amor Rose

As the others decided on one of the options, they nodded. That sounded good to them. Of course, considering it was one of their ideas, it was a given it would sound good to them.

Without another word, they made their way closer to the camp. Soon, the camp came into sight and once they were close enough to see into the camp and not get detected, they came to a stop. Staring ahead, they caught sight of at least one guard, meaning the rest were inside.

Unable to properly see into the tent, they released Minerva, his Beheeyem, from her Pokéball. "Well?" he quietly asked the Psychic-type Pokémon.

Once they got the information they needed, they turned to the older Rocket. "One on guard, about a dozen in the building, seven to be exact. So that means eight people. Seems they're not taking any chances in case of an attack. From what Minerva relayed to me, a couple are simple scientists with no battle experience. So I would say in reality we're really dealing with five opponents," they quietly told the other.

With that said, it was time to put their plan into action. Minerva seemed to use that as her cue before teleporting away. She appeared again inside the camp before using Psychic energy to topple some crates, teleporting back to Sage's side before the crates hit the ground.

The noise from the toppling crates was enough to cause the guy guarding to abandon his post and the people inside to rush out of the research building to see what all the commotion was about.

Perfect, that had worked better than they had hoped it would. Beckoning Gerald to follow, they slipped into the camp while the opposing side was distracted. Once inside the camp, they nodded to Poseidon, causing him to immediately use Double Team, duplicating himself as well as them a few times, making it seem like there were more people than there were.

As if sensing something, a few turned, letting out a startled cry, causing the others to turn and falter. It seemed none knew what to do, so while they were still caught off guard, it was time for them to attack.

Sage started off by having Greninja hit a few with Water Shuriken, but that wouldn't be enough to really take them out, so they hoped their partner had a Pokémon that was more of a heavy hitter.[break] Gerald Kaiser

They weren't really sure what to make of his dismissal. Then again, he supposed unless one was a researcher or a scientist of some kind, one wouldn't be too interested in how a Pokémon came to be. They couldn't say they were really interested themselves.

Making an affirmative noise, they kept their attention focused on the Pokémon. Iron Thorns was not the kind of Pokémon one wanted to let their guard down around.

As the Comfey tried to ensnare the Iron Thorns' muzzle with a vine whip, they raised a brow, not that it was noticeable thanks to the mask they wore. Before they could point that out to the other, the vine whip pushed its muzzle enough to throw the Electro Ball off course, allowing the Psybeam to hit it head-on.

Before they even had time to feel relief, the Iron Thorns was back up and madder than ever, if the ground trembling was anything to go by. It seemed like all they were doing was making it angry.

They were just about to issue some more orders to their own Pokémon when the older male suddenly grabbed the back of their shirt, startling them. It was only thanks to quick reflexes that they stayed upright and didn't fall.

Recovering their balance, they glanced over their shoulder at the other. "While I appreciate the thought and that you pulled me out of harm's way, running will only make us an easier target," they said, keeping their tone neutral.

"Artemis, come back over here," they called out to the Decidueye, causing him to immediately use Shadow Sneak to get back over to his trainer's side.

Once he was back with them, they nodded at the Pokémon, only saying one thing. "Poseidon, Artemis, do you two know what to do?"

The two Pokémon seemed to know exactly what he was talking about. Almost simultaneously, Poseidon used Water Shuriken while Artemis used Air Cutter.

The two attacks mixed with each other, causing the shurikens to increase in speed, adding more power behind the water attack as the two attacks slammed into the Iron Thorns.[break] Ozni Adebayo

Being good at reading people, they noticed the other tense up. A change in the air as the tension grew. Hopefully, this wouldn't mean the other would be jumpy. Though he supposed that would mean the other was at least on guard. Better that than to be relaxed about the whole thing only to be taken out because you weren't on alert.

"Lure them out in the open and have Poseidon, my Greninja, use Double Team to trick them into thinking they're surrounded and take them out before they recover from their surprise. Then, we can retrieve their research once they're out of commission. Alternatively, we could split our focus, similar to the first plan, by luring them into the open. I would use Nightwing, my Crobat, to use Haze as a cover to slip past their defenses while you keep them busy."

To be honest, there were actually a multitude of ways they could go about it. But in their opinion, luring them out of the research station was the best approach. Of course, these were just ideas. If the other person had ideas of their own, they would listen.

Looking back at him, they realized he was distracted by something. Frowning, they moved closer to see what it was. They had barely had time to study the tracks when a roar sounded, causing them to become more alert and scan their surroundings until they realized the roar still sounded further down.

Priam, they hadn't interacted with him since they had met in the training room. So this would be their second time meeting him, and their first mission together. If it could even be called that. Perhaps "assignment" would be more correct. Anyway, they were tasked with going on another excursion, this time with Priam. It was the first time they had gone on a mission with someone they already knew, even if it was only briefly.

Waiting for their partner at the entrance to the Giant Chasm, they expanded their senses by concentrating on the sounds around them. It didn't seem like any rangers were around. That was good. While they saw themselves as skilled battlers, they would rather have someone to have their back if something attacked them while they were here.

"Long time no see," they said simply once the other had joined them. "Ready to go? I believe we're tasked with gathering more information about the Giant Chasm," they said, not bothering to tell him to stay on guard and be prepared for anything. Because even if that was their task, anything could happen while they were down below. They could even be attacked. Seriously, who was this guy? Didn't he know what a paradox Pokémon was? They had thought everyone knew what they were. More than enough people talked about them in their opinion. But it seemed there were still people who hadn't heard about them.

"Paradox Pokémon, said to be variations of Pokémon we know from different timelines or ancient/futuristic relatives of certain Pokémon we know, that's what the stories say anyway," they said with a small shrug. They themselves weren't really sure what they believed, nor did they really care.

With the guy agreeing to stay out of their way, they put a plan into action. Hopefully, it would work out in their favor. They barely paid any mind to the other as he ordered his Pokémon to help them out with Flower Shield, instead just choosing to focus on getting the Iron Thorns to leave them be.

Minerva's Psybeam slammed into the Electro Ball, keeping it at bay a bit as Poseidon and Artemis did their moves. Poseidon used Double Team to increase his speed and evasiveness, while Artemis used Shadow Sneak to sneak up behind the Iron Thorns and use Leaf Blade.

Being a Rock type, the Leaf Blade did a considerable amount of damage to the Iron Thorns. Trusting Artemis to be able to take care of himself, they turned their attention to the power struggle between the Psybeam and the Electro Ball. [break] Ozni Adebayo

Decided to file that information away for later, they decided to just answer their fellow Rocket's question. "Unfortunately not, it's a Pokémon I'm hoping to add to my Pokémon team though. I do, however, have a Chandelure that knows the move Night Shade. I've been working with her in order to use the move outside of battle to cast illusions. If I don't have access to the illusions of a Zorua or a Zoroark, then I just have to be creative and make do with what I do have," they explained, resisting the urge to sigh at the amount of talking they had done.

While it was true they weren't really antisocial, they weren't exactly social either. So a lot of talking wasn't something they were a big fan of. However, since the older Rocket was their partner for the mission, he needed to know what he was working with.

Listening to what he said about the Dark Triad, they decided to look more into that later. While they would love to know more about the people they would be facing, now wasn't the time. They would have to find out more about the Dark Triad at a later date, on their own time.

"Sure, if I make use of Soulfire's Night Shade move and cast an illusion with it, I could," he agreed, deciding not to mention that if he was by himself, he wouldn't need a Pokémon to move around undetected. The perks being adept at matching his movements of shadows in order to blend in with them.

While they awaited the others response a familiar feeling hit them. The same feeling of fear that had hit them once before, the last time they were here. It made them want to doubt themself, question everything that could go wrong. However having experienced it before they were better prepared for it and were able to brace themselves against it. A slight stiffening was the only sign of what they felt but other than that they showed no signs that anything was wrong.
