Robin shrugged. "Heard a higher ranking Ranger call it that. I would've named it Iron Arrow because of the shape of its head." She was taken aback by Josh's strategy. She had never seen someone appeal to a pokemon like that before, but she had also never encountered a god. Wait... was it a god? Hadn't she encountered two of these with Sasky?

Hesitantly, she started, "I don't think-" but the violence cut her off. Sinsistea spewed aromatic mist to increase the defense of Josh's pokemon. She tossed out her Toxtricity, shrouded in shadow. "Get that thing off of him!" Toxtricity made some sort of rock n roll gesture before charging into the ruckus, getting close to properly land a poison jab on the attacking pokemon instead of Josh. The close quarters made it easy for the walking wake to toss Toxtricity aside and into a rock wall. Robin flinched sympathetically and reached behind to pull her backpack in front of her.

"I have some heal spray!" She shouted to Josh, feeling apprehensive about getting close to him while his own pokemon were about to attack the walking wake. Getting in the middle of a pokemon battle was a surefire way to end up in the hospital.

Woof, Sasky missed her calling as a linebacker.

Robin blinked away the swellows floating above her in her daze, then sat up as quickly as her spinning ahead allowed. "Still in one piece," she confirmed. She rose to her feet and would lend Sasky a hand to get up if she permitted it. "Your pokemon is quick to act." She observed it with a gracious tone, though the way her gaze fell on the Wyrdeer made it clear she didn't totally trust it -- psychic pokemon were natural enemies to the failed psychic that tended to draw their ire.

Sinistea got into the roughage too, using aromatic mist to strengthen Sasky's pokemon before hitting the walking wake with a shadow ball. "We need to get a little more distance from the fight before we end up in the middle of an attack." As she scattered towards a large boulder they could stand behind, a similar blue form appeared.

Two? Did they travel in packs? She tossed out Thievul, needing the support. "Sucker punch!" She requested as the Thievul followed through. "We're going to get overrun if anymore come this way. We might need to use the environment to drop rocks and block off any newcomers."

It had been months since she visited the city. It was shrouded in just as much mystery and foreboding energy as last time. But a lot had changed since her last visit; between her growing bonds with other Rangers and her stronger dedication to becoming a stronger trainer, she felt far more equipped to tackle Megalopolis. More recently, her shadow Toxel had evolved overnight, and while it'd been odd, she was glad to have him here with them now as his electrical charges created a decent glow for the dark gloom of the area.

"Thanks for coming so last minute," she said. She had requested a visit to the city after leading Gwendolyn Conway down to the deep sea had worked out well. This place had always evaded her more than the sea or the border, and she wanted to put her nervous feelings about the area to rest. "I heard you're a gym leader. You better watch out; I already signed up to challenge my home gym in Dewford. I'll be coming for you before long!" She jabbed a confident thumb to her chest and gave him a grin. She marched forward in the direction of a large, crumbling wall that no longer had a building to support.

A RUINED CITY IN ULTRA SPACE. It is unclear whether this is a different universe's Ultra Megalopolis or smaller colony. Regardless, it is a dark city with intermittent sections of flickering, artificial light... Large, black prism-like skyscrapers loom above flat black streets. Much ruin has fallen here, but you get the sense that you're not alone...

She listened carefully. She wanted to be fully in sync with her pokemon. She had mega evolved Snorlax only once, and it had felt like their bond was electric and alive. She needed more practice to hone that technique and more time to get on the same wavelength as her team. Though, Snorlax was her first. She felt the most harmonious with him already. And she had hatched Sinistea from an egg, so she was all her ghost knew. She had been told bonds and understanding were important to a trainer; her two pokemon were carefully chosen for this fight.

As he mentioned defending Dewford, it solidified her resolve. She steeled herself as she released her two pokemon onto the field in front of her. "Alright, it's time to prove ourselves." She took in a deep breath. Whatever he sent out, she had to be in tip-top shape. "Sinistea, use aromatic mist." The ghost chimed in an affirming tone and released a sweet-smelling mist that reinforced the defense of Snorlax.

She waited; Snorlax was an expert at tanking hits, and seeing Mr. Navidson's opening gambit would help her strategize.

She couldn't name what she'd been expecting, but the steel room wasn't it. Perhaps these battles got so chaotic they needed the containment. She'd have to keep that in mind. Snorlax had pretty destructive environmental moves, so at least she didn't have to sweat breaking the gym in half. She didn't make enough money for that kind of cleaning bill...

"My motivation," she echoed as she considered the question. "My friends have been getting stronger, and I need to, too, if I want to protect them. With all I've been learning from my Ranger Captains lately, it feels like I need to put that knowledge to the test. They keep telling me the threats we're facing will push boundaries, will break rules, will defy any good will in their hearts. I have to challenge myself to think outside the box, so I'm ready for that fight."

Surrendering with her fainted pokemon hadn't protected her from the attempted abduction. Rockets could do anything with brute force and an addiction to chaos. She had to do better to keep her home safe. "I've not been the best trainer. In fact, I've let my pokemon fight their battles without much input for most of my time as a Ranger, but recent events have taught me that I have to take a front seat if I want to change the course of a fight. I need more than their instinct. So. I'm here to test if I've developed any of my own."

Robin was certainly happy to have not been hospitalized in her case. "Bullet seeds..." She shivered at the thought. Then, she considered his question. "It's like, green and robot-y and looks like --" She gestured with her hands to express the shape of its antler-y head. "A deer kinda thing. It uses Psyblade. At least hers did. And that thing hits hard." She lost that fight rather quickly.

She jerked backward at the sound of Josh's pokemon fighting, but the fight was soon the least of their problems. A blue quadrupedal pokemon approached, looking like nothing she'd seen before. "Uh-oh. We got a bogey approaching the research station." Sinistea clinked as she darted forward to hit the walking wake with shadow ball.

Robin grinned at Sasky's commentary. "Yes! They're so odd. I think they're the calmer of the three unusual paradoxes found in this area, though, so we should be in luck." She felt confident about knocking out their numbers. She flexed an arm to emphasize her confidence, then marched onward into the area. "Maybe we'll be fortunate enough to catch 'em."

She actually didn't think they would suit her teams, but it would be kinda cool. The way they looked made her wanna touch their manes. "Oh, what's this?" She stopped at a set of tracks that suddenly disappeared. "These steps might be one of those creatures." She barely got the words out before she heard an animalistic cry.

A walking wake was charging straight at her.

She hummed thoughtfully at his question. What had she been up to? "I was super sick. Gwendolyn Conway took care of me because I could hardly see straight. I don't get sick very often, so that was a little humbling..." She rubbed the back of her head, vaguely remembering her feverish mumblings. Her instinct when she'd gotten sick had been to hole up somewhere rather than hit a hospital or call home.

"Oh! I met annalise henderson . We did a combat drill. Her Iron Leaves is no joke." Gengar hadn't stood a chance. Robin looked at Josh's paradox pokemon. "It looks like you've been cozying up to some paradox pokemon of your own. Aren't they super unpredictable?"

It takes a long moment for Robin to realize how serious he is. She could recount her recent victories in area zero or even refer to the different lessons she has taken lately from riding with Josh to battling with Annalise, but she doesn't need her resume in this moment. He's offering her a no-shame exit. He just doesn't know it isn't an option she can take.

"I stepped into this fight back when I accepted my Ranger armband." She tugged on it emphatically; unlike last time they met, she bore the cadet band instead of the rookie one. "I gave my word then, and I stand on it now." She turned towards the cave again, undeterred despite his offer. "If reality is at stake, it's my duty to protect it, just like you." He might have had some years and experience on her, sure, but she was going to beat him someday.

"I'm not quitting on you, so let's make these guys pound sand, yeah?"

What she thinks will be a crash course quickly crashes and burns into something grim and somber. She didn't associate those words with the easy-going Greyson, but it's been a while since she's seen him. She believes everything he is saying, but she is rendered mute by the manic expression on his face. He's more intense than she's ever seen.

Time changes everyone. She isn't sure what to make of him, yet, but she nods like a good Ranger. "Get rid of the reality-hating baddies. Got it." Despite the verbage, her expression turns more serious. She is familiar with feeling unsafe at the hands of Rocket and doesn't want anyone else to experience it - Rocket, DRK, it didn't matter. "I've got my heavy hitters with me."

Sinistea clinked behind her as they headed into area zero. "Even got Snorlax to learn to mega-evolve. Been making good on that promise to beat you whenever I challenge you." She tried to balance levity with seriousness while she pondered Greyson's evolution. He seemed as solid as ever, but the foundation wasn't his ideals about teamwork or anything she knew. This was more drastic and life-or-death than their previous missions.

Research Station Bravo was surrounded with a suspicious silence. Robin felt a tinge of paranoia crawl up her spine. "Usually, the chasm is louder than this." She had had her fair share of trips already. The chaos had been familiar. This, though... the inactivity felt foreboding. "I feel like something's gonna jump out at us." Sinistea chimed pleasantly by her side to comfort her.

Robin didn't want to bring a whole pokemon team out in the chasm because additional ruckus could cause a seismic episode. Things would be fine, she told herself. "Station looks OK, at least." No alarms were sounding off, so at least the equipment was undisturbed.
