The poison was fast-acting and incredibly effective. From where she stood, Nabi felt helpless. Against the mega beedrill's combined speed and poison attacks, they were like sitting duckletts, simply delaying the inevitable.[break][break]

Nabi breathed in, puffing her chest out, and yelled to her swampert, loudly, "Don't give up! MUDDY WATER, let's go!"[break][break]

Perhaps the tides could turn with this one. Perhaps he could salvage a win, even with poison burning through his veins and his vision growing blurry. Trying his damndest, Bruno emitted a visceral roar and sent literal waves in the direction of Queen Zing. He tried to vary the MUDDY WATER, creating waves bigger and bigger in size to overpower the beedrill.[break][break]

The PAYBACK attack was fitting in name. Bruno proudly took it head-on, wanting to prove his own physical prowess against the bewear. Nabi made sure to curbstomp that thinking. "Get a PROTECT up!" she ordered.[break][break]

Bruno frowned but obeyed. He covered his body with an orb for protection, mitigating the PAYBACK.[break][break]

"MUD SHOT," she quickly followed with.[break][break]

ONce the PROTECT was down, Bruno released a hearty helping of the MUD SHOT at the bewear, as well as in the vicinity of it. Mud would stick to the ground, wet and sloppy.[break][break]

At the sight of the mega-evolution in process, Nabi readied herself. It was, frankly, a bit of a miracle their previous attack had even managed to hit. The pressure was on them, and now that they were facing a mega-evolved pokemon, the chances of them winning had decreased even more.[break][break]

Nabi pinched her thigh, internally telling herself to stop being so pessimistic. "No," she then corrected her inner thoughts. "It's not pessimism. It's reality... this is reality, Nabi. You're not strong enough."[break][break]

Bruno charged toward the mega beedrill with little to no plan. He was clearly aggravated, making it hard for Nabi to control him. Nevertheless, she tried, and yelled out "PROTECT yourself, dummy!"[break][break]

It was uncertain if Bruno listened to his trainer or if he had just happened to shield himself with a PROTECT in the final moment of Queen Zing closing in. The shield held itself against the FELL STINGER, but it wasn't an all-powerful defense mechanism. The math worked itself out. The mega beedril overpowered him.[break][break]

His PROTECT broke. The swampert skidded on his back from the force, but at least he was able to soften the blow.[break][break]

Before he even got back on his feet, Bruno initiated a ROCK SLIDE to aim for the bug's weakness.[break][break]

The corners of Nabi's lips curved upward. "Shit," she whispered as she saw the shaymin's whole body light up.[break][break]

They both knew they couldn't play on the defensive if they still wanted a chance of winning. Nabi gave perhaps her final command for the battle, ready to risk it all.[break][break]

While the shaymin powered up for the SOLAR BEAM, Bruno powered up another HYDRO PUMP. The clash of energy and water collided with great force, forcing the winds to rush out around them. An explosion surfaced, leaving Nabi in anticipation to see who would come out victorious from the challenge.[break][break]

The FAIRY WIND, though simple, chilled the air and made Bruno's skin tingle like needles plucking away at him. He shook it off quickly.[break][break]

Nabi gave the next order--MUDDY WATER. All around him, water piled up seemingly out of no where and moved in strong currents. Bruno directed the waves towards the klefki from a distance.[break][break]

"Ready a HYDRO PUMP," Nabi told the swampert as the incineroar made its way across the field with barred arms. Bruno grunted lowly and began to build the water up at the back of his throat.[break][break]

The CROSS CHOP smacked against his chest, each arm dealing its damage with an unrelenting force. However, Bruno kept his stance, trying his best to focus his energy into the next attack. Even if the incineroar wasn't weak to his water moves anymore, it could still pack a punch. And right now, Bruno needed to make a comeback if he wanted a chance to win still.[break][break]

Before she could retreat, Bruno leaned forward with his head to unleash the HYDRO PUMP.[break][break]

When the smoke cleared, there he was, Bruno, on the ground and defeated. Nabi held back her sigh.[break][break]

In a flash of light, her swampert was back inside the safety of his pokeball. Her next stop would be at a Pokemon Center, tending to his wounds. She met with Josh at the center, taking his hand into hers.[break][break]

"I guess gym leaders are the real thing," she commented. She tried to shrug off the defeat, give herself mercy that she had just faced off an incredible opponent. Perhaps with his luck, she could win her next fight.

Nabi had eyed for her escape, ready to bolt through the doors and take hiding in some alleyway. But before she could make her dash, a electric-induced attack sent her into a paralyzed state.[break][break]

She imagined the worst would happen--they'd send her to prison, charge her for all the damages. Or what if the owner of this fancy casino wanted her to make up the costs through... alternative methods? If her body could move, it would have shuddered at the though.[break][break]

Seeing a young woman at the head of it all came as a shock to Nabi. She was thin, beautiful. Her mere presence echoed a sense of unbattered confidence.[break][break]

Nabi moved her bottom lip. Her feelings were slowly returning, at least enough to speak. "He deserved it," she replied, in that moment, deciding whether or not she should be careful with her words. "I'm sure I did plenty of other women a favor." She was pleased to hear he wasn't in a condition to return to the television, yet worried that would only increase her sentence.[break][break]

"Frankly," Nabi then began, "I thought you would be one of them, too. Some old, greasy, vile man without manners."

His remark was equally unkind, however, correct. Nabi did not care whether she was in the right or wrong though. "If you haven't noticed," she spoke back to him with the same annoying tone, "there are a bunch of hooligan wingulls causing a mess here." She gestured around with her arms. Others had become victim to the wingulls' hungry desires.[break][break]

"This is a crisis! They have to be stopped! How can you just stand there and--" Something hit the top of her head and caused her to halt her words. It wasn't just somemthing though, and it hadn't just hit her head. It made a plopping sound, and it was evident to Nabi the moment it touched her head to what it was.[break][break]

Numerous flying wingull in the sky could only mean one thing.[break][break]

Nabi let out a terrible scream. She screamed again. "Ew! Ew! Ew! Ew!" she cried, afraid to touch the mess atop her head but also not wanting to leave it there. "Eeewww!" She grabbed for the first thing nearby to wipe the mess off her head, and of course, it couldn't be her own clothes. Instead, she grabbed for a fistful of the fellow pink-headed man's shirt and dipped her head forward to wipe at it.[break][break]

Fortunately for Nabi, what she thought was excrements was really just a splash of custard that had squeezed out of a donut a wingull had in their beak.

She thought it was a great plan. If it had worked... well, who knows? But it hadn't. Now they had to prepare for an oncoming z-move. That wasn't something Nabi had experience dealing with ever.[break][break]

She gulped. So did Bruno. Water washed back and forth around him, now putting the swampert at a great disadvantage.[break][break]

A clear, shining ball enveloped Bruno. But the PROTECT wouldn't be enough. With what little time he had left, the swampert also surrounded himself with another ROCK SLIDE to act as an added wall of defense. He could do nothing else against the powers of the z-move.[break][break]

Debris and smoke pillowed out, blocking Nabi's vision of the battlefield. She waited for it to clear to see the results of Bruno's strategy...[break][break]
