Keira smiled, amused - and somewhat touched - by how tender Magnus always was with his pups. She wondered if he brought the same care and devotion to his various flings and affairs. Briefly, she considered asking Jasmine Blair or Leilani Reinhardt about it sometime...but then she realized that would probably entail way too many details she had absolutely zero desire to know. So. Better for it to remain a mystery, perhaps.[break][break]
They continued along the rocky path. As they gained elevation, the air became hotter and more humid. Keira idly wiped her brow with the back of her hand, stopping for a quick drink from the canteen she carried in her backpack.[break][break]
"Moltres, yes," she confirmed, glancing at the mountain peak. "You know I'm a realist, Magnus - so don't think I'm about to condone anything stupid! - but the idea of Orthrus gaining access to a legendary Pokémon appeals to me. The League government, as well as several Rocket higher ups - if the rumors are to be believed - have such assets. Why not us?"[break][break]
Orthrus was relatively minor compared to those larger factions, but that didn't deter Keira. She'd never let much of anything stand in her way.[break][break]
A fierce looking Poliwrath poked its head out from behind a rock. Keira threw a Pokeball, as if doing so might bait an even stronger Pokémon to appear and challenge her.

It didn't take Jazz long to do what Jazz did best.[break][break]
As the hostess sauntered right into the main room, Keira melted into the shadows, finding her way to a dim corner with a pair of gender-neutral bathrooms. As she surveyed the interior of the club, the DJ's music began to grow louder and more frenzied. Keira had never liked dance clubs - she always managed to leave with a headache - but she had to admit, it was the perfect venue for Jazz to work her magic.[break][break]
In fact, was Jazz...getting onto a table? No, she was being lifted onto a table.[break][break]
Excellent.[break][break]
As Keira scanned the bar area, she noticed a somewhat intimidating - if bored-looking - man guarding an unmarked door. Bingo, she thought. That had to be the underground entry.[break][break]
And just as she'd hoped, the man's gaze found Jazz and his eyes locked onto her gyrating body, her poor excuse for a skirt revealing quite a bit of skin from her high-up position. The man was leaning away from the door just enough...and it was just loud enough...and Keira's clothing was just dark enough...[break][break]
...that she slipped right by him, the basement door closing after her with a soft, unnoticed click.

Keira was used to taking care of people. She was responsible for a whole gang of idiots, after all.[break][break]
Useful idiots, of course. Lovable idiots, even.[break][break]
And so, because she was generally in charge of making sure everyone in Orthrus managed to survive day-to-day, she was perhaps the most prepared of her current companions for the incredibly oppressive heat of the Ultra Desert.[break][break]
"Here," she said to Jack Magnus, recognizing the signs of heat exhaustion despite his best efforts to remain strong for the group. Foolish man and his leadership complex.[break][break]
She sprinkled a small amount of cool water from one of her insulated canteens onto a linen cloth and pressed it into his hand - specifically, against his wrist. "Put it on the back of your neck next, okay?" The remedy would last mere minutes - perhaps seconds - in the overbearing heat of this strange, alien desert, but the momentary respite would hopefully allow him to remain alert.[break][break]
She glanced at Marshall Slade, but he seemed to be fairing better than Magnus. For now. She would keep a close eye on him, too, just in case.[break][break]
The only one of them who seemed to be thriving in the heat was Hades. The massive Charizard seemed perfectly at ease beneath the cruel sun. She knew he had the ability to absorb solar energy and revert it into a little bit of extra power, so she was glad to have him with them in case something unexpected attacked.[break][break]
They followed Bogie for nearly a half hour, trudging painstakingly slowly through the thick sand, until they came upon her find: a single obsidian obelisk, so tall Keira could not see its pointed top from the ground. It cast a long shadow - widest at the base - that she quickly scurried under, sighing with relief.[break][break]
"Kinda creepy," She noted, brushing a sweat-soaked lock of white hair out of her eyes and turning to Marshall. "What do you think it's for?"

Keira frowned as he teased her. They might be older now - less bratty, more brawns and brains - but it seemed he could still get under her skin.[break][break]
"It's a good alias," she insisted. "Simple, straightforward, badass." A hot blush assaulted her cheeks. "Anyway, I didn't make it up - I earned it. Started stealing from Rocket - successfully, mind you - and folks started calling the thief "crimson." You know, 'cos the Rocket logo's got red in it, I guess." She shrugged, trying to look casually unaffected by his stupid, mocking grin.[break][break]
"I don't know a Jack Magnus," she admitted, abruptly diverting the conversation back to his earlier question. "I mean, maybe the name's a little familiar, but he's no regular around my territory. What's his deal, then?"[break][break]
The bartender slid her a gin and tonic, extra lime, and she nodded to him in thanks.[break][break]
A new gang? That was intriguing. It also offered a plausible explanation for why Marshall had come looking for the master thief named Crimson.[break][break]
She had a feeling she was about to be recruited.

Keira rolled her eyes at Jazz's teasing. That girl would flirt with anything that moved.[break][break]
Which, she knew, was to their benefit for this particular job. She had full faith in the hostess's ability to make any man - or woman - in the Rocket-run club they were swiftly approaching feel special: like they had a chance to get her into their bed for the evening. As Jazz pulled down her top even lower, exposing nearly her whole chest, Keira nodded with approval. The more scandalous the better.[break][break]
"Which one?" She asked in response to Jazz's reminiscing. "Douche canoes seem to be our number one client type these days." [break][break]Keira had a zero tolerance rule in regards to the harassment of her hosts and hostesses, but sometimes girls like Jazz took care of the assholes before Keira even had to step in and make them pay. Made her proud every single time.[break][break]
"Allright, we act like we're there to get our dance on, but as soon as we're inside Mommy's gonna slip away. You keep all the eyes on you."[break][break]
When they reached the bouncer, Keira slipped him a twenty and a wink. He nodded, letting them through. Just a pair of pretty faces, nothing to worry about. All according to plan...

Instead of the gangly, insufferable, loud-mouthed teenaged boy she'd followed around as a kid - insisting he accept her into his street gang - he was now a man. A handsome man, with keen eyes, a wolfish smile, and a muscular, fit body she could not help but admire. As he, too, unabashedly drank in her form, she felt her mouth turn up in a self-satisfied grin. Not the little girl I used to be, eh Marshall?[break][break]
Both of them had obviously matured.[break][break]
"When'd you get out?" She asked, genuinely curious. "Hell, Marshall, it's been years. Were you locked up all this time?"[break][break]
The last time she'd seen him, he'd was being dragged away by a pair of cops. Several of the gang members had been arrested that day, but little Keira had slipped away unnoticed. Later, she found Jimmy, but he told her the gang was through. Too many taken, time to keep a low profile. She'd made it her business to disappear for a while.[break][break]
She'd always wondered what happened to the others - Marshall included - but jail was a death sentence at worse, an inconvenience at best. When they hadn't turned up again after a year or so, Keira had moved on.

Nobody was granted an audience with the Crimson Lady unless they could pay. The amount paid determined the time spent. She called it a "deposit": her time was precious, after all.[break][break]
Unova's underworld was full of men and women just scraping by; ironically, those who wished to employ the services of a master thief were often desperate for cash. She turned down more jobs than she took, having earned the right to be picky about her services. The deposit was a small measure taken to ensure she never wasted her time, one way or another.[break][break]
100 PD was no meager deposit. 100 PD earned an hour of her time.[break][break]
"Who?" She'd asked the bartender when he'd come to fetch her from the private bar below the Ruby Saloon, examining the bill he'd slid across the sticky counter so she could clearly see its worth. She knew right away that it wasn't a fake. Her expression brightened with intrigue.[break][break]
The man shrugged.[break][break]
"Someone who really wants to see you, I s'pose."[break][break]
When they'd come upstairs, the bartender had pointed out the 100 PD spender. His back was to her, head turned to watch a pair of regulars play pool. She sidled up to him with a confident swagger, slipping into the barstool next to him. When he swiveled around to face her, however, her jaw dropped.[break][break]
"Marshall?" Keira breathed, shocked. "Marshall Slade?"

Keira shook her head as the two Houndour hopped up onto Magnus's massive shoulders, tongues lolling. "You look ridiculous," she told all three of them, but her expression was amused. Affectionate, even.[break][break]
Jack Magnus was unlike anyone Keira had ever met. He was simultaneously an unpredictable goofball and one of the fiercest gangsters in Hoenn. The man was overflowing with an undeniable charisma. Orthrus was growing rapidly, and the gang had Magnus's reputation to thank for that. Well, and Keira's business sense, of course. Behind every Jack Magnus there was always a Keira.[break][break]
"Let's head this way," she beckoned the nearly seven-foot-tall makeshift Cerberus to follow after her.[break][break]
Just as she began to hike up the base of the cliff, a squawking sound caught her attention. A wild Combusken burst out of the underbrush, obviously frazzled. It scurried forward only to skid to a sudden stop - kicking up a cloud of dirt and small stones - when it saw Magnus and his three "heads", shocked into silence. Keira took the opportunity to throw a Pokeball.[break][break]
"You three might be more effective than a Stun Spore," she laughed.

Keira was already in a certain mood, but he didn't have to know that.[break][break]
She returned Hades to his Pokeball, then made for the stairs. Both the mod shop and the fight club would be hits, she knew. She'd put together a renovation plan once they were back at headquarters. Marshall wasn't exactly an expert at doing that part of starting a business. It had always been her job to procure goods for Orthrus, as well as make inventory lists, schedule appointments, and hire the right people. All the nitty-gritty behind-the-scenes details of running a successful criminal empire.[break][break]
"Sounds fun," she replied to his suggestion, turning back to look at him over her shoulder before ascending the stairs. "Especially if you're buying."[break][break]

Marshall shifted in front of her instinctively at the first sign of danger, a protective measure that made Keira feel simultaneously annoyed and pleased. She was fully capable of handling herself against most threats, which Marshall knew, and yet, his reaction also made her heart pound in her chest in a way that had absolutely nothing to do with fear or frustration.[break][break]

The Misdreavus took that moment to send a SHADOW BALL at Hades, which caused the Charizard to duck out of the way with a growl. The dark energy slammed into the far wall, kicking up a cloud of dust.[break][break]
Hades responded by opening his mouth and sending an INFERNO at the little ghost. The SUNNY DAY-powered flames fully engulfed the smaller creature, causing it to wail in pain.[break][break]
"Hades, that was overkill!" Keira half-laughed half-sighed, her tone a mix of exasperated and amused. Good thing the entire basement was essentially made of stone.

As they entered Granite Cave, the gloom began to settle in, and Keira squinted - unable to see much farther than a few feet away, she turned to Hades and patted his arm.[break][break]
"Give us some light," she requested.[break][break]
With a small flourish of his tail, the flame on its end brightened and the mouth of the cave was illuminated by a SUNNY DAY. It was a little brighter than she'd intended, causing her to blink as her eyes adjusted to the sudden drastic change in lighting. When she was able to see again, she noticed a small form scurrying out from behind a rock.[break][break]
It was a Cubone, and it was apparently pissed that they'd lit up the cave. Despite its much smaller size, it ran up to Hades and began to smack him with its held bone. The Charizard bellowed, annoyed, then swiped at the Cubone with sharp claws in an attempt to land a DYNAMIC PUNCH. Keira laughed at the somewhat comical scene, then threw a Pokeball.
