Nabi's performance in the VCT was lackluster. It didn't come off as unexpected to her, but it she hadn't realized how badly she sucked at this battle thing. Looking back at her life, much of her days was spent honing her skills as a ninja. She was best suited for stealth, sneak missions, and the occasional hand-to-hand combat. Pokemon battles were a whole other beast for her to tame.[break][break]

Since coming to Lilycove for the Vital City Tournament, she had begun to run low on cash. That meant one thing - it was time to put her skills to good use.[break][break]

She stood at the sidelines, sunglasses obstructing her face, watching for the unsuspecting victim. Sat by her was her cyclizar, Minerva, ready to pump things into gear at Nabi's signal.[break][break]

A female caught Nabi's attention, her demeanor low and inviting to the thief. With a click of her tongue, Minerva was up. Nabi propped herself on the cyclizar and took hold of the handle bars attached via the saddle. She whispered, "Three, two, one...!"[break][break]

Minerva pushed forward, carrying them toward CALLISTA MOON with well-timed speed. At just the perfect moment, right as they were in reach, Nabi seamlessly extended her arm out, snatched the churro out of CALLISTA MOON's hand, and zoomed onward.[break][break]

It would be her first meal of the day.

"I could be worse." The thought hadn't crossed Nabi's mind, but as she looked the woman over, she realized that she was right. Appearances didn't matter. Nabi's perception of the casino's boss was already skewed with how she dressed herself in fashionable, wispy attire, and even her tone of voice came more gentle. Perhaps it was all just an act though. Nabi wasn't ready to put her guard down yet.[break][break]

Without hesitation, Nabi replied as cooly as she could. "Nabi. Nabi Park." Her fingers twitched, finally wearing off from the paralysis. She considered whether she should escape the moment her body was completely free. It was hard to grasp what this woman was trying to accomplish.[break][break]

Nabi knew little about mawile, but it was clear to her that it was both a cute and dangerous pokemon. She appreciated that in a pokemon.[break][break]

"Try to keep your distance," she warned Bruno before the start of the match. "That extra mouth is going to be a handful."[break][break]

At the sign of the battle starting, Nabi quickly rolled out her first order. "MUD SHOT, Bruno!"[break][break]

From the swampert's mouth, goopy mud bulleted out. It traced along the ground, leaving slabs of wet dirt across the field, before straightening its aim to land a hit on the opposing mawile.[break][break]

Nabi took Ollie's hand into hers and gave it a good squeeze. "Whatever you want," she replied smoothly. "You seem like a nice guy." In other words, she didn't think he would ask her of anything outrageous.[break][break]

With introductions over, Nabi made way to her side of the field. Truthfully, she was skeptical about winning. She recalled the man before her holding a reputable position in power, someone that wasn't exactly a newbie to pokemon battles. She, on the other hand, was proving over and over againt in this tournament that she still had a lot to learn. Both her and Bruno.[break][break]

"Make it rain rocks, Bruno!" the pink-haired trainer began. Like a magic spell, rain began to descend from the skies, followed by a crack of thunder. The field grew wet.[break][break]

Joining the falling rain was a series of boulders initiated by the swampert's ROCK SLIDE. It was more like an avalanche of rocks than rain, really.

Nabi crossed her arms as the match unfolded, realizing then she never actually told him her name.[break][break]

The METAL SOUND was more bothersome than anything else, like an annoying itch that couldn't be reached. It may not have physically hurt the swampert as an actual attack would have, but it was successful in lowering Bruno's defensive capabilities, little to the swampert's realization.[break][break]

Nabi did know though and suspected her opponent would fire off with an attack next. They had to be ready.[break][break]

"Surround it with a ROCK SLIDE!" Nabi told Bruno.[break][break]

As commanded, Bruno began to lift and throw rocks towards the klefki, specifically aiming to enclose it in a ring.[break][break]

The bewear, though mighty for its size, sped straight into Bruno's chest with the full-force of the SUPERPOWER. The swampert staggered back on his feet several steps, arms flailing at his sides to try and save his balance. He came to a stop, the muscles at his back tensing, flexing. He looked like he was about to fall, but with a heave of his head, he swung forward and resumed a stance.[break][break]

In that moment, things were looking up for Nabi and her swampert, but that wasn't reason enough for them to let their guards down. Just as Biscotti gave the order for an ACROBATICS, Nabi instructed her swampert to "Move!"[break][break]

Bruno kept his eyes on the incineroar as she swerved in for the flying-type attack. With powerful feet, Bruno pushed himself off the ground and out of the way of the cat's ACROBATICS. Nabi was already yelling out the next attack.[break][break]

"HY-DRO PUMP!" she sang, her energy following through with the momentum of the battle. This was still anyone's game![break][break]

Like his trainer, Bruno fed off of the adrenaline. It was what kept him moving, and it was what urged him to deliver yet another HYDRO PUMP, this one aimed straight towards the ground to hit the incineroar at her feet and then follow through with the rest of her torso.[break][break]
